Development of Android App for Suppor ting Smooth Multimedia Streaming Service Using Frame Buffer (프레임 버퍼를 이용한 매끄러운 멀티미디어 스트리밍 서비스를 지원하는 안드로이드 앱 개발)

  • Existing Android applications for streaming video in real time are dependent on the codec, which composes the encoding function, and the version of Android operating system. Also, for streaming video in real time, most applications should be connected with a separate desktop PC. To overcome these disadvantages, we propose a new application, which records and streams video in real time. Specifically, the proposed application uses the flash video file format, which is the common media file format supported by various versions of Android operating system. Through experiments, we show that it is possible for the proposed application to record the video screens more than 20 frames per second and to stream it in real time while using the existing video encoding methods.

  • Recently, Development of high-speed internet networks can be a real-time video conference system. SD-quality still images using the software codec system exists, and two-way system with mobile systems, but in most video only send and receive video system. In this study, HD web-cam using the two-way live broadcasts simultaneously in the education system and the mobile system has developed an audible system. In the study using the H.264 standard video compression techniques were applied to high-bandwidth compression technology, smart phones, to develop a streaming server for broadcasting were applied. Video sharing, document, web-sharing was made possible in real time. In addition, the private IP for WiFi zone, available anytime, anywhere that can be converted to a public IP technology, IP tunneling technology applied.

Scheme for Reducing HEVC Intra Coding Complexity Considering Video Resolution and Quantization Parameter (비디오 해상도 및 양자화 파라미터를 고려한 HEVC의 화면내 부호화 복잡도 감소 기법)

  • To expedite UHD (Ultra High Definition) video service, the HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) technology has recently been standardized and it achieves two times higher compression efficiency than the conventional H.264/AVC. To obtain the improved efficiency, however, it employs many complex methods which need complicated calculation, thereby resulting in a significantly increased computational complexity when compared to that of H.264/AVC. For example, to improve the coding efficiency of intra frame coding, up to 35 intra prediction modes are defined in HEVC, but this results in an increased encoding time than the H.264/AVC. In this paper, we propose a fast intra prediction mode decision scheme which reduces computational complexity by changing the number of intra prediction mode in accordance with the percentage of PU sizes for a given video resolution, and by classifying the 35 intra prediction modes into 4 categories considering video resolution and quantization parameter. The experimental results show that the total encoding time is reduced by about 7% on average at the cost of only 2% increase in BD-rate.

  • Recently, various applications using real-time face detection have been developed as face recognition technology and hardware grows. While network service is developing and video instruments costs lower, it is needed that smart surveillance camera and service using network camera based on IP and face detection technology. However, videos should be compressed for reducing network bandwidth and storage capacity in surveillance system. As it requires high-level improvement of system performance when all the compressed frames are processed in a face detection program, fast face detection method is needed. In this paper, not only a fast way of algorithm using Haar like features and adaboost learning and motion information but also an application on broadcast system is suggested.

Scrambling Technology using Scalable Encryption in SVC (SVC에서 스케일러블 암호화를 이용한 스크램블링 기술)

  • With widespread use of the Internet and improvements in streaming media and compression technology, digital music, video, and image can be distributed instantaneously across the Internet to end-users. However, most conventional Digital Right Management are often not secure and not fast enough to process the vast amount of data generated by the multimedia applications to meet the real-time constraints. The SVC offers temporal, spatial, and SNR scalability to varying network bandwidth and different application needs. Meanwhile, for many multimedia services, security is an important component to restrict unauthorized content access and distribution. This suggests the need for new cryptography system implementations that can operate at SVC. In this paper, we propose a new scrambling encryption for reserving the characteristic of scalability in MPEG4-SVC. In the base layer, the proposed algorithm is applied and performed the selective scambling. And it encrypts various MVS and intra-mode scrambling in the enhancement layer. In the decryption, it decrypts each encrypted layers by using another encrypted keys. Throughout the experimental results, the proposed algorithms have low complexity in encryption and the robustness of communication errors.

Real-time Stereo Video Generation using Graphics Processing Unit (GPU를 이용한 실시간 양안식 영상 생성 방법)

  • In this paper, we propose a fast depth-image-based rendering method to generate a virtual view image in real-time using a graphic processor unit (GPU) for a 3D broadcasting system. Before the transmission, we encode the input 2D+depth video using the H.264 coding standard. At the receiver, we decode the received bitstream and generate a stereo video using a GPU which can compute in parallel. In this paper, we apply a simple and efficient hole filling method to reduce the decoder complexity and reduce hole filling errors. Besides, we design a vertical parallel structure for a forward mapping process to take advantage of the single instruction multiple thread structure of GPU. We also utilize high speed GPU memories to boost the computation speed. As a result, we can generate virtual view images 15 times faster than the case of CPU-based processing.

The Modeling of the Optimal Data Format for JPEG2000 CODEC on the Fixed Compression Ratio (고정 압축률에서의 JPEG2000 코덱을 위한 최적의 데이터 형식 모델링)

  • Recently, images/videos have been preferred as the communication media because of their information-implication and easy recognizability. But the amount of their data is so large that it has been the major research area to compress their data. This paper is related to optimization in th image data format, which can make a great effect in performance of data compression and is based on the wavelet transform and JPEG2000. This paper established a criterion to decide the data format to be used in wavelet transform, which is on the bases of the data errors in frequency transform and quantization. This criterion has been used to extract the optimal data format experimentally. The result were(1, 9) of 10-bit fixed-point format for filter coefficients and (9, 7) of 16-bit fixed-point data dormat for wavelet coefficients and their optimality was confirmed.

  • Combing through entire video files for the purpose of recognizing and retrieving matching movies requires much time and memory space. Instead, most current similar movie-matching methods choose to analyze only a part of each movie's video-image information. Yet, these methods still share a critical problem of erroneously recognizing as being different matching videos that have been altered only in resolution or converted merely with a different codecs. This paper proposes an audio-information-based search algorithm by which similar movies can be identified. The proposed method prepares and searches through a database of movie's spectral peak information that remains relatively steady even with changes in the bit-rate, codecs, or sample-rate. The method showed a 92.1% search success rate, given a set of 1,000 video files whose audio-bit-rate had been altered or were purposefully written in a different codec.

  • Nowadays, video technology has been successfully improved creating tremendous results. As video technology improve, multimedia devices and demands from users are diversified. Therefore, a video codec used in these devices should support various displays with different resolutions. The technology to generate a higher resolution image from the associated low-resolution image is called interpolation. Interpolation is generally performed in either the spatial domain or the DCT domain. To use the advantages of both domains, we have proposed the new adaptive interpolation algorithm based on edge direction, which adaptively exploits the advantages of both domains. The experimental results demonstrate that our algorithm performs well in terms of PSNR and reduces the blocking artifacts.

Design and Implementation of a Realtime Video Player on Tiled-Display System (타일드-디스플레이 시스템에서 실시간 동영상 상영기의 설계 및 구현)

  • This paper presents a design and implementation of realtime video player that operates on a tiled-display system consisting of multiple PCs to provide a very large and high resolution display. In the proposed system, the master process transmits a compressed video stream to multiple PCs using UDP multicast. All slaves(PC) receive the same video stream, decompress, clip their designated areas from the decompressed video frame, and display it to their displays while being synchronized with each other. A simple synchronization mechanism based on the H/W clock of each slave is proposed to avoid the skew between the tiles of the display, and a flow-control mechanism based on the bit-rate of the video stream and a pre-buffering scheme are proposed to prevent the jitter The proposed system is implemented with Microsoft DirectX filter technology in order to decouple the video/audio codec from the player.
