  • In this study, we conducted verification of key influencing factors during cone penetration testing using the developed Mini Cone Penetration Tester (Mini-CPT), and compared the experimental results with empirical formulas to validate the equipment. The Mini-CPT was designed to measure cone penetration resistance through a Strain Gauge, and the resistance values were calibrated using a Load Cell. Moreover, the influencing factors were verified using a model ground constituted in a soil box. The primary influencing factors examined were the boundary effect of the soil box, the distance between cone penetration points, and the cone penetration speed. For the verification of these factors, the experiment was conducted with the model ground having a relative density of 63.76% in the soil box. It was observed that the sidewall effect was considerably significant, and the cone penetration resistance measured at subsequent penetration points was higher due to the influence between penetration points. However, within the speed range considered, the effect of penetration speed was almost negligible. The measured cone penetration resistance was compared with predicted values obtained from literature research, and the results were found to be similar. It is anticipated that using the developed Mini-CPT for constructing model grounds in the laboratory will lead to more accurate geotechnical property data.

  • This study qualitatively reviewed effect of the height of loading and the ratio of penetration on. the characteristics of deformation of cellular bulkhead by performing a model test of embedded steel plate cellular bulkhead which had different loading height and penetration ratio. And we also examined the effect of the loading height upon the shear behavior by performing two-dimensional model test making use of aluminum rods for a filler. Besides, test results and theoretical values based on Hansen's earth pressure theory were compared and reviewed. In consequence, it was ascertained that the yield moment of cells depended on the height of loading and the ratio of penetration, and the slip surface was located on the lower area of a cell interior according as the height of loading becomes lower. The theoretical consideration which was based on the theory of earth pressure proposed by Hansen revealed that the test results accorded with the theoretical values to some degree, and the same results were derived about the location change of the slip surface.

  • The epidermal growth factor (EGF) has a intrinsic function of inducing growth and proliferation of cells through interacting with cell membrane receptors in human epidermis and dermis layer. These functions of EGF are used as a main ingredient for wound healing medicines and anti-aging cosmetics. As a cosmetic ingredient, the EGF has a problem in exhibiting its natural efficacy due to the lack of the ability to penetrate through the stratum corneum, which is known as the skin barrier. In this study, a recombinant human epidermal growth factor ($MTD_{151}-EGF$) fused with the macromolecule transduction domain $(MTD)_{151}$ with the skin penetration ability was developed to improve the skin penetration efficiency of the EGF. Expression of $MTD_{151}-EGF$ was performed in E. coli transformed with a vector encoding the $MTD_{151}-EGF$ gene and then purified. The purified $MTD_{151}-EGF$ was evaluated using cell proliferation assay, cytotoxicity test and skin penetration test by franz diffusion cell assay and artificial skin. Cell proliferation activity of $MTD_{151}-EGF$ purified to high purity of 99% or above was equivalent to the EGF or better, and cytotoxicity was not observed. In addition, the $MTD_{151}-EGF$ showed an excellent penetration efficiency compared to the EGF in the skin penetration test with EGF and $MTD_{151}-EGF$ labeled by FITC in an artificial skin penetration model. Based on the quantitative analysis of the penetrating substance using franz diffusion cell assay, the amount of penetration was about 16 times more than that of EGF. These results can be regarded as an effective alternative to improve the existing physical transdermal penetration method related to the use of various active ingredients for cosmetics.

  • Gravure printing and manufacturing of advanced electronic components in a way that is going extra hold position. It is to print the electronic components of the rapid productivity improvements as well as cost-saving and environment-friendly industries such as the transition is a big advantage. However the mechanism of gravure is difficult to study scientifically because of high speed and excessively small size of the cell. To approach the mechanism we experimented using gravure printability. The condition of variables of IGT is pressure and velocity. By using Flow-3D simulation software, we built up the theoretical model under the constant variables. Then, we compared the real test with the simulation results. Therefore, it is studied the mechanism of gravure scientifically and it can be analysed the effect of the variable conditions.

  • The chief factors for the penetration and diffusion of chloride ions in concrete are water-cement ratio(w/c), aging, thickness of cover concrete, chloride ions concentration of given environment, wet and dry conditions and etc. In this study, effect of w/c and aging on the characteristics of chloride ions diffusion in concrete were researched when environmental factors for the penetration and diffusion of chloride ions were constant. For this purpose, the voltages passing through the diffusion cell were measured by using accelerated test method using potential difference, and then diffusion coefficients of chloride ions by using Andrade's method were estimated for 44%, 49.5% and 55% of w/c, respectively. As a result, correlation among diffusion coefficients of chloride ions, w/c and aging were concluded through multiple regression model.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the in vitro and in vivo moisturizing properties and percutaneous absorption of PEG-impregnated Aloe vera gel. The PEG-i-Aloe gel was obtained from dewatering and impregnation by soaking (DIS) of Aloe vera leaf slice. The moisturizing property of the obtained sample was evaluated by moisture determination using gravimetric method in desiccator under different RH% and by water sorption-desorption test on human skin. The transdermal penetration characteristics of PEG-i-Aloe gel was investigated by Franz diffusion cell in vitro transdermal absorption method. PEG-i-Aloe gel had high moisture retention ability and could significantly lead the enhancing skin hydration status as well as reducing the skin water loss due to the film formation as a skin barrier. The skin penetration rate of PEGi- Aloe gel at steady state was 9.76 ${\mu}g/(h{\cdot}cm^2)$ and the quantity of the transdermal absorption was 144 ${\mu}g/cm^2$ in 9 hr. The penetration mechanism was well fitted with Higuchi model ($R^2$ = 0.974-0.994). The results show that PEG-i-Aloe gel has the significant moisturizing effect and strong penetration of the animal skin. It could be used as the moisturizing additive in cosmetic skin products.

  • Model pile tests in calibration chamber are performed in order to study the two factors that the pile bearing capacity is significantly influenced by. Those factors are the critical depth concept and the scale effect caused by pile diameters. Firstly, the predicted values of end bearing capacity from the various static formulae were compared with the measured ones from model pile tests. Secondly, the critical depth concept and the scale effect were investigated by using two different soil conditions in a series of calibration chamber tests : the one is uniform sand : and the other is weathered granites overlayered by sand. Main results obtained from the model tests can be summarized as follows : (1) The end bearing capacity was increased with pile penetration depth up to penetration ratio of 7 to 8 when the cell pressure is high, and the critical depth was observed in the current chamber tests with uniform sand layer , (2) The predicted end bearing capacities were mostly lager than the measured, and it was found that the differences between the predicted and the measured values became smaller as the pile penetration ratio was increased : (3) The end bearing capacity of the small diameter pile in weathered granites layer was mostly less than that of the larger pile, while in uniform sand layer it was vice.

  • This study examined the effect of wall friction on deformation characteristics of the cellular bulkhead, in terms of artificial wall friction based on the results of model tests according to the existing penetration ratio and loading height. 1. The effect of wall friction on deformation characteristics of the cellular bulkhead turned out to be less as the loading height decreases and the penetration ratio increases. The yield load also becomes less as wall friction decreases. 2. The ratio of the rotational displacement to the horizontal displacement of the cellular bulkhead becomes less as the loading height decreases and the penetration ratio increases. Hence it is concluded that the effect of wall friction has close relationship with the rotational displacement.
