Faster R-CNN 기반의 실시간 번호판 검출 (Real-Time License Plate Detection Based on Faster R-CNN)

  • 자동차 번호판 검출 자동화(ALPD: Automatic License Plate Detection) 시스템은 효율적인 교통 관제를 위한 핵심 기술이며, 통행료 지불 시스템, 주차장 및 교통 관리와 같은 많은 응용에 사용되어 업무의 효율을 높이고 있다. 최근까지의 ALPD에 관한 연구에서는 주로 영상처리를 위해 설계된 기존의 특징들을 추출하여 번호판 검출에 사용해왔다. 이러한 종래의 방법은 속도에 이점은 있으나, 다양한 환경 변화에 따른 성능 저하를 보였다. 본 논문에서는 전반적인 성능을 향상시키기 위하여 Faster R-CNN과 CNN으로 구성되는 두 단 구조를 활용하는 방법을 제안한다. 이를 통해 동작 속도를 향상시키고, 다양한 환경변화에 강인하도록 구성하였다. 첫 번째 단계에서는 Faster R-CNN을 적용하여 번호판 영역 후보영역들을 선별하며, 두 번째 단에서 CNN을 활용하여 후보영역들 중에서 False Positives를 제거함으로써 검출률을 향상시켰다. 이를 통해 ZFNet을 기반으로 하여 99.94%의 검출률을 달성하였다. 또한 평균 운용시간은 80ms/image로써 빠르고 강인한 실시간 번호판 검출 시스템을 구현할 수 있었다.

AHP 분석기법을 활용한 ASEAN 도로망 투자우선순위 분석 (Prioritization of ASEAN Highway Development Using ANalytic Hierarchy Process)

  • ASEAN(Association of South East Asian Nations, 동남아시아국가연합체)은 회원국인 라오스, 말레이시아, 미얀마, 베트남, 브루나이, 싱가포르, 인도네시아, 캄보디아, 태국, 필리핀을 연결하여 영내의 경제적 교류 및 이해를 증진시키려는 목적으로 최근 ASEAN 도로망 사업을 추진하기로 결정하였다. ASEAN 도로망은 총 연장 37.193km, 23개 노선으로 구성된다. 이 가운데 5,481km 구간은 아직 도로가 없거나 차량소통이 불가능한 상태 (단절구간 및 도로 등급 3등급 미만)에 있다. 따라서 ASEAN 도로망이 제기능을 수행하기 위해서는 이들 구간을 개발하는 것이 무엇보다 시급하다. 본 연구에서는 계층분석법(Analytic Hierarchy Process)을 이용하여 이들 도로구간에 대한 사업우선순위를 결정하였다. 특히, 대상도로구간이 여러 도로축(또는 도로 그룹)에 산발적으로 위치한 점을 고려하여 도로축의 중요도를 반영한 개별도로구간의 우선순위결정 방법론을 제시하였다. 또한 단위가 서로 다른 평가항목을 모두 같은 척도로 비교할 수 있는 방안을 제시하고 있다. 본 연구는 분석대상 도로구간이 여러 국가 혹은 지역에 산재되어 있어 전통적인 편익-비용 분석을 수행하기에는 비용과 시간측면에서 곤란한 상황에서 간편하고 합리적인 도로 우선순위결정 방법론을 제시한 측면에서 의의가 있다.

950℃ 순수헬륨 분위기에서 크리프 파단된 Alloy 617의 미세구조적 고찰 (Microstructural Investigation of Alloy 617 Creep-Ruptured in Pure Helium Environment at 950℃)

  • The very high temperature gas reactor (VHTR) is one of the next generation nuclear reactors for its safety, long-term stability, and proliferation-resistance. The high operating temperature of over 800$^{\circ}C$ enables various applications with high energy efficiency. Heat is transferred from the primary helium loop to the secondary helium loop through the intermediate heat exchanger (IHX). The IHX material requires creep resistance, oxidation resistance, and corrosion resistance in a helium environment at high operating temperatures. A Ni-based superalloy such as Alloy 617 is considered as a primary candidate material for the intermediate heat exchanger. In this study, the microstructures of Alloy 617 crept in pure helium and air environments at 950$^{\circ}C$ were observed. The rupture time in helium was shorter than that in air under small applied stresses. As the exposure time increased, the thickness of outer oxide layer of the specimens clearly increased but delaminated after a long creep time. The depth of the carbide-depleted zone was rather high in the specimens under high applied stress. The reason was elucidated by the comparison between the ruptured region and grip region of the samples. It is considered that decarburization caused by minor gas impurities in a helium environment caused the reduction in creep rupture time.

Electrical characteristics of SiC thin film charge trap memory with barrier engineered tunnel layer

  • Recently, nonvolatile memories (NVM) of various types have been researched to improve the electrical performance such as program/erase voltages, speed and retention times. Also, the charge trap memory is a strong candidate to realize the ultra dense 20-nm scale NVM. Furthermore, the high charge efficiency and the thermal stability of SiC nanocrystals NVM with single $SiO_2$ tunnel barrier have been reported. [1-2] In this study, the SiC charge trap NVM was fabricated and electrical properties were characterized. The 100-nm thick Poly-Si layer was deposited to confined source/drain region by using low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LP-CVD). After etching and lithography process for fabricate the gate region, the $Si_3N_4/SiO_2/Si_3N_4$ (NON) and $SiO_2/Si_3N_4/SiO_2$ (ONO) barrier engineered tunnel layer were deposited by using LP-CVD. The equivalent oxide thickness of NON and ONO tunnel layer are 5.2 nm and 5.6 nm, respectively. By using ultra-high vacuum magnetron sputtering with base pressure 3x10-10 Torr, the 2-nm SiC and 20-nm $SiO_2$ were successively deposited on ONO and NON tunnel layers. Finally, after deposited 200-nm thick Al layer, the source, drain and gate areas were defined by using reactive-ion etching and photolithography. The lengths of squire gate are $2\;{\mu}m$, $5\;{\mu}m$ and $10\;{\mu}m$. The electrical properties of devices were measured by using a HP 4156A precision semiconductor parameter analyzer, E4980A LCR capacitor meter and an Agilent 81104A pulse pattern generator system. The electrical characteristics such as the memory effect, program/erase speeds, operation voltages, and retention time of SiC charge trap memory device with barrier engineered tunnel layer will be discussed.

Gray Matter Volume Reductions Were Associated with TPH1 Polymorphisms in Depressive Disorder Patients with Suicidal Attempts

  • Objective Structural changes of brain areas have been reported in depressive disorder and suicidal behavior (SB), in which TPH1 also has been known as a promising candidate gene. We investigated gray matter volume (GMV) differences, TPH1 rs1800532 and rs1799913 polymorphisms previously found to be associated with depressive disorder and SB, and the relationship between the two markers. Methods Thirteen depressive disorder patients with suicidal attempts (SA) and twenty healthy controls were included. We examined GMV differences using a voxel-based morphometry and regions of interest analysis. Direct sequencing was used for genotyping. Results The patients showed significant GMV reduction in left cerebral region including middle frontal gyrus, inferior frontal gyrus, and anterior cingulate cortex; in right middle temporal gyrus; in left cerebellar tonsil; and in right cerebral region including precentral gyrus and postcentral gyrus (corrected p<0.005). The right precentral and postcentral gyri GMV values of AA and CA genotypes patients were significantly decreased compared to those of CC genotype subjects (corrected p=0.040). Conclusion These findings show the possibility that both GMV reductions and TPH1 rs1800532/rs1799913 A allele may be involved in the pathogenesis of depressive disorder patients with SA.

A fast and reliable polymerase chain reaction method based on short interspersed nuclear elements detection for the discrimination of buffalo, cattle, goat, and sheep species in dairy products

  • Objective: Aim of present study was the set up of a fast and reliable protocol using species-specific markers for the quali-quantitative analysis of DNA and the detection of ruminant biological components in dairy products. For this purpose, the promoter of the gene coding for the ${\alpha}$-lactoalbumin (LALBA) was chosen as possible candidate for the presence of short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs). Methods: DNA was isolated from somatic cells of 120 individual milk samples of cattle (30), Mediterranean river buffalo (30), goat (30), and sheep (30) and the gene promoter region (about 600/700 bp) of LALBA (from about 600 bp upstream of exon 1) has been sequenced. For the development of a single polymerase chain reaction (PCR) protocol that allows the simultaneous identification of DNA from the four species of ruminants, the following internal primers pair were used: 5'-CACTGATCTTAAAGCTCAGGTT-3' (forward) and 5'-TCAGA GTAGGCCACAGAAG-3' (reverse). Results: Sequencing results of LALBA gene promoter region confirmed the presence of SINEs as monomorphic "within" and variable in size "among" the selected species. Amplicon lengths were 582 bp in cattle, 592 bp in buffalo, 655 in goat and 729 bp in sheep. PCR specificity was demonstrated by the detection of trace amounts of species-specific DNA from mixed sources ($0.25ng/{\mu}L$). Conclusion: We developed a rapid PCR protocol for the quali-quantitative analysis of DNA and the traceability of dairy products using a species-specific marker with only one pair of primers. Our results validate the proposed technique as a suitable tool for a simple and inexpensive (economic) detection of animal origin components in foodstuffs.

Therapeutic effects of stiripentol against ischemia-reperfusion injury in gerbils focusing on cognitive deficit, neuronal death, astrocyte damage and blood brain barrier leakage in the hippocampus

  • Stiripentol is an anti-epileptic drug for the treating of refractory status epilepticus. It has been reported that stiripentol can attenuate seizure severity and reduce seizure-induced neuronal damage in animal models of epilepsy. The objective of the present study was to investigate effects of post-treatment with stiripentol on cognitive deficit and neuronal damage in the cornu ammonis 1 (CA1) region of the hippocampus proper following transient ischemia in the forebrain of gerbils. To evaluate ischemia-induced cognitive impairments, passive avoidance test and 8-arm radial maze test were performed. It was found that post-treatment with stiripentol at 20 mg/kg, but not 10 or 15 mg/kg, reduced ischemia-induced memory impairment. Transient ischemia-induced neuronal death in the CA1 region was also significantly attenuated only by 20 mg/kg stiripentol treatment after transient ischemia. In addition, 20 mg/kg stiripentol treatment significantly decreased ischemia-induced astrocyte damage and immunoglobulin G leakage. In brief, stiripentol treatment after transient ischemia ameliorated transient ischemia-induced cognitive impairment in gerbils, showing that pyramidal neurons were protected and astrocyte damage and blood brain barrier leakage were significantly attenuated in the hippocampus. Results of this study suggest stiripentol can be developed as a candidate of therapeutic drug for ischemic stroke.

Genetic analysis of the postsynaptic transmembrane X-linked neuroligin 3 gene in autism

  • Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder, the prevalence of which has increased drastically in India in recent years. Neuroligin is a type I transmembrane protein that plays a crucial role in synaptogenesis. Alterations in synaptic genes are most commonly implicated in autism and other cognitive disorders. The present study investigated the neuroligin 3 gene in the Indian autistic population by sequencing and in silico pathogenicity prediction of molecular changes. In total, 108 clinically described individuals with autism were included from the North Karnataka region of India, along with 150 age-, sex-, and ethnicity-matched healthy controls. Genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood, and exonic regions were sequenced. The functional and structural effects of variants of the neuroligin 3 protein were predicted. One coding sequence variant (a missense variant) and four non-coding variants (two 5'-untranslated region [UTR] variants and two 3'-UTR variants) were recorded. The novel missense variant was found in 25% of the autistic population. The C/C genotype of c.551T>C was significantly more common in autistic children than in controls (p = 0.001), and a significantly increased risk of autism (24.7-fold) was associated with this genotype (p = 0.001). The missense variant showed pathogenic effects and high evolutionary conservation over the functions of the neuroligin 3 protein. In the present study, we reported a novel missense variant, V184A, which causes abnormal neuroligin 3 and was found with high frequency in the Indian autistic population. Therefore, neuroligin is a candidate gene for future molecular investigations and functional analysis in the Indian autistic population.

딥러닝에 의한 한글 필기체 교정 어플 구현 (An Implementation of Hangul Handwriting Correction Application Based on Deep Learning)

  • 현재 디지털 기기의 확산과 함께 일상에서 손으로 쓰는 글씨의 비중은 점점 줄어들고 있다. 키보드와 터치스크린의 활용도 증가에 따라 한글 필기체의 품질 저하는 어린 학생부터 성인까지 넓은 범위의 한글 문서에서 관찰되고 있다. 그러나 한글 필기체는 여전히 개인적인 고유한 특징을 포함하면서 가독성을 제공하는 많은 문서 작성에 필요하다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 손으로 쓴 한글 필기체의 품질을 개선하고, 교정하기 위한 목적의 어플 구현을 목적으로 한다. 제안된 어플은 CRAFT(Character-Region Awareness For Text Detection) 모델을 사용하여 필기체 영역을 검출하고, 딥러닝으로서 VGG-Feature-Extraction 모델을 사용하여 필기체의 특징을 학습한다. 이때 사용자가 작성한 한글 필기체의 음절 단위로 신뢰도를 인식률로 제시하고, 또한, 후보 폰트들중에서 가장 유사한 글자체를 추천하도록 구현한다. 다양한 실험을 통해 제안한 어플은 기존의 상용화된 문자 인식 소프트웨어와 비교할만한 우수한 인식률을 제공함을 확인할 수 있다.

단열 셔터의 기밀성능 및 단열성능 확보를 위한 Azon 및 Azo-Core의 적용성 평가 (Evaluation of the Applicability of Azon and Azo-Core for Enhancing Airtightness and Thermal Insulation Performance of Insulated Shutters)

  • 본 연구는 창호에 사용되고 있는 Azon과 Azo-Core를 셔터에 활용하여 단열성능을 확보하고자 Therm 7.4 프로그램과 기밀, 단열성 시험을 통해 검토하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 Azon 및 Azo-Core는 기존의 단열재에 비해 단열성이 우수했으며 셔터에 적용 시 1등급의 기밀성능과 평균2.018W/m2·k의 열관류율을 확인하였다. 이는 외부셔터 설치 기준 중부지방 1.5W/m2·k, 남부지방 1.8W/m2·k보다 높은 수치이지만 제주지방 2.2W/m2·k에는 적용 가능한 수치이며 Azon과 병행 적용이 아닌 Azo-Core만 적용할 수 있는 추가 연구가 검토된다면 셔터 단열재로 사용 가능성이 있다.
