A Study on the Trolley Sliding Condition Inspection System

  • The Korean electric railway is growing rapidly such as speed of 300km/h in high speed section and 230km/h in the conventional railway section. But, power supply failure occurs because of loss of contact, defective catenary system and high speed vehicle. Therefore preventive maintenance way based reliability has been applied. Typical example is the facility inspection method using trolley inspection system. But it is required differentiated inspection method to prevent problem such as inspection errors. In this paper, a study on the trolley sliding condition inspection system using monitoring techniques is performed for performance enhancement of inspection system. It proposed the efficient maintenance method through monitoring the deviation and height of contact wire after installing inspection system on the top of train which operates in the metropolitan area. Inspection errors were decreased by virtually monitoring the video of faulty facilities. Also those facilities were identified through the impact sound analysis and tests at the main catenary section.

  • Catenary/pantograph system consists of overhead lines which have non-uniform elasticity and pantographs which move at high speed and give force to the lines, therefore happen to be failed in contacts between both from time to time. In this study, as the first step to develop a dynamic simulation program, the general theory is discussed for catenary/pantograph system and appropriate modelling. And comparison is conducted with the references after making a program which referred to the contact force equation algorithm. On this algorithm, the unknown contact force is computed by the equations which was induced as combining catenary and pantograph motion equations expressed in finite difference form. Another simulation program based on the assumed contact forces algorithm was developed. In this algorithm, numerical integraion of both the overhead line and pantograph equations, which without combining, are effected for two assumed values of contact force. The correct contact force is then obtained from these two sets of results by linear interpolation to satisfy the contact condition. Through the comparative review on the outputs from this program, it is verified that this algorithm is reliable.

  • Regenerative Energy Storage System(ESS) is a system that saves regenerative energy which generated instantly in the regenerative braking of Electric Multiple Unit(EMU) and disappear, and reuse the stored energy when EMU is in powering. Such system related to a research field of renewable energy which emerged concerning climate change and high oil prices. In the case of existing domestic rolling stock, about 25% to 30% of generated regenerative energy is restored to power source and is regarded as direct factor of raising catenary voltage. Such rapid change of catenary voltage is a cause of the failure of EMU's electronic equipment and lowering its reliability and is also a cause of train's fault occurred by tripping circuit breaker. In this paper, we intend to investigate the effect on blending characteristics of electric-braking and pneumatic-braking whether the regenerative energy storage system is used or not in urban transit DC 1,500V feeding system, while trains run. And we also intend to investigate its effect on stabilization of the blending, fluctuation of catenary voltage and various electric equipments.

  • This study presents a simulation of the traction return current based on $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system in order to determine the impedance bond intensity of impulse type track circuit on the electrified Gyeongbu line. The results of the simulation enables us to measure the precise intensity of catenary current that returns to the substation through KTX (Korean Train Express) operated by $2{\times}25kV$ power supply system with common earth network. The combination of $2{\times}25kV$ and common earth network established on the electrified Gyeongbu line for the first time in Korea.   • In this paper, as a conceptual design of the catenary-current collection run tester which is planning to be constructed by KRRI, the feasibility study is described. In this study, reviews to determine the propulsion linear motor rating based on the target distance-speed curve through various simulation of LSM propulsion system were conducted. Moreover, the reviews of simulation results and desirable linear motor specifications are discussed in this paper.

  • The pantograph for Korean High Speed Train was developed and had been evaluating by through 'G7-R&D project for home grown high speed train technology' In this study, in mechanical aspect, the variation trend of contact force between pantograph and catenary according to the train running speed and driving pattern is conducted. A measuring system for current collecting performance and mechanical characteristics is used for this study, developed and installed on the prototype Korean High Speed Train, and physical characteristics were measured while the KHST runs on the test track. Through this study, remarkable trends of variation are found and analyzed from measured acceleration and vertical contact force between the pan head in pantograph and contact wire in catenary system according to the driving pattern and the train raised a running speed up to 300km/h.

전차선로 탄성도 불균일율과 동역학적 성능과의 관계에 대한 연구 (A study on the correlation between the degree of elasticity uniformity and the dynamic performance in the overhead contact lines)

  • 전차선로는 각 경간마다 양단으로 지지점을 갖게 되므로 지지점에서의 탄성도와 경간중앙에서의 탄성도가 같을 수 없다. 이 두 지점의 탄성도의 차이를 나타내는 계수로 불균일율이라는 지수가 정의되어 널리 사용되어왔다. 이 불균일율은 전차선 장력과 경간 길이에 크게 영향 받는다. 그러나 드로퍼의 배치 간격에 따라서도 달라진다. 이 불균일율은 전차선로의 동적인 특성을 예측하는 하나의 변수로 활용되고 결국 집전 성능을 상대 비교하여 판단하는데 활용되며, 직접적으로는 드로퍼 간격을 설계하는데 있어서 중요한 파라미터로 사용되고 있다. 그러나 이 불균일율은 전차선로의 동적 성능을 적절히 반영하는 지수가 되지 못하고 있다고 판단하고 있다. 불균일율의 정의인 경간 중앙에서의 탄성율과 경간 끝 지정의 탄성율과의 단순한 차이 값의 크기만으로는 드로퍼의 수와 배치 간격에 따른 특성을 반영하지 못한다고 판단된다. 이를 여러 가지 다양한 케이스를 가정하여 탄성도 해석 프로그램을 이용하여 평가해본다. 평가 결과를 토대로 드로퍼 수에 따른 보정계수를 갖는 새로운 불균일율 평가 지수를 제시하고자 하며 이 새로운 지수가 기존의 지수보다 보다 집전 성능을 판단하는데 유용한 데이터가 됨을 증명한다. 또한 아울러 불균일율이 다른 가선 구조에 대하여 팬터그래프의 1단과 2단의 스프링 계수의 크기와의 조합과 상환 관계에 따른 집전 성능의 차이를 전차선로-팬터그래프 동역학 시뮬레이션 프로그램을 사용하여 평가한다. 이를 통하여 불균일율에 따른 보다 적절한 팬터그래프 동역학 모델을 제시한다.

활차식 자동장력조정장치 성능진단 및 유지보수 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on Performance Diagnosis of the Pulley Type Automatic Tensioning Device and Improvement of Maintenance)

  • The automatic tensioning device of the catenary system constantly maintains the tension of the trolley wire by absorbing the variations due to the elasticity of the line caused by temperature variation. The tension plays an important role in affecting the electric motorcar operation directly. This paper suggests the methodology of the life cycle extension and the maintenance of the automatic tensioning device by means of performance diagnosis of the pulley type automatic tensioning device which has been commonly used for the electric railway system. Through conducting performance diagnosis and comparative test for the wornout pulley type automatic tensioning device by replacing the components such as the bearing and the bearing shaft without replacing all the assembly, the tensioning device is analyzed whether it is properly functioned. Provided that the maintenance regulation is reinforced so as to implement the bearing replacement through periodical precise inspection along with random check-up inspection which is now carried out by the operating organizations, it is ensured that the life cycle extension and the reduction of maintenance cost of the tensioning device could be achieved.

  • We propose an optical-based measuring instrument of catenary system in electric railway. This system was made to utilize line scan camera as inspecting system to measure the stagger and height of overhead contact wire in railway and composed with optical type source and FPGA-based image acquisition system with PCI slot. Vision acquisition software has been used for the application to programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage with a frequency of sampling. To check the validity of our approach for the intended application, we monitored height and stagger in the overhead wire of a high-speed catenary system in Korea. The proposed optical-based measuring instrument to measure the contact wire geometry such as the hight and stagger shows promising on-field applications for online condition motoring. We expect that a new generation of real-time instruments with demanding various conditions motoring requirement in railway can be easily integrated into optical-based measuring instrument system.

  • when a fault occurs, we need the fault locator to find out the location of the fault quickly. The fault locator can find out the exact location of the fault through the line constants of the catenary system. If the configuration of the catenary system is modified, the line constants is also changed. Therefore, this paper analyzes the error of the operation of the fault locator by the simulation.
