  • The relativistically parameterized Extended Huckel (REX) calculations are carried out for $[M(NH_3)_5Cl]^{2+}$ (M = Cr, Co, Ru, Rh, Os, Ir). The calculated orbital and overlap populations agree with experimental data. The REX calculations on the electronic structure have been also compared with nonrelativistic EHT results. A ${\phi}$-bonding in M-Cl bond is founded to be more important for the $d^3$, $d^5$complexes than the $d^6$ system.

  • Response surface model was developed for predicting the growth rates of Salmonella enterica sv. Typhimurium in tryptic soy broth (TSB) medium as a function of combined effects of temperature, pH, and NaCl. The TSB containing six different concentrations of NaCl (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10%) was adjusted to an initial of six different pH levels (pH 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10) and incubated at 10 or $20^{\circ}C$. In all experimental variables, the primary growth curves were well $(r^2=0.900\;to\;0.996)$ fitted to a Gompertz equation to obtain growth rates. The secondary response surface model for natural logarithm transformations of growth rates as a function of combined effects of temperature, pH, and NaCl was obtained by SAS's general linear analysis. The predicted growth rates of the S. Typhimurium were generally decreased by basic (9, 10) or acidic (5, 6) pH levels or increase of NaCl concentrations (0-8%). Response surface model was identified as an appropriate secondary model for growth rates on the basis of coefficient determination $(r^2=0.960)$, mean square error (MSE=0.022), bias factor $(B_f=1.023)$, and accuracy factor $(A_f=1.164)$. Therefore, the developed secondary model proved reliable predictions of the combined effect of temperature, NaCl, and pH on growth rates for S. Typhimurium in TSB medium.

  • The changes in the rheological properties of soybean curd upon the processing conditions were measured by the failure test, and analyzed by the stress-relaxation data. Soybean curd coagulated with $CaCl_2$ showed a higher failure stress value than other coagulants such as $MgCl_2,\;CaSO_4\;and\;Glucono-{\delta}-lactone$ (GDL), whereas addition of 0.3% $CaCl_2$ produced higher failure stress value than other concentrations $0.2{\sim}0.6%)$. Also, maximum failure stress of soybean curd was shown at the higher heating temperatures$(95^{\circ}C)$ and greater molding pressures, respectively. Initial and equilibrium stress at the stress relaxation curves showed the same tendency as those of failure test, and magnitude of elastic elements$(E_0,\;E_e)$ and viscous element$({\eta})$ were numerically expressed through simple Maxwell model analysis.

  • Continuous operation for 24h was carried out to establish the optimum condition at the magnesium fused salt electrolysis using a self made 150 ampere mono-polar type cell. An electrolyte composition of $MgCl_2$ 25%, NaCl 55%, $CaCl_2$ 19%, $CaF_2$ 1% was electrolyzed with applied voltage 7V, cathode current density $0.7-0.75A/cm^2$, electrode distance 6cm at $720{\sim}740^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. Changes of applied current, composition of the electrolyte, current efficiency were investigated. Through the experiments, there were not any operating troubles with the self-made electrolytic cell. Purity of the electrolyzed magnesium metal was above 99%, and 89% of current efficiency was achieved. Some basic data for scale-up of the magnesium electrolysis equipment which would be necessary for commercialization were obtained.

  • The polymeric compound [{$W(NO)_2Cl_2$}$_n$] were prepared by reductive nitrosylation of $WNaNO_2$ and acidified $WFeSO_4$ with $WWCl_6$ at room temperature. The reactions of [{$W(NO)_2Cl_2$}$_n$] with unidentate and bidentate ligands afforded neutral monomeric [$W(NO)_2Cl_2L_2$(or L-L)] in a relative high yields (70$\sim$90%). 3,5-lutidine, ${\gamma}$-cyanopyridine, 1,2-phenylenediamine, 1,10-phenanthroline, sym-diphenylethylenediamine, 9,10-phenanthrenequinone, 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane, 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene and 8-hydroxyquinoline were used as coordinating ligands. These dinitrosyltungsten complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, $^1H$-NMR, infrared, and UV-visible spectroscopy are reported. The spectral data indicated that geometric structures of the products were cis-dinitrosyl-trans-dichloro-cis-$L_2$ of $C_{2v}$ symmetry.

  • $Ge_{2}Sb_{2}Te_5$(GST) thin film at present is a promising candidate for a phase change random access memory (PCRAM) based on the difference in resistivity between the crystalline and amorphous phase. PCRAM is an easy to manufacture, low cost storage technology with a high storage density. Therefore today several major chip in manufacturers are investigating this data storage technique. Recently, A. Pirovano et al. showed that PCRAM can be safely scaled down to the 65 nm technology node. G. T Jeonget al. suggested that physical limit of PRAM scaling will be around 10 nm node. Etching process of GST thin ra films below 100 nm range becomes more challenging. However, not much information is available in this area. In this work, we report on a parametric study of ICP etching of GST thin films in $Cl_2$/Ar chemistry. The etching characteristics of $Ge_{2}Sb_{2}Te_5$ thin films were investigated using an inductively coupled plasma (ICP) of $Cl_2$/Ar gas mixture. The etch rate of the GST films increased with increasing $Cl_2$ flow rate, source and bias powers, and pressure. The selectivity of GST over the $SiO_2$ films was higher than 10:1. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) was performed to examine the chemical species present in the etched surface of GST thin films. XPS results showed that the etch rate-determining element among the Ge, Sb, and Te was Te in the $Cl_2$/Ar plasma.

  • Repeated injections of low-doses of mercuric chloride in rats or mice induce polyclonal activation which includes the induction of anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies and circulating immune complex and it results in nephritis. Because this disease is autoimmune mediated disease resulted from immune dysfunction, immunomodulators are used to control the symptoms or to cure the disease. Irpex lacteus Fr. is a kind of new medicinal fungus. The polysaccharide fraction extracted from submerged fermentation of Irpex lacteus Fr. decreased the serum agglutinin, serolysin and IgM plaque forming cells in normal mice. The hitherto obtained clinical results suggested that it significantly improved the oligourea, edema, and hypertension in patients who have nephritis. To elucidate the action-mechanisms of Irpex lacteus Fr., we established the experimental model of HgCl$_2$induced polyclonal activation by intraperitoneal administrations of HgCl$_2$to mice. To assess the immunomodulating effect of Irpex lacteus fraction, we Investigated its effects on the mitogen induced proliferation and IgM PFC counts of splenic lymphocytes in mice during the treatment of HgCl$_2$. The Irpex lacteus polysaccharide reduced the abnormally increased mitogen induced Iymphocyte proliferation and IgM PFCs to almost normal levels. And the Irpex lacteus polysaccharides prevented the increasement of serum immunoglobulin level induced by HgCl$_2$. These data suggested that the Irpex lacteus polysaccharides might have the immunomodulating activity to prevent and /or improve the HgCl$_2$ induced autoimmune disease.

  • $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ was synthesized by reacting $C_9H_7NH$ with chromium (VI) trioxide. The structure of the product was characterized by FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared) spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The oxidation of benzyl alcohol by $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ in various solvents showed that the reactivity increased with increasing dielectric constant(${\varepsilon}$) in the following order: DMF (N,N'-dimethylformamide) > acetone > chloroform > cyclohexane. The oxidation of alcohols was examined by $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ in DMF. As a result, $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ was found to be an efficient oxidizing agent that converts benzyl alcohol, allyl alcohol, primary alcohols, and secondary alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes or ketones (75%-95%). The selective oxidation of alcohols was also examined by $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ in DMF. $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ was the selective oxidizing agent of benzyl, allyl and primary alcohol in the presence of secondary ones. In the presence of DMF with an acidic catalyst, such as $H_2SO_4$, $C_9H_7NHCrO_3Cl$ oxidized benzyl alcohol (H) and its derivatives ($p-OCH_3$, $m-CH_3$, $m-OCH_3$, m-Cl, and $m-NO_2$). Electron donating substituents accelerated the reaction rate, whereas electron acceptor groups retarded the reaction rate. The Hammett reaction constant (${\rho}$) was -0.69 (308K). The observed experimental data were used to rationalize hydride ion transfer in the rate-determining step.

  • During flight the analysis of aircraft data recorded has played an important role in determining the causes of accidents. However, using the QAR, recently some airlines have begun to analyze flight data from uneventful airline flights to identify potential problems and correct them before they lead to accident. This paper, after the flight using the recorded data in QAR, proposes an estimated method which determines CL/CD values. The generalized aircraft dynamic equations were expressed as an estimated equation, which verified the effectiveness with simulation. The results of the present method showed that the understand of variation values of CL/CD is of great use for performance enhancement.

  • We present the deep homogeneous UBV RI photometric data of 135,071 stars down to V ~ 23 mag and I ~ 22 mag toward the Carina Nebula. These stars are cross-matched with those from the previous surveys in the X-ray, near-infrared, and mid-infrared wavelengths as well as the Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3). This master catalog allows us to select reliable members and determine the fundamental parameters distance, size, stellar density of stellar clusters in this star-forming region. We revisit the reddening toward the nebula using the optical and the near-infrared colors of early-type stars. The foreground reddening [E(B-V)fg] is determined to be 0.35 ± 0.02, and it seems to follow the standard reddening law. On the other hand, the total-to-selective extinction ratio of the intracluster medium (RV,cl) decreases from the central region (Trumpler 14 and 16, RV,cl ~ 4.5) to the northern region (Trumpler 15, RV,cl ~ 3.4). It implies that the central region is more dusty than the northern region. We find that the distance modulus of the Carina Nebula to be 11.9 ± 0.3 mag (d = 2.4 ± 0.35 kpc) using a zero-age main-sequence fitting method, which is in good agreement with that derived from the Gaia EDR3 parallaxes. We also present the catalog of 3,331 pre-main-sequence (PMS) members and 14,974 PMS candidates down to V ~ 22 mag based on spectrophotometric properties of young stars at infrared, optical, and X-ray wavelengths. From the spatial distribution of PMS members and PMS candidates, we confirm that the member selection is very reliable down to faint stars. Our data will have a legacy value for follow-up studies with different scientific purposes.
