With a large number of documents appearing on the web, document-level novelty detection has become important since it can reduce the efforts of finding novel documents by discarding documents sharing redundant information already seen. A recent work proposed a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based novelty detection model with significant performance improvements. We observed that it has a restriction of using document-level information in determining novelty but assumed that the document-level information is more important. As a solution, this paper proposed two methods of effectively incorporating document-level information using a CNN-based novelty detection model. Our methods focus on constructing a feature vector of a target document to be classified by extracting relative information between the target document and source documents given as evidence. A series of experiments showed the superiority of our methods on a standard benchmark collection, TAP-DLND 1.0.
In this manuscript, a new pansharpening model based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) was developed. Dilated convolution, which is one of the representative convolution technologies in CNN, was applied to the model by making it deep and complex to improve the performance of the deep learning architecture. Based on the dilated convolution, the residual network is used to enhance the efficiency of training process. In addition, we consider the spatial correlation coefficient in the loss function with traditional L1 norm. We experimented with Dilated Residual Networks (DRNet), which is applied to the structure using only a panchromatic (PAN) image and using both a PAN and multispectral (MS) image. In the experiments using KOMPSAT-3A, DRNet using both a PAN and MS image tended to overfit the spectral characteristics, and DRNet using only a PAN image showed a spatial resolution improvement over existing CNN-based models.
Limited materials to make coins for countries and designs suitable for hand-carry make the shape, size, and color of coins similar. This similarity makes that it is difficult for visitors to identify each country's coins. To solve this problem, we propose the coin classification method using CNN effective to image processing. In our coin identification method, we collect the training data by using web crawling and use OpenCV for preprocessing. After preprocessing, we extract features from an image by using three CNN layers and classify coins by using two fully connected network layers. To show that our model designed in this paper is effective for coin classification, we evaluate our model using eight different coin types. From our experimental results, the accuracy for coin classification is about 99.5%.

In this paper, we propose a method for diagnosing ball bearing vibration using transfer learning. STFT, which can analyze vibration signals in time-frequency, was used as input to CNN to diagnose failures. In order to rapidly learn CNN-based deep artificial neural networks and improve diagnostic performance, we proposed a transfer learning-based deep learning learning technique. For transfer learning, the feature extractor and classifier were selectively learned using a VGG-based image classification model, the data set for learning was publicly available ball bearing vibration data provided by Case Western Reserve University, and performance was evaluated by comparing the proposed method with the existing CNN model. Experimental results not only prove that transfer learning is useful for condition diagnosis in ball bearing vibration data, but also allow other industries to use transfer learning to improve condition diagnosis.

In this paper, we propose a CNN-based swimmer detection algorithm. Every year, water safety accidents have been occurred frequently, and accordingly, intelligent video surveillance systems are being developed to prevent accidents. Intelligent video surveillance system is a real-time system that detects objects which users want to do. It classifies or detects objects in real-time using algorithms such as GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model), HOG (Histogram of Oriented Gradients), and SVM (Support Vector Machine). However, HOG has a problem that it cannot accurately detect the swimmer in a complex and dynamic environment such as a beach. In other words, there are many false positives that detect swimmers as waves and false negatives that detect waves as swimmers. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a swimmer detection algorithm using CNN (Convolutional Neural Network), specialized for small object sizes, in order to detect dynamic objects and swimmers more accurately and efficiently in complex environment. The proposed CNN sets the size of the input image and the size of the filter used in the convolution operation according to the size of objects. In addition, the aspect ratio of the input is adjusted according to the ratio of detected objects. As a result, experimental results show that the proposed CNN-based swimmer detection method performs better than conventional techniques.

The cellular neural networks have the circuit structure that differs from the form of general neural network. It consists of an array of the same cell which is a simple processing element, and each of the cells has local connectivity and space invariant template property. In this paper, time-multiplex image processing technique is applied for processing large images using small size CNN cell block, and we simulate the edge detection of a large image using the simulator implemented with a c program and matlab model. A 5$\times$5 CNN hardware and pre post processor is also implemented and is under test.

This paper introduces a pilot allocation scheme for massive MIMO systems based on deep convolutional neural network (CNN) learning. This work is an extension of a prior work on the basic deep learning framework of the pilot assignment problem, the application of which to a high-user density nature is difficult owing to the factorial increase in both input features and output layers. To solve this problem, by adopting the advantages of CNN in learning image data, we design input features that represent users' locations in all the cells as image data with a two-dimensional fixed-size matrix. Furthermore, using a sorting mechanism for applying proper rule, we construct output layers with a linear space complexity according to the number of users. We also develop a theoretical framework for the network capacity model of the massive MIMO systems and apply it to the training process. Finally, we implement the proposed deep CNN-based pilot assignment scheme using a commercial vanilla CNN, which takes into account shift invariant characteristics. Through extensive simulation, we demonstrate that the proposed work realizes about a 98% theoretical upper-bound performance and an elapsed time of 0.842 ms with low complexity in the case of a high-user-density condition.

The performance of deep learning-based malware detection and classification models depends largely on how to construct a feature set to be applied to training. In this paper, we propose an approach to select the optimal feature set to maximize detection performance for CNN-based Android malware detection. The features to be included in the feature set were selected through the Chi-Square test algorithm, which is widely used for feature selection in machine learning and deep learning. To validate the proposed approach, the CNN model was trained using 36 characteristics selected for the CICANDMAL2017 dataset and then the malware detection performance was measured. As a result, 99.99% of Accuracy was achieved in binary classification and 98.55% in multiclass classification.
Clouds are composed of tiny water droplets, ice crystals, or mixtures suspended in the atmosphere and cover about two-thirds of the Earth's surface. Cloud detection in satellite images is a very difficult task to separate clouds and non-cloud areas because of similar reflectance characteristics to some other ground objects or the ground surface. In contrast to thick clouds, which have distinct characteristics, thin transparent clouds have weak contrast between clouds and background in satellite images and appear mixed with the ground surface. In order to overcome the limitations of transparent clouds in cloud detection, this study conducted cloud detection focusing on transparent clouds using machine learning techniques (Random Forest [RF], Convolutional Neural Networks [CNN]). As reference data, Cloud Mask and Cirrus Mask were used in MOD35 data provided by MOderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and the pixel ratio of training data was configured to be about 1:1:1 for clouds, transparent clouds, and clear sky for model training considering transparent cloud pixels. As a result of the qualitative comparison of the study, bothRF and CNN successfully detected various types of clouds, including transparent clouds, and in the case of RF+CNN, which mixed the results of the RF model and the CNN model, the cloud detection was well performed, and was confirmed that the limitations of the model were improved. As a quantitative result of the study, the overall accuracy (OA) value of RF was 92%, CNN showed 94.11%, and RF+CNN showed 94.29% accuracy.

This paper proposes an image processing system based on the Convolution Neural Network technique. The image classification was performed using the composite neural network model and the images were classified with accuracy of 84% or more. The proposed system is implemented to operate on various platforms. When the system is used in the classification of images, the efficiency is higher because it is higher than the accuracy of the existing model.
