Objectives : This study was aimed at exploring career-related characteristics of premedical students in Korean Medicine college and those relationships with career development readiness and vocational value. Methods : A total of 140 premedical students participated in the survey. The questionnaire consisted of demographic characteristics and career-related characteristics such as motive for career choice, specialty preference after college graduation, and school life adaptation. Also they responded in the web-survey of career development readiness inventory and vocational value inventory developed by Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training. Eight items of motive for career choice were collected from the pilot study from 70 premedical students. Results : 'Job stability' was the top motive for career choice(25.5%). The average college life adaptation score was relatively low(13.7) : higher in male(14.3) and the early career decision group(14.2) than female (12.9) and late decision group(12.9), which was statistically significant(p=0.019 and p=0.036, respectively) in the subgroup analyses. The result of career development readiness inventory showed that 'self-knowledge' (79.3) and 'confidence on career decision' (78.6) were the two highest, which is similar to the result of the vocational value inventory ('fulfilling abilities' and 'self-improvement'). More characteristics were also described. Conclusions : The results showed that Korean Medicine premedical students have high vocational identity. This study suggested that more specified studies for identifying career-related characteristics for Korean Medical students should be conducted in order to design systematic and professional medical education programs.
The purpose of this research is to study the relation between the change of driver's driving confidence level in the age categories and driving behavior. To survey the driving confidence level, we used the 'Driving Confidence Scale' questionnaire and surveyed the drive career, mileage, driving days, violation of traffic regulation (drunk driving, overspeed), traffic accident experience (assaulter, sufferer) together. The subjects of investigation were from 19-year-old to 80-year-old and 1,055 persons were participated in the research totally. To examinethe structure of driving confidence level, we executed the factor analysis. We compared the driving confidence level in the age categories (under 29-year-old, 30~39, 40~49, 50~64, over 65-year-old) and studied the relation between driving confidence level and driving behavior. Driving confidence level was composed of 4 factors such as 'insensibility to situation', 'unsafe driving', 'careless concentration' and 'self-efficacy of driving', and there was decreasing tendency for driving confidence level and overall driving behavior according to increasing age. Driving confidence level had the interrelation with age range, assaulting accident, suffered accident, driving period, drunk driving, overspeed, driving career and so on. We examined the difference of driving confidence level and driving behavior by dividing the participated drivers' groups into the traffic accident experienced group, drunk driving group and overspeed driving group, and there was a significant difference on driving confidence level and driving behavior between the group who had not experienced the violation of traffic regulation or traffic accident and another group who had experienced the violation of traffic regulation or traffic accident.

The purpose of this study was to identify the variables influential on Normative Clothing Conformity, Identificational Clothing Conformity, Clothing Anticonformity, and Clothing Independence. Four clothing-related variables (importance of clothing, confidence of clothing, recognition of clothing norm, and perceived risk of clothing), two personality variables (confer-mistic character and self-esteem) and six demographic variable (sex, age, years of education, job, income, and length of career) were included in the analysis. The responses of 714 fulltime employeed subjects from four different cities were analyzed. Business wear was used as the situational stimulus. As the results, career people conformed more identificationally when they felt clothing was important, had conformistic character, had low self-esteem, and felt psychological risk of clothing. They conformed more normatively when they felt social risk of clothing, recognized the clothing norms of the fim, had confoirnistic character, and recognized the clothing norms of the society. They anticonformed more when they felt clothing was important, were female, did not have conformistic character, had confidence of clothing, and felt less performance risk of clothing. And they acted more independently in clothing behavior when they had confidence of clothing, did not have conformistic character, felt peformance risk of clothing, and felt less social risk of clothing.

The purposes of this study were to examine trends in Korean middle school students' attitudes toward science and the differences in boys' and girls' attitudes toward science as well as to analyze Korean middle school students' attitudes toward science compared to those in Singapore, Chinese-Taipei, Hong Kong, and Japan. In order to achieve these purposes, we analyzed students' survey data on self-confidence in science, interests in science, external motivation for science, and career preference for science collected from TIMSS 1995, TIMSS 1999, and TIMSS 2003. Korean students' interests in science and external motivation for science reduced in TIMSS 1999 and increased again in TIMSS 2003. The amount of change was greater in interests in science. On the other hand, self-confidence in science and career preference for science consistently declined from TIMSS 1995 to TIMSS 2003. Self-confidence in science among boys and girls was similar in TIMSS 1995 and 1999. But self-confidence of girls in science declined rapidly from TIMSS 1999 to 2003, while self-confidence of boys in science remained almost the same. Trends of interests in science were similar between boys and girls; they declined in TIMSS 1999 and increased again in TIMSS 2003. External motivation for science of both boys and girls increased, and the increase among girls was greater. The percentage of boys who wanted to have a job using science consistently declined from TIMSS 1999 to TIMSS 2003, while the percentage of girls declined in TIMSS 1999 and increased in TIMSS 2003 again. The results from an international comparison with other Asian countries having similar cultures showed that Korean students' self-confidence in science, career preference for science of middle school students was the lowest.

This study was conducted to identify factors which predict and discriminate women' reemployment. 288 married women whose careers had been interrupted for more than 1 year and 287 married women who re-entered into the labor market within 5 years were surveyed. Collected data were analyzed by logistic regression analysis. In the personal factor(reemployment need), proximal context factors(career barriers, family support and expectation for reemployment) and background context factors(SES, family life cycle), background context factors were revealed not to predict significantly women's reemployment. Secondly, in the case of proximal context factors, it was found that 'expectation of family members for reemployment' and 'sharing family care' had strong effects on reemployment. And compared with interrupted women, reemployed women were less likely to perceive career barriers. Specifically, they showed lower expectation to their job and status which they would achieve, less perceived gender/age discrimination in labor market, and had more confidence that they could find a job. Finally, with regard to the personal factor (reemployment need), the lower women had self-actualization need, the higher economic need, and the higher social need, it was highly likely to classify into reemployed women. We discussed the way to improve reemployment of career interrupted women based on above mentioned findings.

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of career resilience and its sub-variables in the relationship between career barriers and career preparation behavior. Toward this end, 338 college students were selected as subjects of the study. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 25.0 and the process macro of Hayes. The main research results are as follows. First, the career barrier showed significant negative correlations with career preparation behavior, career resilience, and the sub-variables of career resilience. The career preparation behavior showed significant positive correlations with career resilience and the sub-variables of career resilience. Second, the career resilience showed a significant complete mediating effect in the relationship between career barrier and career preparation behavior. This means that when career resilience was mediated, career barriers affected career preparation behavior through career resilience; however, career barrier did not directly affect career preparation behavior. Third, the achievement aspiration and career self-reliance showed a significant mediating effect in the relationship between career barrier and career preparation behavior. However, self-confidence, coping with change, and relationship utilization did not show significant mediating effects. Based on these findings, the implications of career education and suggestions for subsequent research were discussed.

Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the level of knowledge, self-confidence, and intention of basic life support (BLS) and identify the reason why clinical nurses lack confidence to initiate BLS at the cardiac arrest scene. Method: A cross-sectional survey was used with questionnaires which authors developed; a BLS knowledge questionnaire and a tool for measuring the level of self-confidence and intention of performing BLS. The subjects consisted of 396 nurses by convenient sampling from ten small to medium sized hospitals in Korea. Data were collected from March to August, 2008. Data were analyzed by the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program with t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The percentile score of BLS knowledge was 40.6%, self-confidence 62.1%, and intention 73.0%. Clinical career rather than BLS knowledge has a significant effect on increasing the self-confidence and intention of performing BLS. A major reason for not performing BLS was lack of confidence in operating an AED (automatic external defibrillator). Conclusion: An effective and continuous training program especially including AED for CPR should be provided with clinical nurses to increase self-confidence and intention of performing BLS and to improve the survival of cardiac arrest patients in the hospital.
