  • Polycrystalline CdSe thin films were grown on ceramic substrate using a chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. They were annealed at various temperature and X-ray diffraction patterns were measured by X-ray diffractometer in order to study CdSe polycrystal structure. Using extrapolation method of X-ray diffraction patterns for the CdSe samples annealed in $N_{2}$ gas at $450^{\circ}C$ it was found hexagonal structure whose lattice parameters $a_{o}$ and $c_{o}$ were $4.302{\AA}$ and $7.014{\AA}$, respectively. Its grain size was about $0.3{\mu}m$. Hall effect on this sample was measured by Van der Pauw method and studied on carrier density and mobility depending on temperature. From Hall data, the mobility was likely to be decreased by piezo electric scattering at temperature range of 33 K and 200 K, and by polar optical scattering at temperature range of 200 K and 293 K. We measured also spectral response, sensitivity (${\gamma}$), maximum allowable power dissipation and response time on these samples.

  • Protective efficacy of trivalent Salmonella inactivated vaccine containing Chlorhexidine-inactivated S. Enterltidis (SE), S. Typhimurium (ST), and S. Gallinarum (SG) strains, was evaluated in this study. A total of 70 brown nick layers were divided into 7 groups, A to G, containing 10 hens per group. All hens in groups B to D were intramuscularly immunized with approximately 7×108 cells (3×108 cells of SE+1×108 SE+1×108 cells of ST+3×108 cells of SG) of the trivalent vaccine in 0.5 mL of PBS. All chickens in groups E to G were injected with sterile PBS. All hens of groups B and E, groups C and F, and groups D and G were orally challenged with approximately 2 ×109 CFU of wild-type SE, ST, and SG, respectively. Serum IgG titers and CD3+CD4+ T-cells, and CD3+CD8+ T-cells levels of groups B to D significantly higher than those of group A. In addition, all animals in groups A to C, E and F showed no clinical symptoms and survived after the virulent challenges, whereas one chicken in group D died and all chickens in group G died following the challenge. The protection against wild-type SE and ST in liver, spleen, cecum, and cloaca of groups B and C chickens was significant effective as compared with those in groups E and F. These indicate that the trivalent inactivated vaccine can be an effective tool for prevention of Salmonella infections by inducing robustly protective immune responses and cellular immune response in chickens.

  • CdZnTeSe (CZTS) has attracted attention for applications in X- and gamma-ray detectors owing to its improved properties compared to those of CdZnTe (CZT). In this study, we grew and processed single crystals of CZT and CZTS using the Bridgeman method to confirm the feasibility of using a dosimeter for high-energy X-rays in radiotherapy. We evaluated their linearity and precision using the coefficient of determination (R2) and relative standard deviation (RSD). CZTS showed sufficient RSD values lower than 1.5% of the standard for X-ray dosimetry, whereas CZT's RSD values increased dramatically under some conditions. CZTS exhibited an R2 value of 0.9968 at 500 V/cm, whereas CZT has an R2 value of 0.9373 under the same conditions. The X-ray response of CZTS maintains its pulse shape at various dose rates, and its properties are improved by adding selenium to the CdTe matrix to lower the defect density and sub-grain boundaries. Thus, we validated that CZTS shows a better response than CZT to high-energy X-rays used for radiotherapy. Further, the applicability of an onboard imager, a high-energy X-ray (>6 MV) image, is presented. The proposed methodology and results can guide future advances in X-ray dose detection.

  • $CuGaSe_2$ (CGS) layers were grown by the hot wall epitaxy method. The optimum temperatures of the substrate and source for growth turned out to be 450 and $610^{\circ}C$, respectively. Based on the absorption measurement, the band-gap variation of CGS was well interpreted by the Varshni's equation. By analyzing these emissions, a band diagram of the observed optical transitions was obtained. From the solar cell measurement, an 11.17 % efficiency on the n-CdS/p-CGS junction was achieved.

  • In this study, we made a organic thin film device in MIS(Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor) structure by using PVP (Poly vinyl phenol) as a insulating layer, and CdSe/ZnS nano particles which have a core/shell structure inside. We dissolved PVP and PMF in PGMEA, organic solvent, then formed a thin film through a spin coating. After that, it was cross-linked by annealing for 1 hour in a vacuum oven at $185^{\circ}C$. We operated FTIR measurement to check this, and discovered the amount of absorption reduced in the wave-length region near 3400 cm-1, so could observe decrease of -OH. Boonton7200 was used to measure a C-V relationship to confirm a properties of the nano particles, and as a result, the width of the memory window increased when device including nano particles. Additionally, we used HP4145B in order to make sure the electrical characteristics of the organic thin film device and analyzed a conduction mechanism of the device by measuring I-V relationship. When the voltage was low, FNT occurred chiefly, but as the voltage increased, Schottky Emission occurred mainly. We synthesized CdSe/ZnS and to confirm this, took a picture of Si substrate including nano particles with SEM. Spherical quantum dots were properly made. Due to this study, we realized there is high possibility of application of next generation memory device using organic thin film device and nano particles, and we expect more researches about this issue would be done.

  • A polarization fluorescence correlation spectroscopy system based on a confocal microscope was built to study the rotational and translational diffusion of CdSe/CdS quantum rods (Q-rods), with the same and different polarization states between the polarizer and the analyzer (i.e. the XXX and XYY states). The rotational diffusion amplitude showed the dependences on polarization of $0.75{\pm}0.05$ in the XXX state and $0.26{\pm}0.03$ in the XYY state, when the translational diffusion amplitude was 1. The diffusion coefficients of the Q-rods were found based on their translational and rotational diffusion times in the two polarization states, in solutions with viscosity ranging from 0.9 to 6.9 cP. The translational and rotational diffusion coefficients ranged from $1.5{\times}10^{-11}$ to $2.6{\times}10^{-12}m^2s^{-1}$ and from $2.9{\times}10^5$ to $5.6{\times}10^4s^{-1}$, respectively.

  • The Cd0.95Mn0.05Te0.98Se0.02 (CMTS) ingot was grown by the vertical Bridgman technique at low pressure. All wafers showed high resistivity, which suggests potential as a room-temperature semiconductor detector. The resistivity of the CMTS planar detector was 1.47 × 1010 Ω·cm and mobility lifetime product of electrons was 1.29 × 10-3 cm2/V. The spectroscopic property with Am-241 and Co-57 was evaluated. The energy resolution about 59.5 keV gamma-ray of Am-241 was 11% and the photo-peak of 122 keV gamma-ray from Co-57 was clearly distinguished. The result shows the first detector-grade CMTS in the world and proves CMTS's potential as a radiation detector operating at room temperature.

  • Over the past several years, colloidal core/shell type quantum dots lighting-emitting diodes (QDLEDs) have been extensively studied and developed for the future of optoelectronic applications. In the work, we fabricate an inverted CdSe/ZnS quantum dot (QD) based light-emitting diodes (QDLED). In order to reduce work function of indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode for inverted structure, a very thin (<10 nm) polyethylenimine ethoxylated (PEIE) is used as surface modifier[1] instead of conventional metal oxide electron injection layer. The PEIE layer substantially reduces the work function of ITO electrodes which is estimated to be 3.08 eV by ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy (UPS). From transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study, CdSe/ZnS QDs are uniformly distributed and formed by a monolayer on PEIE layer. In this inverted QDLEDs, blend of poly (9,9-di-n-octyl-fluorene-alt-benzothiadiazolo) and poly(N,N'-bis(4-butylphenyl)-N,N'-bis(phenyl)benzidine] are used as hole transporting layer (HTL) to improve hole transporting property. At the operating voltage of 8 V, the QDLED device emitted spectrally orange color lights with high luminance up to 2450 cd/m2, and showed current efficacy of 0.6 cd/A, respectively.
