  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a cell phone addiction scale for Korean parents of young children, and to evaluate the reliability and validity of the developed scale. Methods: The scale was developed through construction of a conceptual framework, generation of initial items, verification of content validity, selection of secondary items, preliminary study, and extraction of final items. Participants were 465 parents and 178 children. Data were analyzed using item analysis, factor analysis, criterion related validity, internal consistency, and split-half reliability. Results: Twenty items were categorized into three factors explaining 60.3% of total variance. Factors were named as withdrawal - 4 items, loss of control - 9 items, and persistence - 7 items. Scores for the scale were significantly correlated with self-control, impulsiveness, cell phone use, and cell phone addiction of children as measured by a scale for Korean children. Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the 20 items was .94, and Guttman coefficient was .87. Scale scores identified children as high risk users, at risk users, or average users by standard scores. Conclusion: The results suggest that the cell phone addiction scale for Korean parents is a reliable and valid instrument to measure cell phone addiction in young children.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to find the factors influencing adolescents' adult media engagement. The study is based on Agnew's General Strain Theory (GST) and a micro-systemic perspective. Methods: The study examined 479 middle school freshmen who participated in the fourth wave of the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) conducted by National Youth Policy Institute. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and reliability analysis using SPSS 22.0 Ver. Also, hypothesis testing was performed via covariance-based structure equation modeling (CB-SEM) using Amos 21.0 Ver. Results: Strain factors had positive effects on adolescent depression, and depression had a positive effect on adult media engagement. Also, cell-phone dependency had a positive mediation effect between depression and adult media engagement. Conclusion: The study's result identified the factors affecting adult media engagement. Therefore, we suggest intervention programs considering adolescents' strains, depression and cell-phone dependency to improve their health.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of depression, stress, and self-efficacy on the addiction to cell phone use among university students. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires from 563 students and analyzed by applying descriptive statistics, t-test, ${\chi}^2$ test, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 16.0. Results: The proportion of depressed subjects was 52.6%. The addictive group scored higher than the non-addictive group in depression rate and stress, but scored lower in self-efficacy. Out of the subjects, 32.9% were found to be addictive users, 31.3% at potential risk, and 1.6% at high risk. Significant variables influencing addictive users were stress, self-efficacy, and the user's general characteristics including monthly spending money, sex, the hours of daily use, and the main method of use. Conclusion: It is concluded that such variables leading university students to the addiction of cell phone use.

  • Information Culture Index (ICI) is the quantitative value that represents people's information literacy levels. Also, it diagnoses the people's knowledge, ethics, emotion, and practice synthetically. As the Internet and cell phone addiction have been increasing when people access information on the web recently, it is necessary to analyze the meaning of the ICI from the Internet and cell phone addiction perspectives and to confirm if it goes well in the right direction. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the people who have high ICIs. At the same time, we perform the statistical analysis combining ICIs with the Internet and the cell-phone addiction levels. In particular, the meaning of the Information Practicing factor, which is one of the ICI factors, is examined. By doing these, we confirm if the current ICI works correctly or not, and propose a better way for measuring ICIs. In order to do these, we survey and analyze data with basic statistical methods and structural equation model.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between cell phone dependency and aggression in elementary school students with the mediating effect of leisure activities in South Korea. Methods: Data were cross-sectional in study design with 1,555 fourth grade elementary school students participating in the 4th-year Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS/WIN 23.0 and AMOS 21.0 program. Results: Cell phone dependency has a significant effect on aggression, but it did not act as a control variable in the relationship between the protective factor, weekly book reading time and the amount of daytime play with aggression. Weekly entertainment time and weekly TV and video viewing time had a significant statistical effect on aggression, thus this study confirmed that cell phone dependency acts as a control variable in relation to aggression. Conclusion: As the entertainment time for elementary school students, the time spent watching TV and videos play a negative role, it is necessary to prepare a leisure activity management practice and strategies with an emphasis on entertainment time as well as, TV and video viewing as elementary school students' leisure activities for a healthy school life.

  • Mobility management is important in mobile cellular networks. In this study, we considered an enhanced location-based registration (ELR) method. In the ELR method, even when a mobile phone enters a cell to find that the cell is already on its list (of visited cells) and then updates its main counter, it does not remove any cells from the list (memory space permitting), which gives better performance than the location-based registration (LR) method. However, the location registration cost of the ELR method is still high, and there is a lot of room for improvement with regards to this matter. We now propose an improved version of the ELR method; namely, the improved ELR (iELR). In the iELR method, when a mobile phone enters a cell to find that the cell counter value is less than the main counter value, or when a mobile phone enters a cell to register its location, it updates the main counter and the cell counter values as much as possible to reduce the future need for registrations. We show that our proposed iELR method provides better performance than the ELR method.

  • In ubiquitous computing environments that can be connected to the networks any time any where, wearable computer should be able to offer a variety service. The necessity of a variety service using wearable computer becomes more important. In this paper, we can not only provide services over interaction of wearable computer devices, but also propose the method of the better service over interaction of the cell phone.

  • According to public and industrial interests on mobile graphics, a preliminary implementation regarding 3D feature visualization system on cell phone was performed using M3G API, one of the de-facto standards for mobile 3D graphic API. Through this experiment, it is revealed that scene graph structure and 3D mobile file format supported from this API is useful one for 3D geo-modeling and rendering in mobile environment. It is necessary that 3D mobile graphic standards can be considered as one component of current mobile GIS services standards to provide value-added 3D GIS contents.
