유해가스 배출량에 대한 시계열 예측 모형의 비교연구 (A Comparison Study of Forecasting Time Series Models for the Harmful Gas Emission)

  • With global warming and pollution problems, accurate forecasting of the harmful gases would be an essential alarm in our life. In this paper, we forecast the emission of the five gases(SOx, NO2, NH3, H2S, CH4) using the time series model of ARIMA, the learning algorithms of Random forest, and LSTM. We find that the gas emission data depends on the short-term memory and behaves like a random walk. As a result, we compare the RMSE, MAE, and MAPE as the measure of the prediction performance under the same conditions given to three models. We find that ARIMA forecasts the gas emissions more precisely than the other two learning-based methods. Besides, the ARIMA model is more suitable for the real-time forecasts of gas emissions because it is faster for modeling than the two learning algorithms.

  • Sensing properties of $\alpha$-Fe2O3 thin film to reducing gases such as CHx and CO were systematically examined after deposition on Al2O3 substrate by PECVD(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition)technique. Microstructure of deposited $\alpha$-Fe2O3 thin film showed the porous island structure. This specimen was annealed at 450, 550, $650^{\circ}C$ to enhance the gas sensing properties and investigated in terms of CO and C4H10 concentration from 500ppm to 3,000 ppm at operating temperature of 35$0^{\circ}C$ The gas sensitivity(%) to C4H10 measured at the operating temperature of 35$0^{\circ}C$ was 98.24 (highest sensitivity) 69.51 to CO and 2% to CH4 respectviely.

산소부화 압축착화기관을 이용한 메탄으로부터 수소 생산 (Hydrogen Gas Production from Methane Reforming Using Oxygen Enriched Compression Ignition Engine)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the reforming characteristics and maximum operating condition for the hydrogen production by methane reforming using the compression ignition engine induced partial oxidation. An dedicated compression engine used for methane reforming was decided operating range. The partial oxidation reforming was investigated with oxygen enrichment which can improve hydrogen production, compared to general reforming. Parametric screening studies were achieved as $O_2/CH_4$ ratio, total flow rate, and intake temperature. When the variations of $O_2/CH_4$ ratio, total flow rate, and intake temperature were 1.24, 208.4 L/min, and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively, the maximum operating conditions were produced hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Under the condition mentioned above, synthetic gas were $H_2\;22.77{\sim}29.22%,\;CO\;21.11{\sim}23.59%$.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Live Cells Decreased In vitro Methane Production in Intestinal Content of Pigs

  • An in vitro gas production technique was used in this study to elucidate the effect of two strains of active live yeast on methane ($CH_4$) production in the large intestinal content of pigs to provide an insight to whether active live yeast could suppress $CH_4$ production in the hindgut of pigs. Treatments used in this study include blank (no substrate and no live yeast cells), control (no live yeast cells) and yeast (YST) supplementation groups (supplemented with live yeast cells, YST1 or YST2). The yeast cultures contained $1.8{\times}10^{10}$ cells per g, which were added at the rates of 0.2 mg and 0.4 mg per ml of the fermented inoculum. Large intestinal contents were collected from 2 Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire pigs, mixed with a phosphate buffer (1:2), and incubated anaerobically at $39^{\circ}C$ for 24 h using 500 mg substrate (dry matter (DM) basis). Total gas and $CH_4$ production decreased (p<0.05) with supplementation of yeast. The methane production reduction potential (MRP) was calculated by assuming net methane concentration for the control as 100%. The MRP of yeast 2 was more than 25%. Compared with the control group, in vitro DM digestibility (IVDMD) and total volatile fatty acids (VFA) concentration increased (p<0.05) in 0.4 mg/ml YST1 and 0.2 mg/ml YST2 supplementation groups. Proportion of propionate, butyrate and valerate increased (p<0.05), but that of acetate decreased (p<0.05), which led to a decreased (p<0.05) acetate: propionate (A: P) ratio in the both YST2 treatments and the 0.4 mg/ml YST 1 supplementation groups. Hydrogen recovery decreased (p<0.05) with yeast supplementation. Quantity of methanogenic archaea per milliliter of inoculum decreased (p<0.05) with yeast supplementation after 24 h of incubation. Our results suggest that live yeast cells suppressed in vitro $CH_4$ production when inoculated into the large intestinal contents of pigs and shifted the fermentation pattern to favor propionate production together with an increased population of acetogenic bacteria, both of which serve as a competitive pathway for the available H2 resulting in the reduction of methanogenic archaea.

BMP test를 통한 음폐수와 하수슬러지의 병합소화 특성 평가 (Anaerobic Co-Digestion Characteristics of Food Waste Leachate and Sewage Sludge)

  • 혐기성 소화의 주요 조건 중 하나인 C/N비의 경우 하수슬러지는 5.40으로 낮게 나타난 반면 음폐수(Food waste leachate)는 21.84로 높게 나타났다. C/N비가 낮을 경우 혐기성소화의 저해 요인으로 작용될 수 있기 때문에 음폐수의 높은 유기물 농도 및 C/N 비를 활용하여 메탄가스 발생량 증가시킬 수 있었다. Tchobanoglous이 제안한 이론적 메탄가스 발생량 예측수식을 적용하여 메탄 및 바이오가스 발생량을 산정한 결과 하수슬러지 단일 혐기소화의 경우 $305.6mL{\cdot}CH_4/g{\cdot}VS$, $689.4mL{\cdot}CH_4/g{\cdot}VS$의 메탄, 바이오가스가 발생하였고 음폐수 : 하수슬러지를 1:9로 혼합한 시료는 약 $322mL{\cdot}CH_4/g{\cdot}VS$, 3:7시료에서는 약 $354mL{\cdot}CH_4/g{\cdot}VS$, 5:5시료에서는 약 $386mL{\cdot}CH_4/g{\cdot}VS$의 메탄가스가 발생하는 것으로 분석되었다. BMP 실험 결과 1:9, 3:7, 5:5 비율로 병합 처리한 경우 각각 약 233, 298, $344mL{\cdot}CH_4/g{\cdot}VS$의 메탄가스가 발생하였다. 따라서 음폐수의 혼합비율이 높아질수록 메탄가스 발생량은 증가하였고 하수슬러지와 음폐수의 혼합비율에 따른 병합처리 시 하수슬러지 단독처리에 비해 다량의 메탄가스가 발생되었다. BMP 실험을 통해 생산된 메탄가스의 누적생산 곡선을 Modified Gompertz model과 first order kinetic model에 적용하여 추정한 결과, 메탄생성량은 Modified Gompertz model에서는 238.5, 302.3, $353.6mL/g{\cdot}VS$ 발생하였고 first order kinetic model에서는 242.8, 312.5, $365.5mL/g{\cdot}VS$로 음폐수와의 혼합비율이 증가할수록 높게 나타났으며, 최대 메탄생성속도의 경우 3:7비율에서 $48.2mL/gVS{\cdot}day$로 최대 메탄생성 속도를 보였다. first order kinetic model의 1차 반응속도상수 k값은 1:9, 3:7, 5:5 비율에 따라 0.32, 0.22, $0.08day^{-1}$ 나타났다. 1차 반응속도 상수의 경우 음폐수의 혼합비율이 낮을수록 높게 나타났다. Modified Gompertz와 first order kinetic model 모두 실험결과를 잘 모사하였으며, 실험결과와 모의결과의 적합도를 나타내는 상관계수($R^2$)의 경우 0.92~0.98으로 높은 상관성을 나타내었다.

SnO2 Hollow Hemisphere Array for Methane Gas Sensing

  • We developed a high-performance methane gas sensor based on a $SnO_2$ hollow hemisphere array structure of nano-thickness. The sensor structures were fabricated by sputter deposition of Sn metal over an array of polystyrene spheres distributed on a planar substrate, followed by an oxidation process to oxidize the Sn to $SnO_2$ while removing the polystyrene template cores. The surface morphology and structural properties were examined by scanning electron microscopy. An optimization of the structure for methane sensing was also carried out. The effects of oxidation temperature, film thickness, gold doping, and morphology were examined. An impressive response of ~220% was observed for a 200 ppm concentration of $CH_4$ gas at an operating temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ for a sample fabricated by 30 sec sputtering of Sn, and oxidation at $800^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr in air. This high response was enabled by the open structure of the hemisphere array thin films.

유클리디언 거리 기반의 단계적 소거 방법을 통한 화학센서 어레이 성능 최적화 (A Step-wise Elimination Method Based on Euclidean Distance for Performance Optimization Regarding to Chemical Sensor Array)

  • In order to prevent drink-driving by detecting concentration of alcohol from driver's exhale breath, twenty chemical sensors fabricated. The one of purposes for sensor array which consists of those sensors is to discriminate between target gas(alcohol) and interference gases($CH_3CH_2OH$, CO, NOx, Toluene, and Xylene). Wilks's lambda was presented to achieve above purpose and optimal sensors were selected using the method. In this paper, step-wise sensor elimination based on Euclidean distance was investigated for selecting optimal sensors and compared with a result of Wilks's lambda method. The selectivity and sensitivity of sensor array were used for comparing performance of sensor array as a result of two methods. The data acquired from selected sensor were analyzed by pattern analysis methods, principal component analysis and Sammon's mapping to analyze cluster tendency in the low space (2D). The sensor array by stepwise sensor elimination method had a better sensitivity and selectivity compared to a result of Wilks's lambda method.

Rumen fermentation, methane production, and microbial composition following in vitro evaluation of red ginseng byproduct as a protein source

  • The main objective of this in vitro study was to evaluate red ginseng byproduct (RGP) as a protein resource and its effects on rumen fermentation characteristics, microflora, CO2, and CH4 production in ruminants. Four treatments for in vitro fermentation using buffered rumen fluid over a 48 h incubation period were used: 1, RGP; 2, corn gluten feed (CGF); 3, wheat gluten (WG); and 4, corn germ meal. In vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), in vitro neutral detergent fiber digestibility (IVNDFD), in vitro crude protein digestibility (IVCPD), volatile fatty acids, pH, and ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) were estimated after 48 h incubation. Gas production was investigated after 3, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 h. The CO2 and CH4 were evaluated after 12, 24, 36, and 48 h. A significant difference in total gas production and CO2 emissions was observed (p < 0.01) at all incubation times. CH4 production in RGP were higher (p < 0.05) than that in other treatments but a higher CH4 portion in the total gas production was observed in WG (p < 0.05) at 48 h incubation. The IVDMD, IVNDFD, and IVCPD of RGP was lower than those of other conventional ingredients (p < 0.01). The RGP had the lowest NH3-N value among the treatments (p < 0.01). The RGP also had the lowest total VFA concentration (p < 0.01), but presented the highest acetate proportion and acetate to propionate ratio among the treatments (both, p < 0.01). The abundance of Prevotella ruminicola was higher in RGP than in WG (p < 0.01), whereas RGP has lower methanogenic archaea (p < 0.01). In conclusion, based on the nutritive value, IVDMD, low NH3-N, and decreased methanogenic archaea, RGP inclusion as a protein source in ruminant diets can be an option in replacing conventional feed sources.

대향류 화염에서 FGR이 적용된 저공해 연소의 수치적 해석: Part II. NOx 생성기구 분석 (Numerical Investigation of Low-pollution Combustion with applying Flue Gas Recirculation in Counterflow Flames: Part II. Analysis of NOx formation mechanism)

  • 배기가스 재순환(flue gas recirculation, 이하 FGR)은 질소산화물 저감에 효과적인 연소 기법으로 저공해 연소 분야에 다양하게 응용되고 있다. 이전 연구에 이어서 메탄/공기 대향류 예혼합화염에 FGR 기법 적용 시 나타나는 화염의 특성 변화 및 NOx 생성기구를 파악하기 위한 수치해석이 진행되었다. 배출되는 질소산화물(NOx)은 4가지 주요 반응경로(열적 NO, prompt NO, N2H 및 N2O)로 구분하여 배기가스 재순환율에 따른 각 NO 생성률을 상대적으로 나타내었다. 그 결과 열적 NO가 전체 NO 형성에 가장 크게 차지한 반면 N2H의 영향은 미미하였다. 또한, 열적 NO의 기여를 검토하기 위하여 본 연구에 사용된 반응기구(UC San Diego mechanism)를 수정하여 재순환율 증가에 따른 NO 배출지수(EINO)를 비교하였다.

사용종료된 비위생매립지의 매립가스 안정화 평가 - 살미매립지 사례연구 - (Assessment on Stabilization of Open-dumping Landfill Gas - A Case Study of Salmi Landfill -)

  • For managing and utilizing a closed municipal solid waste landfill site in environmentally secure conditions, it is necessary to verify the stabilization level of landfill gas(LFG) and waste. For assessing LFG and waste stabilization of an open-dumping municipal solid waste landfill (Salmi Landfill) which is located at the vicinity of Chungju Reservoir which flows into Paldang Reservoir that has been used for Seoul Metropolitan water supplies, the history and the surrounding characteristics of the landfill site were surveyed. In this study, waste and LFG samples obtained from landfill site were physically and chemically analyzed, and then the analysis results were evaluated on the basis of 'The Criteria of Landfill Waste Stabilization(CLWS)' that were promulgated by Korean Ministry of Environment. Based on LFG composition of Salmi landfill, $CH_4$ was as high as 68%. In CLWS regulation, the stabilization criteria of $CH_4$ should be lower than 5%, and the criteria of C/N ratio should also be lower than 1/10. The result showed that C/N ratio of landfilled waste ranged 17.4~24.7. From this results, it was concluded that the LFG and C/N ratio stabilization level of this landfill based on the CLWS were still actively proceeding.
