  • The purpose of this paper is to find out the factors responsible for purchase of LED (light-emitting-diodes) bulbs & tubes among Indian consumers and how much they are ready to replace their existing lighting system with LED fittings. A multiple regression model has been employed to investigate the factors affecting the buying decision of LED lamps in place of CFL and incandescent lamps. Eleven motives for adopting LED lamps has been identified viz. price, quality, energy saving, durability, brand, promotion, CSR, & environmental consciousness. In addition the effect of demographic variables like gender, age, household income on the purchasing decision of LED has also been examined. A total 150 respondents were contacted visiting different outlet of electrical shops of Northern Delhi. The study may helpful for the companies to decide their marketing strategies to promote LED Lamps among the consumers with an aim to save energy and save environment.

  • Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder and is expected to become more and more widespread as life expectancy increases. New therapeutic target, as well as the identification of mechanisms responsible for pathology, is urgently needed. Recently, microglial actin cytoskeleton has been proposed as a beneficial role in axon regeneration of brain injury. This review highlights in understanding of the characteristics of microglial actin cytoskeleton and discuss the role of specific actin-interacting proteins and receptors in AD. The precise mechanisms and functional aspects of motility by microglia require further study, and the regulation of microglial actin cytoskeleton might be a potential therapeutic strategy for neurological diseases.

  • Studies of the numerical characteristics of implicit upwind schemes, such as upwind ADI, Line Gauss-Seidel(LGS) and Point Gauss-Seidel(LU) algorithms, for preconditioned Navier-Stokes equations ate performed. All the algorithms are expressed in approximate factorization form and Von Neumann stability analysis and convergence studies are made. Preconditioning is applied for efficient convergence at low Mach numbers and low Reynolds numbers. For high aspect ratio computations, the ADI and LGS algorithms show efficient and uniform convergence up to moderate aspect ratio if we adopt viscous preconditioning based on min- CFL/max- VNN time-step definition. The LU algorithm, on the other hand, shows serious deterioration in convergence rate as the grid aspect ratio increases. Computations for practical applications also verify these results.

  • In an attempt to investigate the nonlinear dynamics such as shock, shear, and turbulence associated with ultra-relativistic jets, we develop a new relativistic hydrodynamics (RHD) code based on the weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme. It is a 5th-order accurate, finite-difference scheme, which has been widely used for solving hyperbolic systems of conservation equations. The code is parallelized with MPI and OpenMP. Through an extensive set of tests, the accuracy and efficiency of different WENO reconstructions, and different time discretizations are assessed. Different implementations of the equation of state (EOS) for relativistic fluid are incorporated, As the fiducial setup for simulations of ultra-relativistic jets, we adopt the EOS in Ryu et al. (2006) to treat arbitrary adiabatic index of relativistic fluid, the WENO-Z reconstructions to minimize numerical dissipation without loss of stability, and the strong stability preserving Runge-Kutta (SSPRK) method to achieve stable time stepping with large CFL numbers. In addition, the code includes a high-order flux averaging along the transverse directions for multi-dimensional problems, and the modified eigenvalues for the acoustic modes to effectively control the carbuncle instability. We find that the new code performs satisfactorily simulations of ultra-relativistic jets.

  • The aim of this study is to make an education satisfaction assessment tool in university. For this, the related study, researchers meeting were conducted and 20 university students were involved in checking items, and then inventory items were completed. The pilot test was conducted at university in Choongnam Province for EFA(Exploratory Factor Analysis by using outcome data. From them, 4 sub-areas and 12 factors were consisted. The 4 sub-areas are education method, education contents, education environment, and education outputs. The education method is composed of appropriateness and fairness of classroom activities, the education contents are composed of systemization of education contents, the diversity and quality of education contents, and the effectiveness of education contents. The education environment is configured as educational facilities and environment, educational supporting service and administrative services. For content validity, items which adapted over 0.90 S-CVI : Standard Content Validity Index. To 48 inventory items obtained proper contents validity and reliability, measurement of suitability of verification was conducted. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ of reliability test has emerged as highly 0.987. In CFA(Complimentary Factor Analysis), CFGFI, CFL, TLI, RMSEA, NFI indexes show a good value, therefore, this assessment tool for educational satisfaction in university is suitable for measuring tool.

  • We developed a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code to reproduce the structure of a solar wind, the properties of a coronal mass ejection (CME) and the interaction between them. This MHD code is based on the finite volume method incorporating total variation diminishing (TVD) scheme with an unstructured grid system. In particular, this grid system can avoid the singularity at the north and south poles and relax tight CFL conditions around the poles, both of which would arise in a spherical coordinate system (Tanaka 1994). In this model, we first apply an MHD tomographic method (Hayashi et al. 2003) to interplanetary scintillation (IPS) observational data and derive a solar wind from the physical values obtained at 50 solar radii away from the Sun. By comparing the properties of this solar wind to observational data obtained near the Earth orbit, we confirmed that our model captures the velocity, temperature and density profiles of a solar wind near the Earth orbit. We then insert a spheromak-type CME (Kataoka et al. 2009) into the solar wind to reproduce an actual CME event. This has been done by introducing a time-dependent boundary condition to the inner boundary of our simulation domain. On the basis of a comparison between a simulated CME and observations near the Earth, we discuss the physics involved in an ICME interacting with a solar wind.

  • Numerical characteristics of implicit upwind schemes, such as upwind ADI, line Gauss-Seidel (LGS) and point Gauss-Seidel (LU) algorithms, for Navier-Stokes equations have been investigated. Time-derivative preconditioning method was applied for efficient convergence at low Mach/Reynolds number regime as well as at large grid aspect ratios. All the algorithms were expressed in approximate factorization form and von Neumann stability analysis was performed to identify stability characteristics of the above algorithms in the presence of high grid aspect ratios. Stability analysis showed that for high aspect ratio computations, the ADI and LGS algorithms showed efficient damping effect up to moderate aspect ratio if we adopt viscous preconditioning based on min-CFL/max-VNN time-step definition. The LU algorithm, on the other hand, showed serious deterioration in stability characteristics as the grid aspect ratio increases. Computations for several practical applications also verified these results.

  • In order to develop a LED luminaire for naval-submarines which can replace a conventional one with two-compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) of 18 W, we analyzed the electrical and optical performance of the conventional luminaire. A LED luminaire was fabricated as compact as possible based on the analyzed data. The weight of the prototype LED luminaire is 1.8 kg, reducing up to 58% of the conventional one. The use of LED package for the submarine luminaire could reduce the power consumption from 38 W to 14.5 W with the same optical performance. The reason is that the optical efficacy of the LED luminaire improved by 2.47 times as 61.9 lm/W, compared to 25.1 lm/W for the conventional one.

  • Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae strains, which cause canker disease in kiwifruit, were collected from kiwifruit orchards in Korea and identified using biochemical and physiological tests. The nucleotide sequences of the 16s rDNA and 16s-23s internally transcribed spacer of the isolates were found to be Identical to those of' the pathotype strain, Kwl 1, of P syringae pv. actinidiae. Remarkably, no coding sequence for phaseolotoxin biosynthesis or phaseolotoxin- resistant ornithine carbamoyltransferase was found by PCR amplification in any of the new Korean isolates of pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae, although this was clearly identified in the control pathotype Kwl 1 reference strain. In contrast, three primer sets derived from the coronatine biosynthetic gene cluster and DNA from the Korean strains yielded amplified DNA fragments of the expected size. A sequence analysis of the PCR products revealed that P. syringae pv. actinidiae and the Korean strains of pv. actinidiae contain coronafncate ligase genes (cfl)with identical sequences, whereas their. corR genes exhibited 91% sequence similarity. The production of coronatine, instead of phaseolotoxin, by the Korean strains of P. syringae pv. actinidiae was confirmed by a bioassay using reference pathovars known to produce coronatine and phaseolotoxin. The genes for coronatine biosynthesis in the Korean strains of P. syringae pv. actinidiae were found to be present on plasmids.
