  • HyperGam-U was recently developed to determine uranium enrichment based on ${\gamma}$- and X-ray spectroscopy analysis. The $XK_{\alpha}$ region of the uranium spectrum contains 13 peaks for $^{235}U$ and $^{238}U$ and is used mainly for analysis. To describe the X-ray peaks, a Lorentzian broadened shape function was used, and methods were developed to reduce the number of fitting parameters for decomposing the strongly overlapping peaks using channel-energy, energy-width, and energy-efficiency calibration functions. For validation, eight certified reference material uranium samples covering uranium enrichments from 1% to 99% were measured using a high-resolution planar high-purity germanium detector and analyzed using the HyperGam-U code. When corrections for the attenuation and true coincidence summing were performed for the detection geometry in this experiment, the goodness of fit was improved by a few percent. The enrichment bias in this study did not exceed 2% compared with the certified values for all measured samples.

  • One can see more and more photograrmmetric applications dealing with the extraction of information from images obtained with CCD (Charge Coupled Device) camera scanners. In order for this information to be useful, the scanning errors of scanners must be known through a calibration. Investigation of this study is given to the detailed procedure of the correction for scanning errors created during the scanning of photographs with CCD camera scanner using the three kinds of high resolution reseal plates prepared. The geometric corrected digital images for scanning errors were generated and the accuracy of the resulting new images for each types of plates were checked comparing its image coordinates with there corresponding ground coordinates for the check points.

  • Cascade summing occurs when two gamma-rays emitted in the decay of a single nucleus both deposit energy in a detector. The effect may cause systematic errors that can reach levels of more than ten percent for some radionuclides. A method for estimation of the effect of these coincidences was developed. It is based on direct computation of the effect by means of peak to total ratio measured for the place around the detector. It has been shown that the P/T ratio for the given energy in the working space around the detector may not be a constant value and must use its mean value. Some results from a peak to total calibration study in the presence of scattering materials are also given.

  • In SI engine research the pressure data in cylinder is the most important fundamental ones leading to engine efficiencies and performances. It is, therefore, necessary to obtain accurate pressure data and yet it is often impossible to install a reliable data producing, flush-mounted type pressure transducer in a cylinder of small and medium size multicylinder SI engines. When flush mounting the transducer is not possible, the spark-plug type pressure transducer is commonly used as an alternative. In this case, the transmission tube of spark-plug type pressure transducer introduces distortions in the pressure signal. Efforts were made to understand the dynamic characteristics of spark-plug pressure transducer by shock tube tests and real engine experiments. In engine experiment the cylinder pressure data were simultaneously obtained by both flush mounted and spark-plug type pressure transducers of certain transmission tube geometry. Those pressure data collected by spark-plug type pressure transducer were tested for correction to flush mounted ones by the application of transfer function. As a result of the calibration the IMEP difference between F/M data and improved S/P data was shown to be corrected about 75-98% from the original ones.

  • Current and capacitance-voltage characteristics of tunnel field effect transistor (TFET) with various quantum models were investigated. Density gradient, Bohm quantum potential (BQP), and Vandort quantum correction are used with calibrating against Schrodinger-Poisson model. Drive-currents in all models. are decreased. When only BQP is used, SS and $V_{onset}$ are fixed but drive-current is decreased 3 times more than those of no quantum model. And When BQP with Vandort and density gradient are used, SS increased more than 40 mV./dec and $V_{onset}$ shifted as 0.07 eV.

  • The lens distortions were corrected directly using the high-order polynomial which was offered in camera calibration data for the forward transformation and the root of Newton-Raphson's $2\times{2}$ nonlinear system for the backward transformation. The 0.04~0.08 pixels increase in accuracy was indicated through the use of direct correction of lens distortions instead of least square methods of commercial software. The least square adjustment method of high-order polynomial requires many control points which has a same weight. But this suggested method which is unnecessary to determine control points was developed and applied. The algorithm showed improved efficacy.

  • Satellite imagery may contain large regions covered with atmospheric aerosol. A highresolution satellite imagery affected by non-homogenous aerosol cover should be processed for land cover study and perform the radiometric calibration that will allow its future application for Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT) data. In this study, aerosol signal was separated from high resolution satellite data based on the reflectance separation method. Since aerosol removal has a good sensitivity over bright surface such as man-made targets, aerosol optical thickness (AOT) retrieval algorithm could be used. AOT retrieval using Look-up table (LUT) approach for utilizing the transformed image to radiometrically compensate visible band imagery is processed and tested in the correction of satellite scenery. Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), EO-l/HYPERION data have been used for aerosol correction and AOT retrieval with different spatial resolution. Results show that an application of the aerosol detection for HYPERION data yields successive aerosol separation from imagery and AOT maps are consistent with MODIS AOT map.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) geometric models are introduced to correct vignetting, and a downhill simplex search is applied to determine the coefficients of a 3D model used in digital microscopy. Vignetting is nonuniform illuminance with a geometric regularity on a two-dimensional (2D) image plane, which allows the illuminance distribution to be estimated using 3D models. The 3D models are defined using generalized polynomials and arbitrary coefficients. Because the 3D models are nonlinear, their coefficients are determined using a simplex search. The cost function of the simplex search is defined to minimize the error between the 3D model and the reference image of a standard white board. The conventional and proposed methods for correcting the vignetting are used in experiments on four inspection systems based on machine vision and microscopy. The methods are investigated using various performance indices, including the coefficient of determination, the mean absolute error, and the uniformity after correction. The proposed method is intuitive and shows performance similar to the conventional approach, using a smaller number of coefficients.

  • Coincidence summing correction effects are known to be greater as the efficiency of the detector increases and as the distance between the source and the detector increases. A point source($^{60}Co$) was used to vary the distance in the direction of the detector's center axis and in the radial direction to obtain the P/T ratio for Coincidence summing correction calibration. In this study, values for coincidence summing corrected calibration of the values in the central and radial directions were applied to the mixed volume source(450 ml CRM source) to compare the overall peak efficiency change according to P/T with Geant4. In addition, the efficiency obtained from the mapping method is applied to the seaweed, a marine sample, and the compatibility of the P/T ratio with the detector and sample very dose together. The efficiency corrected to 1,836 keV was applied to the energy zone affected by the efficiency of 500 keV and the relative error of the measured and corrected values was well matcched by the 3.2 % peak efficiency correction. As with 450 mL CRM source, the larger the volume, the lower the P/T ratio was by ${\pm}5%$. This is due to the increased scattering of gamma-rays emitted as the source becomes farther away from the detector, and this change in P/T has been confirmed to affect the Coincidence summing corrected peak efficiency.

  • These days, Uncooled IR Systems are more popular in the area of defense and aerospace than before. Uncooled IR Systems are widely used as core technology for making unmanned systems and detecting enemy objects during the day and night in the distance. Recently, researches on TEC-less IRFPA have been increased to minimize the power consumption and to make a smaller system than before. For this, it needs to find adequate NUC(Non-Uniformity Correction) coefficients as FPA(Focal Plane Array) temperature changes. In this paper, we propose a new NUC coefficient estimating technique, DCCE-LI(Dynamic Calibration Coefficients Estimation with Linear Interpolation), for TEC-less IRFPA. It is based on a linear interpolation method and it can estimate NUC coefficients in real-time. So, by testing and evaluating it with some IR images, we conclude that the quality of IR images using proposed method is better than applying static coefficients.
