  • The characterizations of zinc oxide (ZnO) buffer layers grown by unbalanced magnetron (UBM) sputtering under various substrate temperatures for inverted organic solar cells (IOSCs) were investigated. UBM sputter grown ZnO films exhibited higher crystallinity with increasing the substrate temperature, resulting in uniform and large grain size. Also, the electrical properties of ZnO films are improved with increasing substrate temperature. In the results, the performance of IOSCs critically depended on the substrate temperature during the film growth because the crystalllinity of the ZnO film affect the carrier mobility of the ZnO film.

  • We investigated the properties of vanadium oxide (VOx) buffer layers deposited by a dual RF magnetron sputtering method under various target powers for inverted organic solar cells (IOSCs). Sputter fabricatged VOx thin films exhibited higher crystallinity with the increase of target power, resulting in a uniform and large grain size. The electrical properties of VOx films are improved with the increase of target power because of the increase of V content. In the results, the performance of IOSCs critically depended on the target power during the film growth because the crystalllinity of the VOx film affects the carrier mobility of the VOx film.

  • In multi-level-cell based storage devices, TLC NAND has been employed solid state drive due to cost effectiveness. Since TLC has slow performance and low endurance compared with MLC, TLC based storage has adopted SLC buffer scheme to improve performance. To improve SLC buffer scheme, this paper proposes page overwriting method in SLC block. This method provides data updates without erase operation within a limited number. When SLC buffer area is filled up, FTL should execute copying valid pages and erasing it. The proposed method reduces erase counts by 50% or more compared with previous SLC buffer scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed SLC buffer overwrite method achieves 2 times write performance improvement.

  • This study was designed to determine the effect of electric field strength, duration and fusion buffer in fusion parameters on the rate of membrane fusion between the somatic cell and cytoplast for Korean cattle (HanWoo) somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) procedure. Following electrofusion, effect of 5 or $10\;{\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$-ionophore of activation treatment on subsequent development was also evaluated. Cell fusion rates were significantly increased from 23.1% at 20 V/mm to 59.7% at 26 V/mm and 52.9% at 27 V/mm (p<0.05). Due to higher cytoplasmic membrane rupture or cellular lysis, overall efficiency was decreased when the strength was increased to 30 V/mm (18.5%) and 40 V/mm (6.3%) and the fusion rate was also decreased when the strength was at 25 V/mm or below. The optimal duration of electric stimulation was significantly higher in $25\;{\mu}s$ than 20 and $30\;{\mu}s$ (18.5% versus 9.3% and 6.3%, respectively, p<0.05). Two nonelectrolyte fusion buffers, Zimmermann's (0.28 M sucrose) and 0.28 M mannitol solution for cell fusion, were used for donor cell and ooplast fusion and the fusion rate was significantly higher in Zimmermann's cell fusion buffer than in 0.28 M mannitol (91.1% versus 48.4%, respectively, p<0.05). The cleavage and blastocyst formation rates of SCNT bovine embryos activated by $5\;{\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$-ionophore was significantly higher than the rates of the embryos activated with $10\;{\mu}M$ of $Ca^{2+}$-ionophore (70.0% versus 42.9% and 22.5% versus 14.3%, respectively; p<0.05). This result is the reverse to that of parthenotes which shows significantly higher cleavage and blastocyst rates in $10\;{\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$-ionophore than $5\;{\mu}M$ counterpart (65.6% versus 40.3% and 19.5% versus 9.7%, respectively; p<0.05). In conclusion, SCNT couplet fusion by single pulse of 26 V/mm for $25\;{\mu}s$ in Zimmermann's fusion buffer followed by artificial activation with $5\;{\mu}M$ $Ca^{2+}$-ionophore are suggested as optimal fusion and activation methods in Korean cattle SCNT protocol.

  • An input and output buffering ATM switch conventionally operates in either Queueloss mode or Backpressure mode. Recently, a new mode, which is called Hybrid mode, was proposed to overcome the drawbacks of Queueloss mode and Backpressure mode. In Hybrid mode, when both the destined output buffer and the originfted input buffer are full, a cell is dropped. This thesis analyzes the cell loss rate and the cell delay of Queueloss, Backpressure and Hybrid modes in a switch adopting output-port expansion scheme under uniform traffic. Output-port expansion scheme allows only one cell from an input buffer to be switched during one time slot. If several cells switch to a same destined output port, the number of maximum transfer cells is restricted to K (Output-port expansion ratio). The simulation results show that if an offered load is less than 0.9, Hybrid mode has lower cell loss rate than the other modes; otherwise, Queueloss mode illustrates the lowest cell loss rate, which is a different result from previous researches. However, the difference between Hybrid and Queueloss modes is comparably small. As expected, the average cell delay in Backpressure mode is lower than those of Queueloss mode and Hybrid mode, since the cell delay due to the retransmission of higher number of dropped cells in Backpressure mode is not considered.

  • An ATM switch is the basic component of an ATM network, and its functioning is to switch incoming cells arriving at an input port to the output port associated with an appropriate virtual path. In case of an ATM switch with buffer sharing scheme, the performance analysis is very difficult due to the interactions between the address queues. In this paper, the influences of the degree of traffic burstiness and some traffic routing properties are investigated by using the simulation. Also, some cell access strategies including priority access and cell dropping are compared in terms of cell loss probability.

  • The Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) thin film solar cells have been achieved until almost 20% efficiency by NREL. These solar cells include chemically deposited CdS as buffer layer between CIGS absorber layer and ZnO window layer. Although CIGS solar cells with CdS buffer layer show excellent performance, the short wavelength response of CIGS solar cell is limited by narrow CdS band gap of about 2.42 eV. Taking into consideration the environmental aspect, the toxic Cd element should be replaced by a different material. Among Cd-free candidate materials, the CIGS thin film solar cells with ZnS buffer layer seem to be promising with 17.2%(module by showa shell K.K.), 18.6%(small area by NREL). However, ZnS/CIGS solar cells still show lower performance than CdS/CIGS solar cells. There are several reported reasons to reduce the efficiency of ZnS/CIGS solar cells. Nakada reported ZnS thin film had many defects such as stacking faults, pin-holes, so that crytallinity of ZnS thin film is poor, compared to CdS thin film. Additionally, it was known that the hetero-interface between ZnS and CIGS layer made unfavorable band alignment. The unfavorable band alignment hinders electron transport at the heteo-interface. In this study, we focused on growing defect-free ZnS thin film and for favorable band alignment of ZnS/CIGS, bandgap of ZnS and CIGS, valece band structure of ZnS/CIGS were modified. Finally, we verified the photovoltaic properties of ZnS/CIGS solar cells.

  • The ATM Forum recently introduced the Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) service category GFR service has been designed to support classical best effort traffic such as TCP/IP based traffic. The GFR service not only guarantees a minimum throughput, but also supports fair distribution of available bandwidth to completing VCs. In this paper, we proposed a new buffer management algorithm based on leaky bucket to provide minimum cell rate guarantee and improve fairness. The proposed algorithm reduces complexity and processing overhead of leaky-bucket algorithm to implement easily.

  • Lichen-forming fungal proteins have been seldom searched due to many difficulties in their extraction. Phenols, quinones, proteases, and other components released during cell disruption have been known to be the greatest challenges related to protein extraction from lichens. To overcome these problems and maintain good electrophoretic resolution and high protein concentration, an extraction buffer containing polyvinylpolypyrrolidone, ascorbic acid, Triton X-100, polyethylene glycol, proteinase, and oxidase inhibitors in sodium phosphate buffer was developed. This extraction buffer showed high efficiency for all lichen species tested in the study.

  • In this paper, we study new HOL-LJ scheme to guarantee the QoW of low priority cell with simple hardware which is not realizable in previously proposed HOL and HOL-PJ. the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by analysing an equivalent /M/M/1/N queuing system. In case of using the proposed scheme, we confirmed that good performance compared with HOL-PJ through simpulation and mathematical analysis. We also applied HOL-LJ algorithm to convetional Dual Buffer and Partial Buffer, and we analyzed the performance through computer simulation.
