Single-Switch Buck Converter with a Ripple-Free Inductor Current

  • This paper presents a single-switch buck converter with a ripple-free inductor current. In the proposed converter, the filter inductor current ripple is completely removed by utilizing an auxiliary circuit consisting of an additional winding of the filter inductor, an auxiliary inductor, and an auxiliary capacitor. Moreover, the ripple-free current characteristic is maintained under both light load and full load conditions. The theoretical analysis and performance of the proposed converter were verified with a 110W experimental prototype operating at a 107 kHz switching frequency.

  • Most of inverters adopt a diode rectifier as an input stage, which has very simple and rugged structure and therefore low cost. In order to properly design the 3-phase diode rectifier with an output smoothing capacitor and input inductors, it is necessary to fully simulate the system due to its nonlinear characteristics. Therefore this paper describes the operating behaviors including the current commutation in detail by using the proposed equivalent circuit, and also proposes the Simulink-based model of the system. The simulation results show the validity of the proposed model in all operating conditions.

Li4Ti5O11 전극을 이용한 비대칭 하이브리드 슈퍼커패시터 전기적 모듈 특성 (The Electric Characteristics of Asymmetric Hybrid Supercapacitor Modules with Li4Ti5O11 Electrode)

  • Among the lithium metal oxides for asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor, $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}(LTO)$ is an emerging electrode material as zero-stain material in volume change during the with the charging and discharging processes. The pulverized LTO powder was observed to show the enhanced capacity from 120 mAh/g to 156 mAh/g at C-rate (10, 100 C). Hybrid supercapacitor module(48V, 416F) was fabricated using an asymmetric hybrid capacitor with a capacitance of 7500F. As a result of the measurement of C-rate characteristics, the module shows that the discharge time is drastically reduced at more than 50C, and the ESR and voltage drop characteristics are increased. The energy density and power density were reduced under high C-rate conditions. When designing asymmetric hybrid supercapacitor module, the C-rate and ESR should be considered As a result of measuring the 5 kw UPS, it was discharged at the current of 116A~170A during the discharge in the voltage range of 48V~30V, and the compensation time at discharge was measured to be about 33.2s. Experimental results show that it can be applied to applications related to stabilization of power quality by applying hybrid supercapacitor module.

ZVT Series Capacitor Interleaved Buck Converter with High Step-Down Conversion Ratio

  • Voltage step-down converters are very popular in distributed power systems, voltage regular modules, electric vehicles, etc. However, a high step-down voltage ratio is required in many applications to prevent the traditional buck converter from operating at extreme duty cycles. In this paper, a series capacitor interleaved buck converter with a soft switching technique is proposed. The DC voltage ratio of the proposed converter is half that of the traditional buck converter and the voltage stress across the one main switch and the diodes is reduced. Moreover, by paralleling the series connected auxiliary switch and the auxiliary inductor with the main inductor, zero voltage transition (ZVT) of the main switches can be obtained without increasing the voltage or current stress of the main power switches. In addition, zero current turned-on and zero current switching (ZCS) of the auxiliary switches can be achieved. Furthermore, owing to the presence of the auxiliary inductor, the turned-off rate of the output diodes can be limited and the reverse-recovery switching losses of the diodes can be reduced. Thus, the efficiency of the proposed converter can be improved. The DC voltage gain ratio, soft switching conditions and a design guideline for the critical parameters are given in this paper. A loss analysis of the proposed converter is shown to demonstrate its advantages over traditional converter topologies. Finally, experimental results obtained from a 100V/10V prototype are presented to verify the analysis of the proposed converter.

  • We developed a simple method to synthesis a nitrogen doped graphene, nitrogen plasma treated graphene (NPG) sheets thought nitrogen plasma etching of graphene oxide (GO). X-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS) study of NPG sheets treated at various plasma conditions reveal that N-doping is classified to 3 kinds of binding configurations. The nitrogen doping concentration is at least 1.5 at % and up to 3 at% with changing of ratio of nitrogen configuration in NPG. Our group demonstrate ultracapacitor with high capacity and extremely durable using a NPG sheets that are comparable to pristine graphene supercapacitor, and pseudocapacitor using polymer and metal oxide with redox reaction, capacitance that are three-times higher, and a cycle life that are extremely stable. We also realized flexible capacitor by using the paper electrode that are coated by NPG sheets. NPG paper capacitor presented almost same performance compare with NPG on a metal substrate, and durability is much more enhanced than that. To additionally explain that how different kind of atoms in graphene layers can act as the ion absorption sites, we simulated the binding energy between nitrogen in graphene layer and ions in electrolyte. Increasing the energy density and long cycle life of ultracapacitor will enable them to compete with batteries and conventional capacitors in number of applications.

  • 전도성 고분자인 폴리피롤(PPy)을 전해질로 하는 알루미늄(Al)고체전해 캐패시터를 제작하기 위하여 알루미늄 산화피막($Al_2O_3$) 위에 화학산화중합(CP)법으로 얇은 PPy층을 형성시키고, 이 층을 양극으로 이용하여 피롤(Py)을 전해산화중합(EP)시켰다. 캐패시터 특성에 영향을 미치는 중합조건을 조사한 결과, 지지전해질로서 sodium p-toluenesulfonate (TsONa)를 사용하고, 소자당 2.0~4.0 mA의 정전류를 인가, 전해중합 후 제작한 캐패시터의 전기적 특성 및 임피던스 특성이 가장 우수하였다.

  • In MIS capacitor structure, we have studied the electrical properties in Ammonium Sulfide solution treatment while AIN thin film as a insulator is being formed by reactive sputtering method. The deposition process conditions of AIN thin film we temperature $250^{\circ}C$, DC Power 150 W, pressure 5 mTorr and 8 sccm(Ar : 4 sccm, $N_{2}$ : 4 sccm). The surface of GaAs was treated with Ammonium Sulfide solution, it was shown the leakage current was less than $10^{-8}\;A/cm^{2}$. The deep depletion phenomena of inverse area with treating Ammonium Sulfide solution in C-V analysis was improved as compared the condition of without Ammonium Sulfide solution and hysteresis property as well.

능력가변을 위한 단상유도전동기의 극수변환 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Pole Change Method of the Single-Phase Induction Motor for Capability Variation)

  • Capacitor-run single-phase induction motor is cheaper than motors that use permanent magnets and is widely used in home appliances and industries based on relatively high durability and productivity. It can also be operated by line. However speed cannot be controlled because the line frequency is free. In this paper we dealt pole change method one of the method controlling speed of capacitor-run single-phase induction motor. The conventional pole change method is difficult to improve the power and efficiency of the motor because the composition of the pole change device is complex and do not have enough area of the windings because of windings not used according to the driving conditions. In this paper, we proposed the pole change method that is used main windings and auxiliary windings at 4 poles operation and used auxiliary windings as compensation windings at 2 poles operation. The proposed method was verified through finite element analysis.

Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition of $Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3$ Thin Films for High-Density Ferroelectric Random Access Memory Application

  • The growth characteristics of metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) $Pb(Zr_xTi_{1-x})O_3 (PZT) thin films were investigated for the application of high-density ferroelectric random access memories (FRAM) devices beyond 64Mbit density. The supply control of Pb precursor plays the most critical role in order to achieve a reliable process for PZT thin film deposition. We have monitored the changes in the microstructure and electrical properties of films on increasing the Pb precursor supply into the reaction chamber. Under optimized conditions, $Ir/IrO_2/PZT(100nm)/Ir capacitor shows well-saturated hysteresis loops with a remanent polarization (Pr) of $~28{\mu}C/textrm{cm}^2$ and coercive voltage of 0.8V at 2.5V. Other issues such as step coverage, compositional uniformity and low temperature deposition was discussed in viewpoint of actual device application.

  • We fabricated the Pb$_{1-0.28{\alpha}}La_{0.28}TiO_{3}$ (PLT(28)) thin film successfully by using the sol-gel method and characterized it to evaluate its potential for being utilized as the capacitor dielectrics of ULSI DRAMs. In our sol-gel process, the acetates were used as the starting materials. Through the TGA-DTA analysis, we established the excellent fabrication conditions of the sol-gel method for the PLT(28) thin film. We obtained the dense and crack-free PLT(28) thin film of 100% perovskite phase by drying at 350$^{\circ}C$ after each coating and final annealing at 650$^{\circ}C$. Its electrical properties were measured from the planar capacitors fabricated on the Pt/Ti/SiO$_{2}$/Si substrate. By the P-E hysteresis measurement, its paraelectric phase was identified and its dielectric constant and leakage current density were measured as 936 and 1.1${\mu}A/cm^{2}$, respectively. Those electrical values indicate that the PLT(28) thin film is the most successful candidate for the capacitor dielectrics of ULSI DRAMs at the present.
