  • Submarine cable is the most important IT infrastructure for international communication across oceans. However, a cable fault rarely happens by ship's anchor, fishing gears, submarine earthquake, and so on, and we need to improve on repair time for the reducing expenses of cable repair ship as well as the stability of high-capacity submarine optical network. There are several kinds of cable faults such as Shunt fault, Cable cut, Open fault and Fiber break. When a fault is occurred, cable landing stations(CLS) have to analysis failure quickly and accurately to find the type and the location of a cable fault. During the repair period, CLS should swiftly perform the tests requested by cable repair ship. In order to make rapid progress on cable repair, CLS test technique is very important. So, in order to reduce the repair time, this paper is studying the CLS test techniques of locating a submarine cable fault and of checking the splicing point performed by cable repair ship.

  • If you are installing communications cables in the pipeline based on the kind of cable installation tension within the allowed range of the tension must be maintained. The tension of the installation affected by the cable types, cable jacketed status, cross-sectional shape of the pipeline, the substance present in the pipeline, pipeline linear, the direction of the cable is installed. Depending on the size of the cable installation tension fatal influence on the quality of communication, or, at worst, the cable can be cut. In this paper, test bed for building a pipeline and using optical cable and such cable tension was measured. Freedom of access to the pipeline used in the experiment, and installed in conjunction with the cable tension was measured. It possible for the cable installation to determine whether a duplicate, and have compared the actual measured tension value and the theoretical expression.

  • We performed impact test to estimate necessary explosive charge weight for cutting the cable whose diameter is 22 mm. The impact test results were analyzed by Probit method. The cutting energy was calculated 37.7 J with 99.99% probability at 99% reliability compared to the average energy of 24.9 J. The cable was cut 3 times without failure with 150 mg of Zirconium Potassium Perchlorate (ZPP), which was considered to generate 24.5 J of mechanical energy with assumption that only 10% of explosive energy converts to mechanical energy. The calculated energy from measured pressure with 150 mg ZPP was 26.1 J, which is almost same with both impact test result and expected mechanical energy. We can argue that the cable can be cut with 99.99% probability at 99% reliability by 230 mg of ZPP.

  • Recently, underground transmission system is growing continuously according to the electric power demand increase in the downtown area. Even if domestic cable makers are manufacturing 154kV oil filled cable and joint, the design technology of cable-joint has not been fully self-reliance. This study is aimed at the detail heat transfer analysis of 154kV cable-joint. So, that is cut into the five sections in order to analyze a conjugate natural convection in two dimensional $r-{\theta}$ coordinate. The streamline and temperature distributions are obtained for each sections. Also the changes of those are analyzed with respect to the variation of transmission currents and cable-joint surface heat transfer coefficients. The same analyses are also shown in view point of the maximum temperature of conductor and local equivalent conductivity.

  • In recent years, the shape of ship building have been advanced. Thus the system is complex and cable is much used in ship. In this paper, Dijkstra algorithm is used to solve the shortest path of cable laying. Cable laying is given much weight in fable management system of ship. The developed cable management system is cut down on expenses and is improve the operation efficiency for ship building. Therefore, the developed cable management system can be used a support system in order to achieve a management target of company.

  • As the high-speed data communications such as xDSL using the existing copper cable come into wide use, the electromagnetic coupling characteristics of telecommunication cables become more significant. In order to describe the screening performance of telecommunication cable, the transfer impedance of cable shield is required. This paper describes the transfer impedance for two types of telecommunication cables using the line injection method of IEC 96-1. Results are analyzed to show how the materials of cable shields, the positioning of the injection line and of the inner conductor of the CUT(Cable Under Test) affect the value of transfer impedance. We then propose the transfer impedance model of telecommunication cable based on the measurements.

  • Many studies have been done on the application of residual charge measurement in cable degradation diagnosis. In this paper, the behavior of residual charges measured with water-tree degraded XLPE sheets and cable are discussed. At charge injection process, the charge is injected by applying dc voltage as a conventional method, suddenly cut-off ac voltage or impulse voltage. Therefore the residual charge is influenced by the applying process. At charge release process, transient dc current flows when applying ac high voltage and also ac high voltage superimposed to dc low voltage. From the results, new diagnosis method is suggested.

  • Mostly, water leakage took place in construction joints. In case of cable tunnels constructed by open-cut method, waterstops have been used to prevent the water leakage. But, we haven't any experience to install the waterstops in NATM cable tunnels. So, it is necessary to develope the waterstops and test the performance of it in laboratory. We manufactured cable tunnel lining quarter scale model by pouring concrete, and installed the waterstops. After filling the inside of concrete lining about two-third with water, we put the air pressure on the water, In addition, it is also carried out water leakage test for concrete lining model without waterstops. As a result, we confirmed the performance of waterstops and its adaptability. It is also tested that the performance of rubber gaskets used in concrete segments of Shield tunnelling. In addition, we determined the allowable infiltration rate for cable tunnel with non-drainage system.

  • The optical submarine cable has a long distance cable and the repeater for optical amplification compared to territorial optical cable so conventional OTDR utilization for the optical submarine cable is limited. in case the optical core in the optical submarine cable system cut, by using Coherent OTDR that utilize OTDR path in repeater the cable fault point can be detected and in case the faulty of the copper tube in the cable that provide power for the repeater to amplify optical signal, the ways using the current/voltage characteristic, the capacitance per Km and so on is required. this report suggest efficient fault location detecting mechanism by categorized cable fault type.

  • When insulators are operated near cement factories, some amount of cement powder may be stuck on the surface of insulators and decreases their electrical performances. Three kinds of insulators, such as, silicone EPDM and porcelain insulators, are tested in this paper. Testing Voltage of 25kV is applied to the samples, and surface leakage current is measured for 6 months after cement solvent of 10 vol% was stuck on the surface of each insulator in the laboratory. Insulation layers are cut from 3 and 6 month-aged insulators and tested for ac breakdown, impulse breakdown, contact angle. After aging, electrical properties are unchanged in silicone and EPDM insulators but show some changes in porcelain insulators.
