Heat and Flow Analysis on Cabin Room of Battle Tank (전차 포탑 승무원실의 내부 열/유동장에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • The heavy thermal load to battle tanks can cause electronic components' malfunction and crew to be put out of action. The thermal load is generated from Internal heat sources such as electronic devices installed in the room as well as extremely hot weather. In this study, heat and flow analysis for the cabin room of a battle tank was performed to deal with this thermal problem. This study presented the validation of simulation results in comparison with those of test, the investigation of optimal flow design for effective cooling in cabin room and finally the evaluation of thermal comforts to crew.

  • The present work focuses on the evaluation of thermal comfort in passenger cabin of a cruise ship. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD(Airpak)) is used to calculate air velocity and temperature distribution in the passenger cabin as well as PMV and PPD. The CFD is used to simulate two different cases, room unit system and wardrobe duct system. Both of cases are simulated in summer environment condition. The room unit system and wardrobe duct system are compared and evaluated by ISO 7730 thermal comfort categories. The performance of room unit system is shown to be more effective for this typical case of passenger cabin.

Degradation Characteristics of Eutectic and Pb-free Solder Joint of Electronics mounted for Automotive Engine (자동차 엔진룸용 전장품 유무연 솔더 접합부의 열화특성)

  • Due to environmental regulations (RoHS, WEEE and ELV) of the European Union, electronics and automotive electronics have to eliminate toxic substance from their devices and system. Especially, reliability issue of lead-free solder joint is increasing in car electronics due to ELV (End-of-Life Vehicle) banning from 2016. We have prepared engine control unit (ECU) modules soldered with Sn-40Pb and Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu (SAC305) solders, respectively. Degradation characteristics of solder joint strength were compared with various conditions of automobile environment such as cabin and engine room. Thermal cycle test (TC, $-40^{\circ}C$ ~ ($85^{\circ}C$ and $125^{\circ}C$), 1500 cycles) were conducted with automotive company standard. To compare shear strength degradation rate with eutectic and Pb-free solder alloy, we measured shear strength of chip components and its size from cabin and engine ECU modules. Based on the TC test results, finally, we have known the difference of degradation level with solder alloys and use environmental conditions. Solder joints degradation rate of engine room ECU is superior to cabin ECU due to large CTE (coefficient of thermal expansion) mismatch in field condition. Degradation rate of engine room ECU is 50~60% larger than cabin room electronics.

  • Unit cabin means room, which is installed in the high value ship such as drill ship and FPSO, after pre-assembled. In order to develop the noise control design for a unit cabin, a variety of acoustic tests such as sound absorption, transmission, and radiated noise measurements were carried out by using the mock-up of living quarter. From the tests, it was found out that the combined noise level of a unit cabin could be dominated by the radiated noise from wall panel in low frequency range and the design guidelines for the noise control of unit cabin were fully established, such as the improvement of sound transmission loss between the cabin and corridor, and radiated cabin noise reduction.

  • Unit cabin means room, which is installed in the high value-added vessel such as drill ship, offshore platform and FPSO, after pre-assembled. In order to develop the noise control design for a unit cabin, a variety of acoustic tests such as sound absorption, transmission and radiation measurements were carried out by using the deckhouse mock-up. From the tests, it was found out that the sound transmission loss between cabin and corridor was 13 dB below than FPSO standard and the combined noise level of the unit cabin was dominated by the radiated noise from wall panel in low frequency range. Based on the test results, design guidelines for the noise control of the unit cabin were fully established, such as the improvement of sound transmission loss between the cabin and corridor, and radiated cabin noise reduction.

  • The sound field can be classified to the direct and reverberant sound field. If the sound absorption material in a room is not applied sufficiently, the reverberant sound field increases and the sound pressure in a room also increases when the sound source exists in a room. Therefore, the reverberation time should be controled in order to reduce the reverberant sound as well as sound pressure level in a room. Even though the reverberation time is specified and researched widely in architectural engineering, it is rarely performed in a marine engineering. Therefore, in this research, the reverberation time in a navel vessel is researched related to the noise reduction in a cabin.

  • In a wheel loader, the tail-pipe is installed at the exhaust tube of muffler for the reduction of exhaust noise and the cooling of engine room however, the cabin noise level can be largely increased due to the tail-pipe. In this paper, to grasp and reduce the cabin noise, a series of noise and vibration tests were carried out in addition to numerical simulations. As a result, the transmission path of exhaust noise toward the cabin was exactly identified and the improved shape of tail pipe, that can reduce the cabin noise, was derived through various numerical simulations and real tests.

A Study on the Radiating Source of Electro-magnetic Waves in the Cabin of Automobile (자동차 실내의 전자파 복사원에 관한 연구)

  • This paper investigates the radiating source of electro-magnetic waves in the cabin of automobile with spark ignition engine. Front seats are very close to the engine room where electro-magnetic waves are expected to be radiating. But front seat area is believed to be a blind zone, which is not affected by radiating electro-magnetic waves, because a bulk board and floor board shield the front seat area. The level and frequency spectrum of electro-magnetic waves are measured at the passenger seat and the engine room. The measured frequency range is $145{\sim}365MHz$. As a results, the level of the electro-magnetic waves of automatic transmission vehicle is greater than -82dBm. The shapes of frequency spectrum of both engine room and passenger seat are look alike. But the level of electro-magnetic waves of manual transmission vehicle is less than -82dBm and the shapes of frequency spectrum of engine room and passenger seat are different to each other. From these results, we can say that any mal-function caused by electro-magnetic waves in the automobile cabin are only possible for automatic transmission vehicle. Also, it is believed that the radiating source of electro-magnetic waves is inside the vehicle. Thus, based on the transmission line theory, this paper presumably concludes that the cables which connect all the components inside a automatic transmission vehicle must be a radiating source of electro-magnetic waves in the cabin.

  • The purpose of this study is to measure and evaluate the thermal conditions of large cruiser's cabin. As the result of this study, followings are cleared. The air volume supplied to the 2 types of cabins is quite diffenrent. Temperature differences in the Room A which is located A deck and supplied enough air volume is stable all around the cabin. But Room B which is located B deck and supplied comparatively small air volume has temperature distribution problems, like time-dependent differences, vertical differences. To serve more comfort and productivity of Room B, it is strongly recommended to do a T.A.B.(Testing, Adjusting and Balancing) for more air volume and/or to design new air flow path to make air stay longer.
