Antl-Lock Brake System Control for Buses Based on Fuzzy Logic and a Sliding-Mode Observer

  • In this paper an anti-lock brake system (ABS) for commercial buses is proposed based on a fuzzy-logic controller and a sliding-mode observer of the vehicle speed. The brake controller generates pulse width modulated (PWM) control inputs to the solenoid valve of each brake, as a function of the estimated wheel slip ratio. PWM control inputs at the brakes significantly reduce chattering in the brake system compared with conventional on-off control inputs. The sliding-mode observer estimates the vehicle speed with measurements of wheel speed, which is then sed to compute the wheel slip ratio. The effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm is validated by a series of computer simulations of bus driving, where the 14-DOF bus model is used.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the voltage stability when the contingency is occured in the power system. The evaluation of voltage stability is examined by the system identification based on T/L losses and percent indicator which represents how relatively far-off from the voltage collapse. When contingency happens, the bus voltages can be calculated using the EMTP and then, the time-interval in contingency is linearized between the known operating points in nose curves. For the sample study, the 5-bus and 7-bus systems are selected and, countermeasures for the contingency are established in view of the voltage stability.

Development of Optimal Number of Bus-stops Estimation Model Based on On-Off Patterns of Passengers (버스승객의 승하차 패턴을 고려한 최적 정류장 수 산정 모형 개발)

  • At present, Korean many cities depend on subjective judgements of experts to estimate the number of bus-stops and inter-stop space. To get reliable results by using more objective procedure, we search for old studies and models, but they don't concern alighting demands and a random demand distributions. Our study recognize and overcome these limitation. We devide the demand into boarding and alighting demands, and define the model that can estimate flexibly optimal number of bus-stop and inter-stop space on each segment by the demand distribution. Also we apply this new model to a simple example route having various demand distributions As a result, the number of bus-stop on each segment can be estimate flexibly in proportion to boarding or alighting demand by using this model.

  • When a node in automotive CAN bus is hacked, such node should be blocked to prevent severe danger in the car. In order to do that, such node should be uniquely identified. However, there is no way to identify individual nodes in a CAN bus. In this paper, a physical layer security method is proposed where individual nodes are identified by assigning unique ID to the nodes during booting process. The proposed method was implemented in a CAN controller using Verilog HDL, and it is verified that the node ID auto-setting and internal attack defense are successfully performed.

Design Space Exploration for NoC-Style Bus Networks

  • With the number of IP cores in a multicore system-on-chip increasing to up to tens or hundreds, the role of on-chip interconnection networks is vital. We propose a networks-on-chip-style bus network as a compromise and redefine the exploration problem to find the best IP tiling patterns and communication path combinations. Before solving the problem, we estimate the time complexity and validate the infeasibility of the solution. To reduce the time complexity, we propose two fast exploration algorithms and develop a program to implement these algorithms. The program is executed for several experiments, and the exploration time is reduced to approximately 1/22 and 7/1,200 at the first and second steps of the exploration process, respectively. However, as a trade-off for the time saving, the time cost (TC) of the searched architecture is increased to up to 4.7% and 11.2%, respectively, at each step compared with that of the architecture obtained through full-case exploration. The reduction ratio can be decreased to 1/4,000 by simultaneously applying both the algorithms even though the resulting TC is increased to up to 13.1% when compared with that obtained through full-case exploration.

  • South Korea entered an aged society phase in 2017 with the elderly accounting for 14% or higher of the entire population. It is expected to enter a super-aged society phase in 2026. The mobility handicapped, including the disabled and the elderly, are expected to grow continuously, and the demand for transport service for the mobility handicapped will definitely increase further. Thus, there is thus a need for various research to increase the utilization rate of low-floor buses among the mobility handicapped. This study analyzed the locations of getting on and off transportation means, time of departure and arrival, purpose of use, and frequency of use by the day among the mobility handicapped by making use of the information about their use of special transport service run by the mobility support center for the mobility handicapped. The study then proposed a method of selecting locations for low-floor bus stops to reflect the distribution and need of getting on and off transportation means among the mobility handicapped with such spatial analysis techniques as geocoding, overlapping analysis, buffer analysis, and generate tessellations. Finally, the study selected 228 locations for low-floor bus stops in Cheonan and reported a need to add 35 low-floor bus stops after eliminating the ones where the locations overlapped the old ones.

  • Partial discharge(PD) tests were performed both when the pumped storage generator(rated 13.8kV and 220MVA) was on-line and off-line. This generator has been equipped with 12 bus coupler sensors in directional mode. PD tests were conducted using partial discharge analyzer(PDA), partial discharge meter(PDM) and digital partial discharge detector. PDA showed that the patterns of the normalized quantity number(NQN) and the partial discharge magnitude are in accord with on-line and off-line. The insulation condition was estimated by diagnostic tests(off-line) such as PD magnitude and dissipation factor.

  • This paper presents a energy function to reflect the control effect of speed governor which has a cut-off property which means position and rate limit The proposed energy function satisfies the semi-negativeness of its time derivative and well reflects the parameters of speed governor to the energy function. The transient stability analysis by the direct method for the single machine infinite bus system has been conducted with the use of the proposed energy function, which shows that the results by the direct method well agree with that by the conventional time simulation method. This thesis shows a possibility of more accurate stability analysis by taking into account the cut-off property of speed governor's output.

Using Transportation Card Data to Analyze City Bus Use in the Ulsan Metropolitan City Area (교통카드를 활용한 시내버스의 현황 분석에 관한 연구 - 울산광역시 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study collected and analyzed transportation card data in order to better understand the operation and usage of city buses in Ulsan Metropolitan City in Korea. The analysis used quantitative and qualitative indicators according to the characteristics of the data, and also the categories were classified as general status, operational status, and satisfaction. The existing city bus survey method has limitations in terms of survey scale and in the survey process itself, which incurs various types of errors as well as requiring a lot of time and money to conduct. In particular, the bus means indicators calculated using transportation card data were analyzed to compensate for the shortcomings of the existing operational status survey methods that rely entirely on site surveys. The city bus index calculated by using the transportation card data involves quantitative operation status data related to the user, and this results in the advantage of being able to conduct a complete survey without any data loss in the data collection process. We took the transportation card data from the entire city bus network of Ulsan Metropolitan City on Wednesday April 3, 2019. The data included information about passenger numbers/types, bus types, bus stops, branches, bus operators, transfer information, and so on. From the data analysis, it was found that a total of 234,477 people used the city bus on the one day, of whom 88.6% were adults and 11.4% were students. In addition, the stop with the most passengers boarding and alighting was Industrial Tower (10,861 people), A total of 20,909 passengers got on and off during the peak evening period of 5 PM to 7 PM, and 13,903 passengers got on and off the No. 401 bus route. In addition, the top 26 routes in terms of the highest number of passengers occupied 50% of the total passengers, and the top five bus companies carried more than 70% of passengers, while 62.46% of the total routes carried less than 500 passengers per day. Overall, it can be said that this study has great significance in that it confirmed the possibility of replacing the existing survey method by analyzing city bus use by using transportation card data for Ulsan Metropolitan City. However, due to limitations in the collection of available data, analysis was performed only on one matched data, attempts to analyze time series data were not made, and the scope of analysis was limited because of not considering a methodology for efficiently analyzing large amounts of real-time data.

  • In recent years, ubiquitous and pervasive scenarios have emerged as a complex ecosystem where differentiated software/hardware components interoperate wirelessly and seamlessly. The goal is to enable users to continuously access services and contents, and to always get the best out of their current environment and available resources. In such dynamic and flexible scenarios, the need emerges for flexible and general solutions for continuous runtime self-reconfiguration and self-optimization of ubiquitous support software systems. This paper proposes a fully reconfigurable middleware approach that aims at reconfiguring complex software systems made up of heterogeneous off-the-shelf components from both functional and non-functional perspectives. Our middleware can also extend already existing and non-reconfigurable middleware/applications in an easy and flexible way, with no need to re-design them. The proposed design principles have been practically applied to the implementation of a runtime self-reconfigurable middleware called Off-The-Shelf Ready To Go (OTS-RTG), implemented on top of iPOJO. The reported experimental results both exhibit a limited overhead and show the wide applicability of the proposed solution to many application scenarios, including complex, industrial, Enterprise Service Bus-based ones.
