  • Present study aimed to investigate morphological change and gene expression in the gill of Cyprinus carpio after exposure against muddy water caused by riverbed disturbance with various rearing condition. The gill of C. carpio showed abnormal shapes in its secondary lamellae and a rough surface with impure debris after exposed to muddy water for 80 days. In addition, the gills showed the edema, the exfoliation of epithelial cell, and the fusion of the secondary lamellae. Using 20 ACPs, 24 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) exposed to muddy water for 80 days were identified. 17 genes among them were up-regulated, while 7 genes were down-regulated in preterm deliveries. A BLAST searches revealed that 3 genes were revealed known genes as calcium transporter 1 (TRPV6) mRNA, macha mRNA for putative puroindoline b protein, and Efnb3 protein-like. Therefore, it is considered that Efnb3 gene from gill would be a useful indicator for neurobehavioral changes in fish influenced by muddy water.

  • Identification of fusion gene is of prominent importance in cancer research field because of their potential as carcinogenic drivers. RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) data have been the most useful source for identification of fusion transcripts. Although a number of algorithms have been developed thus far, most programs produce too many false-positives, thus making experimental confirmation almost impossible. We still lack a reliable program that achieves high precision with reasonable recall rate. Here, we present FusionScan, a highly optimized tool for predicting fusion transcripts from RNA-Seq data. We specifically search for split reads composed of intact exons at the fusion boundaries. Using 269 known fusion cases as the reference, we have implemented various mapping and filtering strategies to remove false-positives without discarding genuine fusions. In the performance test using three cell line datasets with validated fusion cases (NCI-H660, K562, and MCF-7), FusionScan outperformed other existing programs by a considerable margin, achieving the precision and recall rates of 60% and 79%, respectively. Simulation test also demonstrated that FusionScan recovered most of true positives without producing an overwhelming number of false-positives regardless of sequencing depth and read length. The computation time was comparable to other leading tools. We also provide several curative means to help users investigate the details of fusion candidates easily. We believe that FusionScan would be a reliable, efficient and convenient program for detecting fusion transcripts that meet the requirements in the clinical and experimental community. • The millimeter wave that uses the spectrum in the 30GHz~300GHz band has a shorter wavelength due to its high carrier frequency, so it is suitable for Massive MIMO systems because more antennas can be equipped in the base station. However, since an RF chain is required per antenna, hardware cost and power consumption increase as the number of antennas increases. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate antenna selection schemes to solve this problem. In order to solve the problem of high computational complexity in the exhaustive search based antenna selection scheme, we propose a approach of applying deep learning technology. An best antenna combination is predicted using a DNN model capable of classifying multi-classes. By simulation tests, we compare and evaluate the existing antenna selection schemes and the proposed deep learning-based antenna selection scheme.

  • Background: It remains uncertain if $interferon-{\gamma}$ release assays (IGRAs) are superior to the tuberculin skin test (TST) for the diagnosis of active tuberculosis (TB) or latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in immunosuppressed populations including people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the performance of IGRAs and the TST in people with HIV with active TB or LTBI in low and high prevalence TB countries. Methods: We searched the MEDLINE database from 1966 through to January 2017 for studies that compared results of the TST with either the commercial QuantiFERON-TB Gold in Tube (QFTGT) assay or previous assay versions, the T-SPOT.TB assay or in-house IGRAs. Data were summarized by TB prevalence. Tests for concordance and differences in proportions were undertaken as appropriate. The variation in study methodology was appraised. Results: Thirty-two studies including 4,856 HIV subjects met the search criteria. Fourteen studies compared the tests in subjects with LTBI in low TB prevalence settings. The QFTGT had a similar rate of reactivity to the TST, although the first-generation version of that assay was reactive more commonly. IGRAs were more frequently positive than the TST in HIV infected subjects with active TB. There was considerable study methodology and population heterogeneity, and generally low concordance between tests. Both the TST and IGRAs were affected by CD4 T-cell immunodeficiency. Conclusion: Our review of comparative data does not provide robust evidence to support the assertion that the IGRAs are superior to the TST when used in HIV infected subjects to diagnose either active TB or LTBI.

  • The Japanese developed the first Car navigation system in 1981 with the advent of Honda, which was known as the car inertial navigation system. Now days, It is possible to search the shortest route to and from places and arrival time using the internet via cell phone to the driver based on GIS and GPS. However, even with a good navigation system, it losses the shortest route when there is an average speed of the vehicle being between S-15 kilometers. Therefore, in order to improve the vehicle waiting time and average vehicle speed, we are suggesting an optimal green time algorithm using fuzzy adaptive control, where there are different traffic intersection lengths, and lanes. In this paper, to be able to assist the driver and forecast the optimal traffic information with regards to the road conditions; dangerous roads, construction work and estimation of arrival time at their destination using internet.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient hardware architecture for H.264/AVC CAVLC (Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding) encoding. Previous CAVLC architectures search all of the coefficients to find statistic characteristics in a block. However, it is unnecessary information that zero coefficients following the last position of a non-zero coefficient when CAVLC encodes residual coefficients. In order to reduce this unnecessary operation, we propose two techniques, which detect the first and last position of non-zero coefficients and arrange non-zero coefficients sequentially. By adopting these two techniques, the required processing time was reduced about 23% compared with previous architecture. It was designed in a hardware description language and total logic gate count is 16.3k using 0.18um standard cell library Simulation results show that our design is capable of real-time processing for $1920{\times}1088\;30fps$ videos at 81MHz.

  • Candida albicans, a polymorphic fungus, causes systemic and local infections. Recent reports show that the fungus is a main etiological agent for the arthritis. For trea tment, antifungal drugs and/or rheumatoid drugs are used, but resistance and side effects limit application of the drugs. In search of new sources for treatment of the fungal arthritis, we choose Egb 761 (extract of Ginkgo leaves 761), one of the most popular over-the-counter herbal medicines. The Egb 761 contains two major ingredients such as terpene and flavonoid. In the present study, we examined if the terpene portion of Egb 761 had anti-inflammatory activity against C.albicans-caused arthritis. The terpene was extracted with combination of methanol and water from the Egb 761, followed by gel-permeation chromatography. Presence of terpene was determined by the Salkowski colorimetric method and HPLC analysis. For an animal model of inflammation induction, mice were given an emulsion form of C.albicans cell wall mixed with Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA) by footpad-injection. Results showed that intraperitoneal administration of the water-soluble portion that contained terpene and flavonoid reduced the inflammation. Whereas the terpene had anti-inflammatory activity, flavonoid portion had no such activity, For determination of possible mechanism of the activity, the terpene seemed to be suppression of nitric oxide (NO) production from LPS-treated macrophages. Taken together the Ginkgo terpene may have anti-inflammatory effect against C.albicans-caused arthritis, possibly by blocking NO production.

  • Under the active search for biologically active novel agents for cancer prevention and treatment, some agents have been found from plants which are easily available. Our previous research on them revealed that C. annuum L. var. angulosum Mill have high antiproliferating effect on cancer cells. However, it has not been known whether the anticancer efficacy is different according to each part of C. annuum L. var. angulosum Mill or whether it can be changed by timing of harvest or solvent for extraction. Thus we compared the efficacy of each part of C. annuum L. var. angulosum Mill and assessed how much difference in the efficacy can be made according to the time of harvest or solvents for extraction. We observed the morphologic change and apoptosis 48 hr after treatment with the extract of each part of C. annuum L. var. angulosum Mill in MCF-7 mammary gland adenocarcinoma cells and human hepatoma cells. We also counted cancer cells by trypan blue method and MTT method to check the cytotoxicity. The leaf extract showed the highest anticancer effect among all the parts of C. annuum L. var. angulosum Mill; 50% and 70% reduction in the number of cancer cells was observed at 25 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mι and 50 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mι, respectively. It was more than 2 times as potent as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). We found chromosomal fragmentation, clumping, and destuction by PI staining, and DNA fragmentation by electrophoresis. In conclusion, this study suggests that leaf extraction using water as solvent has the highest antiproliferative and apoptotic activity in cancer cells compared with other parts of extraction.

  • Toxoplasma gondii is an intracellular Apicomplexan parasite and a causative agent of toxoplasmosis in human. It causes encephalitis, uveitis, chorioretinitis, and congenital infection. T. gondii invades the host cell by forming a moving junction (MJ) complex. This complex formation is initiated by intermolecular interactions between the two secretory parasitic proteins-namely, apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA1) and rhoptry neck protein 2 (RON2) and is critically essential for the host invasion process. By this study, we propose two potential leads, NSC95522 and NSC179676 that can efficiently target the AMA1 hydrophobic cleft, which is a hotspot for targeting MJ complex formation. The proposed leads are the result of an exhaustive conformational search-based virtual screen with multilevel precision scoring of the docking affinities. These two compounds surpassed all the precision levels of docking and also the stringent post docking and cumulative molecular dynamics evaluations. Moreover, the backbone flexibility of hotspot residues in the hydrophobic cleft, which has been previously reported to be essential for accommodative binding of RON2 to AMA1, was also highly perturbed by these compounds. Furthermore, binding free energy calculations of these two compounds also revealed a significant affinity to AMA1. Machine learning approaches also predicted these two compounds to possess more relevant activities. Hence, these two leads, NSC95522 and NSC179676, may prove to be potential inhibitors targeting AMA1-RON2 complex formation towards combating toxoplasmosis.
