  • There is a great demand to manipulate biological cell autonomously since biologist should spend much time to obtain skillful manipulation techniques. For this purpose, we propose a cell chip to control, carry, fix and locate the cell. In this paper, we focus on the cell rotator to rotate individual biological cell based on a micro fluidics technology. The cell rotator consists of injection hole and rotation well to rotate a biological cell properly. Under the variation of flow rate in injection hole, the angular velocity of a biological cell is evaluated to find the feasibility of the proposed rotation method. As a practical experiment, Zebrafish egg is employed. Based on this research, we find the possibility of non-contact rotation way that can highly reduce the damage of the biological cell during manipulation. To realize an autonomous biological cell manipulation, a cell chip with manipulation well and micro channel in this research will be utilized effectively in near future.

  • Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is an attractive candidate for residential power generator due to fast start-up and stop, high efficiency, low emission, and high power density. In this study, we employ short module stack to understand the performance of the unit cell of the stack in terms of operating temperatures. To simulate the practical fuel cell stack of residential power generator, the structure and active area of the short module stack is kept the same as that of the practical fuel cell. The results shows that the electric potential of short module stack is different from the number of cells times the potential of unit cell because of cell-to-cell variation.

  • Osteoblast-like cell morphology, proliferation, and differentiation were examined in variation with biomaterials. Cells were cultured on TiO$_2$, Ti, 3Y-TZP, HA (Hydroxyapatite) and Thermanox was used as a control specimen. Generally, all specimens have similar cell morphology within the same time interval. However, cells on HA seem to be more thicker than those on TiO$_2$, Ti, 3Y-TZP and cell overlapping was detected very frequently on HA. In case of cell proliferation and differentiation, bioactive material such as HA could help osteoblast-like cell proliferate and provoke a sharp increase of ALP. On the other hand, whether the substrate material is a bioinert ceramics or metal, it does not so strongly affect the cell attachment, proliferation. and differentiation.

  • Solar cell converts light energy to electric energy. But a solar cell generates low power, PV module is fabricated by connected in series with dozens of solar cell. Owing to solar cell connected in series, power of PV module is influenced by shading or mismatch power of solar cells. To prevent power loss of PV module by shading or mismatch current, Bypass diodes are installed in PV module. Bypass diode operating reverse voltage by shading or mismatch power of solar cells bypass mismatch current. However, bypass diode in module exposed outdoor is easily damaged by surge voltage. In this paper, we confirm characteristics variation of PV module with damaged bypass diode. As a result, power of PV module with damaged bypass diode is reduced and Temperature of that is increased.

  • The variation of microorganisms (activated slude, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Aureobasidium pullulans) caused by the biosorption of $Pb^{2+}$ was observed by TEM and microscope. By the TEM observation of S. cerevisiae, the plasmolysis and lysis of cell wall or cell membrane were occurred by the penetration of $Pb^{2+}$ into the inner cellular region. However, in the case of A. pullulans, the plasmolysis and lysis of cell wall or cell membrane were not occurred because of the prevention of $Pb^{2+}$ penetration by the extracelluar polymeric substances (EPS). A flocculation of microorganisms, in the case of A. pullulans, was observed by the $Pb^{2+}$ accumulation after 3~4 h and the color was changed from white to black after 1 day. The flocculation of activated sludge was improved by the accumulation $Pb^{2+}$ after 1 h, however, the floc was broken up and the settling efficiency decreased after 1 day.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis of hydrogen recycle system has been conducted in order to enhance the efficiency of automotive fuel cell. Generally, the excess hydrogen is provided in the automotive fuel cell. Since the non-reaction hydrogen reduces automotive fuel cell efficiency, reuse of the non-reaction hydrogen can be helpful to improve the fuel cell performance. In case of PEM FC, the water vapor is provided to hydrogen from the cathode so that the mixture experiences phase change depending on the changes of pressure and temperature. The internal flow of the mixture in the hydrogen recirculation system of fuel cell was investigated for real flow conditions. The variation of performance, properties and mass fractions of mixture, hydrogen and water-vapor were investigated. This study was performed based on 80KW level automotive fuel cell's recycling system.

  • The intracellular free radicals produced at different stages of cell cycle of Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 24858 were investigated by means of electron spin resonance(ESR) spectroscopy. The synchronized cells by repeated starvation and refeeding revealed different ESR spectral pattern compared to that of asynchronized cells. Each spectrum centered at g=2.005, which indicates free radicals. The relative spin concentration was maximat at the end of DNA increase. The variation of the relative spin concentration at each distinct stage of the cell cycle was evaluated in relation to ascorbate concentration, L-galactonolactone oxidase activity, and ascorbate oxidase activity. The highest activities of L-galactonolactone oxidase and ascorbate oxidase were detected just before and at the maximum of relative spin concentration, respectively. And ascorbate concentration fluctuated through each stage of cell cycle with the changes of relative spin concentration, L-galactonolactone oxidase activity, and ascorbate oxidase activity. Thus it is suggested that intracellular free radicals should be related to cell cycle, interacted with ascorbate, and may play an important role in the cell cycle of Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

  • In this paper, we consider the leaky bucket parameter dimensioning problem in the presence of the cell delay variation(CDV) which arises at the customer premises network dud to the multiplexing with other traffic streams. We consider an ATM multiplexer in which a single CBR stream and several heterogeneous VBR traffic streams are multiplexed. Choosing an MMPP model for the bursty traffic streams, we derive an (MMPP+DD)/D/1/K queueing model for the evaluation of the CDV experienced by the CBR stream. We first evaluate the equilibrium queue length distribution embedded at tagged-cell arrival-time instants, based on whcih we calcuate the inter-cell time distribution and the distribution kof the number of tagged-cell departures in an arbitrary interval. Then we apply the analysis to the dimensionging problem of the leaky bucket parameters, examining how the employed traffic model affects the determination of the bucket size. Through numerical examples, we confirm that the Poisson traffic model can underestimate the bucket size, thus causing a considerable blocking probability for compliant use cells while the MMPP model can optimally design the bucket size which keeps the blocking probability under the target value.

  • This study focused on the performance characteristics of solar cell using the impedance technique. We measured an impedance according to frequency from 1 Hz until 1 MHz. It could know that the impedance was decreased according to the frequency increases in solar cell. The impedance of single crystal solar cell was 0.61 ${\Omega}$ at 1 Hz, and kept almost settled value to $1{\times}10^2$ Hz. However, the impedance of polycrystal solar cell was $7{\times}10^3{\Omega}$ at 1 Hz.
