Graphing Calculator's Impact on Students' Exploration in Senior High School

  • In this paper we investigated the influence on school students when they use graphing calculator for exploration, including their experience of exploration, their ability and attitudes. After using graphing calculator based mathematics exploration course, two students were interviewed and 162 students who finished the course in these years were investigated. The results show that graphing calculator is a useful tool to develop students' explorative ability. Most of students had positive attitudes to and were interested in making use of graphing calculator.

실용수학 교과서의 계산기 관련 단원 내용 비교 분석 (Analysis and comparison on the Contents including Calculator Use in Applied Mathematics Textbook)

  • In the seventh mathematics curriculum, the use of technological tools including calculator and computer are generally recommended through the seventh subjects related to mathematics emphasized, and especially in 'Applied Mathematics' subject, their use are more strongly emphasized and reflected. The total four kinds of textbooks of Applied Mathematics includes contents on their use. This study investigates what are contents on calculator use, how they are developed and constructed in Applied Mathematics Textbook. Furthermore, this study is focused on the analysis and comparison on those factors of four kinds of textbooks. Based on these results, this study ultimately hope to suggest how effectively calculator use be developed and constructed in textbook both in Applied Mathematics and the other mathematics subjects.

  • The research was aimed at finding the dynamic aspects of the linguistic and social interaction with mathematical concept development using a graphing calculator in collaborative learning. This study was broadly divided into two categories: "Knowledge Construction Statement" for understanding how the verbal interaction works when a graphing calculator is used, and "Teacher's Instructional Role" for the research on the reaction of the students and on the teacher's role as a guide in helping students to construct their knowledge. This research used a case study in a collaborative learning environment. An attempt was made to show clearly how the students interacted with one another in a technology environment using a graphing calculator as a tool. A graphing calculator promoted the students' linguistic interaction and changed the characteristics of the linguistic interaction. Although it didn't show the different aspects completely, some changes of the linguistic traits were perceived.aits were perceived.

  • The purpose is this study is to investigate the children's, parents's, teachers consciousness to the use of calculator in mathematics loaming and to analyze the effect of the problem solving and computation ability. The results obtained by this research are as follows: (1) Most adults using calculator by computation tool. but they believed that if children use calculator, computation abilities might be reduced. (2) By using the calculator, We can do the followings : \circled1 to expand the computational ability from written computation to both mental computation and computational estimation, \circled2 to reinforce the problem solving abilities, \circled3 to obtain the interest and the curios on mathematics loaming. Therefore, we must endeavor actively for the broad usage of calculator in the mathematics class

  • 본 논문은 그래픽 계산기를 활용한 이산수학의 ‘행렬과 그래프’개념의 이해과정에 관한 연구이다. 본 연구의 목적을 위해 우리는 TI-92 계산기를 활용하여 ‘행렬과 그래프’ 개념을 학습해 가는 두 명의 중학생을 조사하였다. 이 과정에서 우리는 켐코더나 녹음기를 활용하여 질적자료를 수집하였으며 이 자료들을 테크놀로지에 관한 학생들의 태도, 용어의 의미 이해, 행렬 연산의 이해 과정, 수학적 의사소통 등으로 범주화하였다. 이로부터 우리는 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 학생들은 그래픽 계산기를 활용하여 행렬의 의미와 역할을 그들 스스로 탐구하였으며 계산기는 이 과정에서 훌륭한 학습동반자 역할을 수행하였다. 둘째, 탐구과정에서 학생들이 오류를 범했을 때 그래픽 계산기가 에러메시지를 곧바로 출력함으로써 학생들의 자기주도적 학습을 가능하게 하였다. 셋째, 계산기는 교사와 학생들간, 혹은 학생들 사이의 수학적 의사소통을 강화시키는 역할을 하였다.

초등학교 수학교육에 있어서 계산기 활용에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Use of Calculatios in Elementary School Mathematics)

  • It is the purpose of this study that is to examine the practice and awareness on the use of calculator and to find the method to utilize the calculator as the tool in elementary school mathematics. Recently, it is recommendes strongly to use technical tools such as calculator and computer for the quiltative development on mathematics education. But we prohibite the usage of calculator and do not have the policy to use the calculator in our country because we have little understanding about it. The following direction for educational development is focused not on the repeat learning through the written computation, but on the ability for students to choose an operator and to perform the task with their own objects and strategies. By using the calculator, We can do the followings : 1)to help the mathematical concept develop, 2)to expand the computational ability from written computation to both mental computation and computational estimation, 3)to use the practical value in the problem situation, 4)to reinforce the problem solving, 5)to obtain the interest and the confedence on mathematics. Therefore, we must endevor actively for the broad usage of calculator in the mathematics class.

그래픽 계산기를 활용하는 수학 교수·학습에 관한 교사 연수 사례 보고 (A case report of teacher training for teaching and learning mathematics using graphing calculators)

  • In this study, we focused on the graphing calculator to support the activity-oriented mathematics instruction with considering the accessibility of technology. The purpose of this study was to investigate the direction of the education of mathematics teachers. For this, we gave the teacher training for mathematics using graphing calculators for secondary mathematics teachers, and then examined the recognition for that of teachers. Teacher training of the graphing calculator was carried out three times in two years, we conducted a survey immediately at the time that has passed and after the 8 months or more after the training. As a result, we have obtained the suggestions of the advantages of using a graphing calculator in the learning mathematics, the difficulties of use of the graphing calculator in the classroom and the form of teacher training they want.

Programmable Calculator에 의(依)한 Cupola의 열정산(熱精算) (The Cupola Heat Balance Using Programmable Calculator)

  • In this paper, the cupola heat balance has been carried out by using programmable calculator with BASIC language. Computers tend to be used in almost every fields but for many people, computers are not handy yet because of its high equipment cost and its difficult language system. In view of this fact, a desk-top or a hand-held programmable calculator is the pertinent device in its calculation speed, accuracy, and easy programming language (BASIC), let alone its low cost. There have been some attempts to apply them to the foundry,${^{1),2)}}$ but they are little in number. This paper is the first attempt to apply the programmable calculator to the calculation of the cupola heat balance. After several applications in some practicalcases, the program has resulted in very satisfactory results such as saving of time and accuracy.

저탄소 경로 모형을 활용한 2050년 한국의 온실가스 감축 시나리오 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of Scenarios for Reducing GHG Emissions in Korea by 2050 Using the Low Carbon Path Calculator)

  • The Low Carbon Path Calculator is an excel-based model to project greenhouse gas emissions from 2009 to 2050, which is based on the 2050 Pathways Calculator developed by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). Scenarios are developed to reduce GHG emissions in Korea at 50% based on 2005 levels by 2050 using a Low Carbon Path Calculator. They were classified in four different cases, which are high renewable, high nuclear, high CCS and mixed option scenarios. The objectives of this study are to compare scenarios in terms of GHG emissions, final energy, primary energy and electricity generation and examine the usefulness of that model in terms of identifying pathways towards a low carbon emission society. This model will enhance the understanding of the pathways toward a low carbon society and the level of the climate change policy for policy makers, stakeholders, and the public. This study can be considered as a reference for developing strategies in reducing GHG emissions in the long term.

초등 영재 학생의 비례 추론 발달 단계에 따른 계산기 사용에 대한 행위 분석 (Analysis on Behaviors of Using Calculator Based on Developmental Stage of Proportional Reasoning of Gifted Elementary Students)

  • 본 연구는 초등학교 5학년 수학 영재 학급 학생 8명을 대상으로 계산기를 활용하여 정비례에 대한 수업의 질적 자료를 바탕으로 계산기 사용 행위를 분석하였다. 학생들의 비례 추론 발달 단계를 알아보기 위해 설문지 문항으로 사전 검사를 하였고, Baxter & Junker(2001)에 따라 비례 추론 발달 단계를 분류하였다. 계산기를 활용한 정비례 활동지를 제작하였으며 60분 동안 연구자에 의해 수업이 진행되었다. 자료 분석을 위해 동영상 촬영, 인터뷰 등을 수집하여 녹취록을 작성하였고, Guin & Trouche(1999)의 계산기 사용 행위 유형에 기초하여 학생들의 행위를 분석하였다. 본 연구 결과에 따르면 비례 추론 발달의 각 단계에서 계산기 사용 행위 유형은 다양하게 나타났으며, 이러한 각 행위는 학생들의 비례 추론 발달에 서로 다른 영향을 주었다.
