Capsaicin Increases Swimming Endurance Capapcity in High-Fat-Fed Mice

  • Increase in fat mobilization by capsaicin(CAP) was investigated in high-fat-fed mice using an adjustable current water pool. Male ICR 7-wk-old mice were fed a high fat diet [50% total energy content in the diet(E%) fat, 20 E% protein, 30E% carbohydrate] for 2 wk and one group (HCAP) was orally administered CAP at 2 h before swimming. After being accustomed to swimming , the mice were subjected to forced swimming every 2d in the current water pol and the total swimming period until exhaustion was measured . The total swimming period was used as index of swimming capacity. Swimming time to exhaustion of treated mice was significantly longer than that of the high-fat-fed control group (100.2$\pm$10.6 vs. 58.0$\pm$8.5min, P<0.01) after 2wk of training. The concentration of serum-free fatty scids gradually increased up to 2 h in CAP -administered mice. The perirenal adipose tissue weight of CAP -administered mice (HCAP) before swimming was lower than that of the high-fat-fed mice adminstered placebo solution (HP) which had not ingested CAP during the 2 wk. These results suggest that the increase of swimming capacity of CAP-administered high-fat-fed mice was due to an increase of fat mobilization that was induced by CAP.

Experimental Study on the Shear Capacity of Continuous Cap-Type Shear Connector (연속 캡 형상 전단연결재의 전단 내력에 관한 실험 연구)

  • The push-out tests have been conducted on the specimens which consist of the steel beam with U-shape section and the continuous cap-type shear connector. Existing formulas for the elevation of shear connector capacity were investigated on the basis of test results. The shear capacities of continuous cap-type shear connectors distinctly declined as the diameters of side-hole in the shear connector increased. The rebars through side-hole for the transverse reinforcement improved the shear capacity of continuous cap-type connector by 20 to 30 percent. It was not feasible to obtain the appropriate capacity values of continuous cap-type shear connectors made of thin steel plate like those of in this study, using the existing formulas. The new formula for reflecting the shear strength of penetrative bars was proposed based on the shear equation of Eurocode 4. The slip capacities of continuous cap-type shear connectors were shown to exceed the limit value of 6mm for the sufficiently ductile behavior.

Growth and Fruit Characteristics of Mini Watermelon in Different Cultivation Types and Plant Spacings (미니수박의 재배유형과 재식거리에 따른 생육 및 과실특성)

  • Recently, the interest and consumption of mini watermelon (Citrullus lunatus Thunb.) are increasing due to nuclear family and one person household. However, there's no research for mini watermelon. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to develop standard cultivation method of mini watermelon. The test cultivar is 'Minimi', which is a small-sized fruit, the rootstock is 'Bullojangsaeng', which is a cucurbit line. Grafted plants were transplanted on April 5, 2017, and harvested in early July. Cultivated types were 3 methods, which are ${\cap}-form$, arched, and runner type, and plant spacing were 40, 60, and 80 cm, respectively. The rowth and yield in ${\cap}-form$ was higher than that of the arched and runner types, and the sugar content was higher a bit. The yield per unit area was about 50% higher than ${\cap}-form$, which can be plant density cultivation than that of the runner type. The number of seeds per fruit of 'Minimi' was similar to that of 'Sambokggul', but seed weight was one third lower than that of 'Sambokggul'. The content of lycopene was 30% higher than that of 'Sambokggul' watermelon, and the main sugar content is similar to or slightly less. In conclusion, the ${\cap}-form$ staking cultivation was superior to the runner type or arched cultivation in terms of fruit setting ratio, yield and quality.

  • Rotation-powered pulsars are excellent laboratories for studying particle acceleration as well as fundamental physics of strong gravity, strong magnetic fields and relativity. Particle acceleration and high-energy emission from the polar caps is expected to occur in connection with electron-positron pair cascades. I will review acceleration and gamma-ray emission from the pulsar polar cap and associated slot gap. Predictions of these models can be tested with the data set on pulsars collected by the Large Area Telescope on the Fermi Gamma-Ray Telescope over the last four years, using both detailed light curve fitting, population synthesis and phase-resolved spectroscopy.

  • The effect of unbonded capping system on high strength concrete(400~600kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$), with respect to both ø10$\times$20 and ø15$\times$30cm specimens, has been investigated in accordance with ASTM C 1231 and our procedures based on the existing studies. Tests show that the ratios of test results obtained using unbonded cap to grinding system are 1.02 in both cylinder sizes. Also, based on the results of ø10$\times$20cm specimens using unbonded cap and ø15$\times$30cm specimens using grinding system, it has been proposed that the use of the former has to spread throughout whole laboratories in field.

  • The Angle Ring and Cap which is called pressboard are settled at primary and secondary coil winding of 154 kV transformer that can reduce effectively distance of insulation. As it has not manufactured pressboard of Angle Ring and Cap for high voltage grade, insulation components industry especially high voltage transformer has not participate in a competition with worldwide yet. That's why is difficult to make an specialized shape of insulation components of high voltage grade. At first, it is very important to make an utility of deformation manufacturing for high voltage transformer insulation components by itself. Therefore it has finally completed to make an deformation manufacturing utility using an special analysis tools. In this paper, developed insulation components was investigates in tensile strength is introduced.

Cultural Conditions for Mass Production of Antagonistic Bacillus subtills CAP134 (길항균 Bacillus subtillis CAP134의 대량생산을 위한 배양조건)

  • Cultural conditions for mass production of the antagonistic bacteria, Bacillus subtills CAP134 against pathogens causing major airborne diseases to apple tree, effect of temperature, pH, carbon and nitrogen source in the culture broth were investigated. The bacterial growth was most vigorous when the temperature and pH of the culture broth was 30~$35^{\circ}$C, and 7, respectively. As for carbon source, dextrose was best followed in order by dextrose(monosaccharides)>sucrose(disaccharides)$\geq$saccharose(di-saccharides)>starch (polysaccharides). Among different sugars, bacterial growth was favored by in the order of brown, black and white sugars, indicating that the bacterial growth might be promoted by the minor elements presented as impurities in the less purified sugars. As for nitrogen source, organic forms were better to bacterial growth than inorganic forms, that is polypeptone was best followed in order by soy sauce, soybeen milk and inoganic nitrogens. Differences in bacterial growth among different forms of inorganic nitrogen were negligible.

  • In this study, the ellipsoidal cap type magnetic pole structure was proposed for the electro-magnet in B-H curve tracer. From the simulation for the electro-magnet without specimen, the area of effective uniform field(99% range for the central field value) was considerably increased in case of the newly proposed ellipsoidal cap type magnetic pole than that of the conventional simple-inclined cap type magnetic pole. Also, through the simulation for the electro-magnet with permanent magnet specimen(NaFe30), the optimal Positions of the magnetic field measurement sensor(Hall sensor) were found out in each case and the errors were decreased in case of the newly proposed ellipsoidal cap type magnetic pole.
