Comparative Economic Analysis on SOx Scrubber Operation for ECA Sailing Vessel

  • The IMO (International Maritime Organization) has mandated the restriction of SOx emissions to 0.5 % for all international sailing vessels since January 2020. And, a number of countries have designated emission control areas for stricter environmental regulations. Three representative methods have been suggested to cope with these regulations; using low-sulphur oil, installing a scrubber, or using LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) as fuel. In this paper, economic analysis was performed by comparing the method of installing a scrubber with the method of using low-sulphur oil without installing additional equipment. We suggested plausible layouts and compared the pros and cons of dif erent scrubber types for retrofitting. We selected an international sailing ship as the target vessel and estimated payback time and benefits based on navigation route, fuel consumption, and installation and operation costs. Two case of oil prices were analyzed considering the uncertainty of fuel oil price fluctuation. We found that the expected payback time of investment varies from 1 year to 3.5 years depending on the operation ratio of emission control areas and the fuel oil price change.

  • 광-회선-패킷 통합 전달망 장비는 광전송망, 회선 망, 패킷 전달망 계층을 하나로 통합한 장비로써, 패킷-회선 교환 전달, ROADM(Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer) 광파장 교환 전달, GMPLS(Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) 기반 통합제어 및 관리기능을 수행하면서 네트워크 구조의 단순화, 네트워크 제어의 지능화, 그리고 네트워크 용량의 광대역화를 구현한다. 트래픽 폭증과 전송용량 부족 현상을 해결하고, 트래픽 증가 대비 수익의 탈동조화 현상을 극복하기 위해 네트워크 CAPEX(Capital Expenditures)/OPEX(Operating Expenditures)를 절감함으로써 통신사업자의 투자 여건을 우호적으로 조성하면서 최근 주목 받고 있는 기술이다. 본고에서는 광-회선-패킷 통합 전달망의 기술동향을 기술한 것으로써, 배경, 필요성 및 개념 개발동향 및 경쟁기술에 대해서 살펴보고, 기술발전 로드랩 및 주요 기술 동향과 시장 및 사업화 전망에 대해서 분석한다.

  • SDN(Software Defined Network) 기술이 미국을 중심으로 먼저 출발하였으며 NFV(Network Function Virtualization) 기술은 유럽을 중심으로 한 SDN의 경쟁적인 기술로 초기에는 인식이 되었으나, 두 기술의 상호 시너지 효과를 고려하여 2013년 하반기부터는 다양한 형태의 협력 방안들이 표준단체, 산업체 및 캐리어들로부터 소개되고 있다. 두 기술이 지향하는 가장 큰 목표는 하드웨어의 의존성을 배제하고 네트워크 및 서비스를 추상화함으로써 캐리어들이 신규 서비스를 Time-to-Market에 맞게 그러면서도 유연하게 출시하고 제어 및 관리를 중앙집중 방식으로 제공하여 CAPEX(Capital Expenditure) & OPEX(Operating Expense)를 최소화 하는데 있다. 본고에서는 이 두 기술의 표준화 및 기술 동향, 그리고 아직은 태동기인 두 기술이 지향하는 다양한 Use Case들과 적용사례를 캐리어 환경 중심으로 살펴보고 향후 상용화 및 산업화에 대한 장 단기 발전 전망에 대해 기술 중심으로 예측해 본다.

Application of DEA to Investigate Distinctive Regional Characteristics for Asia-Pacific Telco Management

  • In this paper, we present the DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) application case study to investigate the regionally distinctive telco management characteristics of the Asia-Pacific countries. This study attempts to exploit the implications of DEA for the assessments of core process capabilities of telcos. Accordingly, we extract input variables of CAPEX (capital expenditure), operating expense, marketing expense, and number of employees, each to reflect the competitiveness of the core processes such as fixed asset utilization, operation & sales efficiency, and white collar productivity. In conjunction with the input variables, the output variables are chosen as EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization), ARPU (Average Revenue per User), and number of subscribers. The computational testing results, conducted with total 37 telcos of the 12 Asia-Pacific countries, are analyzed in various ways to understand the distinctive performance characteristics across the region. The managerial implication captured from this study provides useful insight for using DEA as the international telco management purpose.

  • This thesis proposed an objective and accurate fundamental numeric data for the economics and business analysis of applicable CCS technology to plant using existing fossil fuel by analyzing the influence of process improvement for commercialization of Carbon Capture and Storage(CCS) technology, which enables storing $CO_2$ generated by fossil fuel by extracting before emitting to air and press until it becomes liquid, and development and performance improvement of new solvent on Total Life Cycle Cost(TLC) of CCS.

  • In order to invest in overseas mineral projects, it is necessary to have a ability of technical and financial evaluation. Reserve estimation is the most important for mineral appraisal. Geostatistical evaluation of tonnage and grade promises more accurate reserve estimation than traditional methods such as polygon, inverse distance method and so on even if it has some uncertainty. Selection of a mining method and a mineral processing is also important because capex and opcosts of a mineral project is due to the selection. Mineral project is usually evaluated financially using NPV and IRR which are calculated through DCF(Discount Cash Flow). Uncertainty of a mineral project is analyzed statistically using sensitivity analysis and montecarlo simulation.

  • 무선 통신의 용량 증대와 음성 지역 해소 그리고 QoS를 위하여 최근 활발하게 연구개발되고 있는 femtocell은 사용자에게는 저렴한 통신 요금과 위치 인식 서비스 그리고 위치 통지에 의한 closed subscriber group간의 가족 위치 확인같은 편리성 제공과 통신사업자에게 OPEX, CAPEX 경감 등 장점을 제공하고 있다. 한편 기존의 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅환경하에서 주변 상황 정보를 감지하여 인지하는 context awareness에 센싱과 서비스가 동시에 이루어지는 새로운 파라다임을 제공해 주고 있어 상황인지 시스템 구축에 파라다임의 변화가 필요한 시점이다. 즉, raw data 취득, 가독 data로 변환, 고수준 상황추론, 서비스 제공 등의 시스템 구축이 휴대 단말의 응용 프로그램이나 네트워크에서 단말을 인식하여 연결된 기기들에 대해 정보 전달이 가능해져 별도의 시스템 구축 없이도 상당 부분의 상황인지 framework 기능이 가능하게 되었다.

  • In CDMA based mobile communication network, signaling messages are routed through Signaling Transfer Point(STP) which is responsible for MTP layer 3 switching. As WCDMA based UMTS network is considered as next generation technology allowing global roaming services, all nodes in networks have their own identity number called Global Title(GT). Therefore, it is essential to introduce Signaling Gateway(SG) responsible for SCCP layer switching to solve the problem each node has all GT tables including even all overseas nodes. In this paper, we propose the signaling network architecture in UMTS networks using SG and we show that we can reduce CAPEX and OPEX in each node. To show the validity of the proposed method some simulations are given in which the results can be expected by intuitive observation.

  • GWI(2019)에 따르면, 2020년 기준 세계 물시장은 약 996조 원(8,034억 $) 규모로 추정되며, 2024년까지 연평균 3.4%대의 성장을 기록할 것으로 전망된다. 이에 선진 국가를 비롯 글로벌 기업들은 물시장의 선점을 위하여 경주한지 오래이며, 우리 정부는 2000년을 기점으로 물산업 육성관점에서 해외시장 진출을 강조하고 있다. 하지만 국내 기업의 해외시장 진출을 위해서는 무엇보다 중점 육성 분야 및 타겟시장 등의 선정이 필요한데, 이를 위한 분석적 정보는 찾아보기 어렵다. 이에 본 연구는 데이터 기반의 물시장 현황 및 전망을 분석·제공함으로써, 물기업의 중점 육성분야 및 타겟시장 선정에 도움을 제공하고자 하였다. 분석 결과는 ① 사업별 물시장 ② 제품별 물시장, ③ 지역별 물시장으로 구분하였으며, 시장 유형은 자본투자와 운영시장으로 구분하였다.

  • Car-sharing is a representative model of the sharing economy, and it is a service that rents or uses a car for the necessary time without owning a car. This industry is growing due to various factors such as technological advances, increasing awareness of environmental protection, and increasing demand for solving traffic congestion problems in cities. Accordingly, there is a need for a strategic approach for companies providing car-sharing services to respond quickly to market changes in order to expand market share and differentiate services. Accordingly, this study conducted a case study on open innovation activities between Gongcar and existing rental car companies, focusing on the research question "What effects do open innovation activities between car-sharing companies and existing rental car companies cause?" As a result of the study, it was confirmed that Gongcar have (1) the ability to actively respond to market fluctuations by establishing a flexible vehicle supply chain based on demand, (2) have significantly reduced growth capital expenditure (Growth Capex), and both cafe and rental car companies have (3) performed successful open innovation by improving key KPI indicators and recording financial performance. This study reveals how open innovation acts as a key business growth engine in the car-sharing industry, and its significance is found in that it empirically confirmed the successful implementation conditions of open innovation based on resource dependence theory.
