The effect of synthesis conditions such as carbon nanotube (CNT), 2,2,2-trifluoroethylmethacrylate (3FMA), and composition of organic-inorganic material in ozone resistance and surface characteristics of ultraviolet cured organic-inorganic hybrid coating film has been investigated. Coating solution was prepared using tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), silane coupling agent methacryloyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS), 3FMA, various organic materials with acrylate group, and CNT, then bar-coated on substrates using applicator, and densified by UV-curing. It was found that ozone resistance and adhesion of the coating film were strongly dependent upon contents of TEOS, 3FMA, and CNT. Especially, ozone resistance, adhesion, and surface hardness of coating film with CNT were improved, relatively. Ozone resistance of coating film with a high TEOS content was increased, but adhesion was decreased. In addition, it was also found that ozone resistance of coating film was increased with contents of 3FMA. On the other hand, surface hardness was decreased with increase of 3FMA.
In this study, we investigated a carbon nanotube (CNT) film sensor to detect hazardous and noxious substances distributed in seawater. The response change of the sensor was studied according to environmental temperature, and its temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR, α) was measured. The temperature of the CNT film (~50 ㎛) was in the range of 20-50 ℃, and αCNT was calculated to be -0.0011 %/ ℃. We experimentally confirmed that the CNT film had a smaller TCR value than that of the conventional sensor. Therefore, we investigated the response change of the CNT sensor according to temperature. The CNT sensor showed a relatively small error of approximately 2.3 % up to 30 ℃, which is within the temperature range of the seawater of the Korean Peninsula. However, when the temperature exceeded 40 ℃, the error in the CNT sensor increased by more than 5.2 %. We fabricated a metal oxide (ITO, indium-tin-oxide) film and compared its performance with that of the CNT sensor. The ITO sensor showed an error of >12.5 % at 30 ℃, indicating that in terms of the stability of the sensor to temperature, the CNT film sensor has superior performance.

Electro-deposition of carbon film on silicon substrate in methanol solution was carried out with various current density, solution temperature and electrode spacing between anode and cathode. The carbon films with smooth surface morphology and high electrical resistance were formed when the distance between electrode was relatively wider. The electrical resistance of the carbon films were independent of both current density and solution temperature.
We developed a novel growth method of aligned carbon nanotubes. Aligned carbon nanotubes are grown on a metal catalyst on a glass substrate using biased Helicon plasma chemical vapor deposition (HPECVD) of $CH_4/H_2$ gases from 400 C to 500 C. The Helicon plasma source is one of the high-density plasma sources and is promising for low temperature carbon deposition. A Ni film was used as a catalyst to reduce the activation energy of the nanotubes' growth. The carbon nanotubes were deposited on the nickel catalysis layer selectively.
In the present work, electroless plating was used for coating thin films consisting mainly of Ni and P on carbon fiber. Structural changes appeared upon the post-annealing at various temperatures of the Ni-P film on carbon fiber was studied using various analysis methods. Scanning, a flat surface structure of Ni-P film on carbon fiber was found after electroless plating of Ni-P film on carbon fiber without post-annealing, whereas annealing at $350^{\circ}C$ resulted the formation of porous structures. With increasing the annealing temperature to $650^{\circ}C$ with an interval of $50^{\circ}C$, the pore size increased, but the density decreased. X-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the existence of metallic Ni, and Ni-P compounds before post-annealing, whereas the post-annealing resulted in the appearance of NiO peaks, and the decrease in the intensity of the peak of metallic Ni. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), phosphorous oxides were detected on the surface upon annealing at $650^{\circ}C$, and $700^{\circ}C$, which can be attributed to the phosphorous compounds originally existing in the deeper layers of the Ni films, which undergo sublimation and escape from the film upon annealing. Escape of phosphorous species from the bulk of Ni-P film upon annealing could leave a porous structure in the Ni films. Porous materials can be of potential applications in diverse fields due to their interesting physical properties such as high surface area, and methods for fabricating porous Ni films introduced here could be easily applied to a large-scale production, and therefore applicable in diverse fields such as environmental filters.

The structure and properties of tetrahedral amorphous carbon (ta-C) coatings depend on the main process parameters and bending angles of the magnetic field filter used in the filtered cathodic vacuum arc (FCVA). During the process, it is possible to effectively control the plasma flux of carbon ions incident on the substrate by controlling the arc discharge current, thereby influencing the mechanical properties of the coating film. Furthermore, we can control the size and amount of large particles mixed during carbon film formation while conforming with the bending angle of the mechanical filter mounted on the FCVA; therefore, it also influences the mechanical properties. In this study, we consider tribological characteristics for filtered bending angles of 45° and 90° as a function of arc discharge currents of 60 and 100 A, respectively. Experiment results indicate that the frictional behavior of the ta-C coating film is independent of the bending angle of the filter. However, its sliding wear behavior significantly changes according to the bending angle of the FCVA filter, unlike the effect of the discharge current. Further, upon changing the bending angle from 45° to 90°, abrasive wear gets accelerated, thereby changing the size and mixing amount of macro particles inside the coating film.
Carbon/Carbon composite was been manufactured by the technology of warmer-molding process of clutter chopped carbon fiber, using phenolic resin as an adhesive. The degree of graphitization, the microstructure and the friction properties were studied. The results show that the clutter chopped carbon fiber fully scatter in the Carbon/Carbon composite and the degree of graphitization of phenolic resin can reach up to 86.2%, this matrix carbon can form the continuous and stable graphitic thin film on the friction surface during braking process so that the composite has fine friction properties and low wear rate.
This study investigated the effects of organic loading rates on simultaneous carbon and nitrogen removal in an innovative fixed-film aerobic bioreactor. The fixed-film bioreactor (FFB) was composed of a two-compartment aeration tank, in which a synthetic filamentous carrier was submerged as biofilm support media, and a settling tank which polyvinylidene media (Saran) was used as settling aid for suspended solids. Three different organic loading rates, ranging from 0.92-2.02 kg chemical oxygen demand/$m^3$/day were applied by varying hydraulic retention time (HRT). The total soluble organic carbon removal efficiencies were in the range of 90-97%. The removal efficiency of ammonia was found to be in the range of 70-84%. Total nitrogen removal efficiency was found to be in the range of 40-45%, which indicates that denitrification reactions occurred simultaneously in the attached biofilm on the fibrous media in the aeration tank. The settling performance of suspended solids was significantly improved due to the presence of Saran media in the settling compartment, even for a short HRT. The fixed-film aerobic bioreactor used in this study demonstrated efficient treatment efficiency even at higher organic loading rates and at short HRTs.
A technique to measure the adsorption characteristic of surface area and pore size of a ceramic thin film is proposed, and its performance is examine. The thin film is fabricated directly on the resonator surface to measure the adsorption capacity of the film as it is, and using carbon dioxide makes the measurement easy. The results indicates that the measured surface area is satisfactory, while the pore size has some error. It is suggested that readily available carbon dioxide can be used to determine adsorption capacity of thin film at room temperature.

Recently the world is trying to reduce carbon emissions for global warming. Reducing use of fossil fuels can decrease carbon emission. In this reason the construction field has tried to reduce the use of fossil fuels relating to heating and cooling of buildings. An energy loss through the window system is about 10 to 30 percent of energy consumption of the whole building. The use of window film insulation is increasing to control the heat loss at the windows. The window film insulation absorbs solar radiation and makes the surface temperature of windows high. In this study, window surface temperature is measured, and an impact on indoor air is identified after attaching window film insulation. Finally, we found that cooling load decreases through simulation.
