This study aimed to analyze the effect of total allowable catches (TACs) on the target species. First to effects analyse of TACs, the 8 TAC target species and 75 non-target species were selected for which catch data were available before and after the introduction of the TACs. The 8 target species were simply compared to catch changes before and after TACs. Through the comparison, it was confirmed how the catches of target fishes have changed after the implementation of the TACs. Secondly, the Difference In Differences(DID) analysis was conducted to confirm the effects of the TACs on the catches of the target fishes using the catch data of 8 TAC target species and 75 non-TAC species. Finally, to overcome the limitations of the DID analysis, the random effects model was estimated to confirm the effects of the TACs on the catch of the TAC target species. Overall, this study confirmed that the TACs affects catches of target species, not only through simple comparisons of catches before and after the introduction of the TACs but also through econometric analysis.
Water temperature data of National. Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) during periods of 19m to 2002 were analyzed to investigate the effect of the water temperature on catches of anchovy and laver in the eastern part of the Southern Waters of Korea The annual catches of anchovy and laver increased gradually although they showed fluctuations each year. Our findings indicated tint the catches cf anchovy and laver were controlled by various oceanographic conditions, mainly water temperature. The appearance of cooler sea surface water, warmer water at 0 to 20 m depth, and bottom water of about $15^{\circ}C$ caused relatively lower catches.
The purpose of this paper is to find out how catches of certain species of marine fish in China influence the marine fisheries of Korea. The results are as follows: 1) While the catches of the main species of marine fish are over 74% in Korea, those of China are under 45%. 2) The main species of marine fish in China(MFC) are hair tails, jack mackerels, anchovies, mackerels, Spanish mackerels, pomfrets, redlip croakers, fie fish, sea breams, sardines, croakers and bigeyed herrings. 3) All the MFC belong to the main species of marine fish in Korea. 4) The fishing grounds of hair tails, jack mackerels, mackerels, Spanish mackerels, pomfrets and croakers in China are similar to those of Korea. 5) Catches of hair tails, jack mackerels, Spanish mackerels, pomfrets, file fish, sea breams and bigeyed herrings in China are many times more than those in Korea. Therefore Korea can't compete with China with such species of marine fish. 6) The price of MFC apart from mackerels and sardines is more competitive than the price of such species in Korea. When the catches of China's marine fish are imported, the species of China's marine fish that will have a great influence on the marine fisheries of Korea are hair tails, jack mackerels, pomfrets and sea breams.

The large two-boat trawl is of importance in Korean fishery. It occupied 12.8% of total catches in 1974. The author analysed the reports of six large two-boat trawlers operated at the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, in the term from September 1975 to March 1976. The results obtained are as follows; (1) 1,710 of total hauls are operated in the term, and the total catches amounted 559, 181kg. Then, 325kg of catch per unit effort (C. P. U. E) are obtained. The catches are specified into 28% of soles, 12% of shrimp, 8% of yellow corvenia, hair tail, kang-dari, and the rest of miscellanous fishes. (2) C. P. U. E. of the southern sectors of the Soheaksan Is. represented superior catches to compared with others sectors. (3) The monthly variation of C. P. U. E. between sea eel and yellow corvenia revealed positive correlation, whereas between sole and shlimp, between hair tail and rays revealed negative correlation respectively.

This study was carried out to compare the regional fishing gears and catches of the gape net with wings used in Jeonnam, Korea. The total length of the gear used in Yeosu, Wando and Jindo was 107.0m, 64.0m, 52.8m, and the size of codend was 4.3mm. 7.8mm. 9.8mm, respectively. The total number of bycatch species from anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) catches in Yeosu, Wando, and Jindo during the survey period were 21, 13, and 13 species. A total of individuals of anchovy accounted for over 90% out of total catches in all survey areas. The proportion of anchovy individuals was constantly high up to October in Yeosu, but it showed a sharp reduction to 18% in October in Wando with the increase of the individuals of Kammal thryssa (Thryssa kammalensis) and Big eyed herring (Sardinella zunasi). In Jindo, individuals of anchovy occupied over 99.8% out of total catches up to August. Since August, the number of individuals of Big eyed herring (Sardinella zunasi), Kammal thryssa (Thryssa kammalensis), and Slimy (Leiognathus nuchalis) has increased while the number of anchovy individuals were decreased.
Forecasts of the monthly catches of anchovy in Korea were carried out by the seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model and spectral analysis. The seasonal ARIMA model is as follows: $$(1-0.431B)(1-B^{12})Z_t=(1-0.882B^{12})e_t$$ where: $Z_t=value$ at month $t;\;B^{p}$ is a backward shift operator, that is, $B^pZ_t=Z_{t-p};$ and $e_t=error$ term at month t, which is to forecast 24 months ahead the anchovy catches in Korea. The prediction error by the Box-Cox transformation on monthly anchovy catches in Korea was less than that by the logarithmic transformation. The equation of the Box-Cox transformation was $Y'=(Y^{0.58}-1)/0.58$. Forecasts of the monthly anchovy catches for $1991\~1992$, which were compared with the actual catches, had an absolute percentage error (APE) range of $1.0\~63.2\%$. Total observed annual catches in 1991 and 1992 were 170,293 M/T and 168,234 M/T respectively, while the predicted catches were 148,201 M/T and 148,834 M/T $(API\;13.0\%\;and\;11.5\%,\;respectively)$. The spectrum analysis of the monthly catches of anchovy showed some dominant fluctuations in the periods of 2.2, 6.1, 10.2 12.0 and 14.7 months. The spectrum analysis was also useful for selecting the ARIMA model.

The author investigated the relation between the catches of tuna species and the distribution of horizontal mean temperature at the Jepth of 10m and of vertical temperture sections in the different fishing grounds, using the date of catches in 1980, showing a relative good ones during six years from 1975 to 1980, and of oceanographic observations. Yellowfin and bigeye are mainly caught in South Equatorial Current regions including equatorial upwelling region in 5$^{\circ}$N to 5$^{\circ}$S, and albacore is mainly caught in Subtropical region in 20$^{\circ}$5 to 40$^{\circ}$5. The good fishing grounds of yellowfin and bigeye are made in the depth layer of 100 m to 250 m and temperature of 15$^{\circ}$C to 26$^{\circ}$C having a smooth gradient of thermocline in the Central Pacific between 180$^{\circ}$ and 1500W. But albacore is caught well in which the temperature of thermocline ranges from 100e to 25$^{\circ}$C and its gradient very smoothly. Approaching to the American Continent, the catches of yellowfin and big eye decrease because the thermocline becomes shallower and steeper at Eastern Pacific Region between 1500 and 800W.

Physical characteristics of PA (Polyamide) gill net and biodegradable gill net made by PBS (Polybutylene succinate) (mesh size 63mm, mesh thickness number 2, 2.5, 3) were analyzed to investigate catching efficiency of the biodegradable gill net for Pacific herring. Total 11 numbers of catching efficiency tests were carried out using commercial fishing vessel at Imwon port in Kangwon province from May to June 2013. The amount of catches were 1,535.7kg (18 species) through the catching efficiency tests and it is expected that the practicalization of biodegradable gillnet is possible because there is no difference for catches between PA gillnet and PBS gillnet. Catches of herring according to the thickness of net twine was the highest at No.2 and the thicker net twine tends to decrease the catches.

Experimental fishing was carried out to compare the catches of main species and bycatch according to the codend mesh size (raschel, 15mm, 25mm, 35mm, 45mm) of stow net on anchor in the coastal waters of Seocheon after manufacturing five kinds of fishing gears and commercial fishing boat (7.93 tons) was used for it. Anchovy (Engraulis japonicus), southern rough shrimp (Trachysalambria curvirostris), beka squid (Loligo beka), cuttle fish (Sepia esculenta), swimming crab (Portunus trituberculatus) were dominant on the five kinds of experimental fishing gears. Southern rough shrimp was caught from all kinds of fishing gears and catches of anchovy was highest in the raschel codend, southern rough shrimp for 15mm, 25mm, 35mm codend and beka squid for 45mm codend. Bycatch proportion against total catches was 623,376g (28.7%) for 2,171,844g in raschel, 11,932g (1.7%) for 704,451g in 15mm, 3,616g (1.6%) for 221,432g in 25mm, 9,276g (4.9%) for 191,052g in 35mm and 2,724g (5.3%) for 51,431g in 45mm.
