An Empirical Analysis of Industrial Design′s Functional Role in the Causal Model of Quality Competitiveness : Korean Manufacturing Sector (품질경쟁력 인과모형 하에서 산업디자인의 기능적 역할에 관한 실증적 분석 : 한국 제조업 부문을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study are two the first is to identify the positioning of product design and analyze its functional relationship with product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales in the comprehensive competitiveness evaluation model ; and the second is to estimate the determinants of QCI(quality competitiveness index), analyze the impact of product design on QCI, and compare the aforementioned results for the seven industrial sectors and the five product patterns. For this empirical analysis, this study surveyed 400 Korean manufacturing firms during August-October 2003. The major empirical findings are summarized as follows : First, the hypothesis on the positive effect of product design on QCI is accepted at a highly significant level (p < 0.001) for all : the manufacturing sector, seven industrial sectors, and five product categories. Second, the correlation analysis and factor analysis lead to the result that the effect of product design on QCI is estimated to be relatively very low, in comparison to those of product functionality and basic performance on QCI. These findings imply that Korean manufacturing sector has been still in the prematured stage at which product design has not played an important role yet. This study concludes that product design in line with other functions (product development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales) should make a good contribution to the improvement of QCI in the future.

Effect of servant leadership of dentists on organizational culture and the happiness index of dental hygienists (치과의사의 서번트 리더십이 조직문화와 치과위생사의 행복지수에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine how the dentist's servant leadership affects the happiness index of dental hygienists. Methods: The subjects were 221 dental hygienists that have been working at dental clinics or dental hospitals. The data were analyzed using SPSS Version 20.0 (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA). An independent t-test and one-way ANOVA analysis were conducted to examine the difference in the happiness index of dental hygienists according to general characteristics. The independent t-test was conducted to examine organizational culture and happiness index according to upper and lower group based on the mean score for servant leadership. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to examine the correlation among key factors. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify factors influencing the happiness index of dental hygienists. Results: According to the analysis, there was a statistically significant positive correlation between the dentist's servant leadership, the organizational culture and the happiness index of dental hygienists. However, a stewardship of the dentist's servant leadership factors was not found to have any correlation with the market culture. A multiple regression analysis was performed after including the dentist's servant leadership, the organizational culture and the happiness index of dental hygienists. Meanwhile, the stewardship and community-building effect of the dentist's servant leadership had a statistically significant effect on the happiness index of dental hygienists. Consequently, a higher servant leadership factor in dentists was correlated with a higher happiness index of dental hygienists. Conclusions:The findings show that the dentist's servant leadership affect the happiness index of dental hygienists. Therefore, effective intervention and education programs related to the dentist's servant leadership and sound organizational culture are necessary to enhance dental hygienists' happiness index. Additionally, a follow-up study will determine the causal relationship among the dentist's servant leadership, the organizational culture and the happiness index of dental hygienists, considering organizational members and the environment of the dental clinics.

A Study on Use Satisfaction and Image Evaluation of User through Post Occupancy Evaluation in Urban Park - On the 2·28 Memorial Park in Daegu - (도심공원 이용 후 평가를 통한 이용 만족도와 이미지 평가 - 대구 2·28기념중앙공원을 대상으로 -)

  • This paper deals with Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) of 2.28 Memorial Park in Daegu. The park is located in center of the city. The results and discussions could be used as basic data for urban park planning and design, in CBD. A questionnaire was conducted for 15 days from May 11, to May 26, 2016, and a sample group consisting of 230 on site users. The behavior, satisfaction, and preference of space image, were surveyed. The behavior analysis, satisfaction, and image evaluation questionnaire were derived using previous studies, and reliability, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS. As a result, the items were very reliable, causal factors were extracted, and the variables that affect satisfaction and image preference were able to be identified. In the 2.28 Memorial Park, user satisfaction and image evaluation value were very high in most items. As a result of the assessment, the green-water landscape factors and cleanness factors, which have the greatest influence on satisfaction and preference, should be continuously maintained. Due to the characteristics of the city center parks, the users of the parks also felt environmental problems in the urban areas, so the users assessed noise levels, plant species, and air quality at a low level. Therefore, to solve this, plans such as noise abatement and extension of green space should be ongoing.

  • Korea's economic development plans instituted in the 1970's, affected by the growth centered policy and rapid industrialization, have prevailed without having aviation safety management system, along with the safety of the other various means of transportation, settled in its place, and subsequently, the aviation accidents occurred until the beginning of year 2000 have incurred an enormous social expense, not to say of a massive loss of human lives. Especially, with regard to the causal factors of accidents, most of recent accidents have been associated with human factor of airmen, thus, only if this can be detected in advance and prevented, the aircraft accident rate will be reduced by a large margin. Therefore, in order to develope improvement methods on the safety system of civil aviation, in this study, safety management system has been divided into three stages: an advance preventive system, a handling system at an accident's occurrence and a post accident handling system, and thereby improvement methods on aviation safety have been suggested for each stage. The threatening factors agatinst aviation safety have been found to be the absence of management standards and regulations, the indifference to or the lack of the law abiding apirit as major factors, and in order to improve on which, it is required that the settlement of the institutional safety management system should precede, and that the Government and the aviation industry should also make a continuous effort to identify the threatening factors against aviation safety, and to provide incentives for the law abiding spirit and the attitude of giving top priority to safety to spread among all the employees.

Risk and Responsibility in Korean Tobacco Litigation: Epidemiology and Causality in Late Modern Risk (한국 담배소송에서의 위험과 책임: 역학과 후기 근대적 인과)

  • Toxic tort cases have increased dramatically since the 1970s, as large technological systems, such as nuclear power plants and chemical factories, or mass-produced, high-tech products, had exposed citizens and consumers to dangerous substances. It was, however, difficult to establish causal connection between exposure and the alleged harms in many of the environmental, pollution, and product liability cases under the framework of tort law conception of causation and responsibility. Science and law was called upon to resolve such 'late modern' legal cases where true causes are hard to find, where no single explanatory factor is sufficient for explaining diseases like cancer. This article examines how plaintiffs in the Korean tobacco litigation mobilized such late modern tools in science and law, such as epidemiology and the allocation of the burden of proof, in the context of the global circulation of science and law. It further shows how a set of the scientific theories and legal arguments developed in order to cope with late modern risk played a central role in establishing a causation between smoking and cancer in 2011. This article suggests that STS scholars can fruitfully examine the interaction between science and law as a way to understand and engage with social and legal issues engendered by late modern risk.

The Effects of Social Entrepreneurship and Market Orientation on Performance in Social Enterprise (사회적 기업가정신과 시장지향성이 사회적기업의 경영성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is to verify the components of social entrepreneurship, market orientation and the causal relationship by examining the impact of each factor on the performance of social enterprises. The survey was conducted on certified social enterprises and the sample of 142 copies was demonstrated with SPSS 22.0. The analysis of the impact on the economic and social performance of social enterprises is as follows. First, the social value orientation and risk sensitivity showed significant results indicating that the social enterprise had a significant impact in part on the economic performance. The social value orientation of the spirit of social entrepreneurs showed significant results on the social performance. Second, market orientation has been shown to have a significant positive influence on both the economic and social performance. This study empirically assessed the impact of Social Entrepreneurship and Market Orientation on the Social and Economic Performance the re-recognition of the importance of social enterprise requires. Next, more active research on market orientation is required in the future in order to strengthen the competitiveness of social enterprises.

Determinants of Hotel Customers' Use of the Contactless Service: Mixed-Method Approach (호텔 고객의 비대면 서비스 이용의도의 영향요인에 대한 연구)

  • The development of information and communication technology and COVID-19 have caused an unusual change in the hotel industry, and the demand for the contactless services such as service robots from hotel customers has surged. Therefore, this study investigates the perception of hotel customers on contactless services by applying a mixed-method analysis. Specifically, this study identified the causal correlations between variables through the structural equation model, and further applied the fuzzy set qualitative comparison analysis to derive patterns of variables that form the intention to use the non-face-to-face services. As a result of the analysis, it was shown that service experience co-creation, palyfulness, personalization, and trust had a significant effect on intention to use through the contactless service use desire. On the other hand, in the results of fuzzy-set qualitative comparison analysis, playfulness was derived as a core factor in all patterns. Based on these analysis results, this study provides academic basis for in-depth understanding of hotel customers' perception of contactless service and specific guidelines for hotel managers on the contactless service strategies in the era of COVID-19 pandemic.

A Study on the Characteristics of Blockchain-Based Financial Platform and the Intention to Use (블록체인 기반 금융 플랫폼 특성과 사용 의도에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the effect of user characteristics and technical characteristics of a blockchain-based financial platform on the intention to use of financial consumers was analyzed. Also, in this influence relationship, we analyzed what kind of causal relationship between relative advantage and perceived risk on intention to use. From June 1 to July 30, 2021, a non-face-to-face self-filling online survey was conducted with a sample of subjects who had experience using a financial platform grafted with blockchain technology, and the study was conducted in 187 copies. For statistical processing, frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and 3-step mediated regression analysis were performed using SPSS 21.0 program. The significance level of the statistical value was set to less than 95%. The research results are as follows. First, it was found that innovativeness and usefulness affect the intention to use in the user characteristics. Second, in the technical characteristics, compatibility and reliability were found to affect the intention to use. Third, it was found that relative advantage and perceived risk play a partial mediating role in the relationship between user characteristics and intention to use. Fourth, it was found that relative advantage and perceived risk play a partial mediating role in the relationship between technical characteristics and intention to use. Fifth, it was found that there were differences in the ubiquity of user characteristics, compatibility of technical characteristics and intention to use according to the experience of using the certificate. The results of this study can contribute to the development of a financial platform based on the Internet of Things.

Structural Analysis of the Perspective on Work of Young Workers with High School Diplomas: Focusing on mediation effect of learning motivation (고졸 청년노동자의 노동관에 관한 구조적 분석: 학습동기 매개효과 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore various factors during the career development period affecting the formation of the perspective on work of young workers after they graduated from high school, and to analyze the influence of each factor. The panel data of the Korean Education Longitudinal Study 2005 was used for the study. Specifically, the data on the 303 employees in the 7th year(2011) of their employment was used. First, perspective of young workers on work was affected by social self (self-awareness-related variables), educational background of their father(family background-related variables), and intrinsic and extrinsic learning motivation(learning motivation-related variables) formed during the career development period. However, extrinsic learning motivation had a passive and negative effect on motivation and giving value to work. Second, the variables related to self-awareness in the career development period and the variables related to the family background were found to have a causal relationship with the formation of young workers' perspective on work. This study is significant in that the learning motives formed during the career development period are found to be very meaningful and important variables for the formation of young workers' perspective on work.

Developing Measurements of University Satisfaction using Public Customer Satisfaction Index (공공기관 고객만족지수를 이용한 대학의 고객만족 측정도구 개발)

  • With the higher competition of university environment, universities has been adapted Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI). However, the problem of CSI focuses on score and ranking announcement. In public sectors, PCSI model is used because of increasing its strategic utilization by providing diagnosis of the phenomenon and direction for future improvement through causal model analysis. The purpose of this research is to develop a measurements of university satisfaction using PCSI. This research demonstrates validity and reliability of PCSI using test-retest method using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis. The results of this research indicate that the reliability and validity of the PCSI model is verified. Service product quality, service delivery quality, environment quality and social quality have positive effects on customer satisfaction. In turn, customer satisfaction have positve effects on university performance and social performance. In conclusion, service quality, PCSI, and service performance are clarified to be appropriate components of the satisfaction survey. These results can be used to measure the satisfaction level of education at actual universities. It is expected that practical basic data can be obtained to improve the quality of university education.
