Delayed auger recombination in silicon measured by time-resolved X-ray scattering

  • We report a new method of measuring the non-radiative recombination rate in bulk Silicon. Synchrotron timeresolved x-ray scattering (TRXS) combines femtometer spatial sensitivity with nanosecond time resolution to record the temporal evolution of a crystal lattice following intense ultrafast laser excitation. Modeling this data requires an Auger recombination time that is considerably slower than previous measurements, which were made at lower laser intensities while probing only a relatively shallow surface depth. We attribute this difference to an enhanced Coulomb interaction that has been predicted to occur in bulk materials with high densities of photoexcited charge carriers.

선박 선미부 핀 부착에 의한 저항성능 및 유동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Resistance Performance and Flow Characteristic of Ship with a Fin Attached on Stern Hull)

  • 본 연구에서는 80k Bulk carrier의 저항성능 향상을 목적으로 선미부에 1개의 핀을 부착해 선미 유동을 제어하였고, 저항성능 및 반류의 변화를 분석하였다. 부착된 핀은 직사각형 단면을 가지며, 길이와 폭, 두께는 고정된 채 길이 및 흘수 방향 부착 위치와 유선에 대한 각도만 변화가 있었다. 나선 및 핀이 부착된 선체에 대한 모형 스케일에서의 CFD 해석이 수행되었고, 그 결과를 실선 확장 후 비교하였다. 핀은 프로펠러로 유입되는 빌지 볼텍스의 경로를 선미 트랜섬 쪽으로 변화시켰고, 이는 프로펠러 상부와 선미부의 압력을 증가시켰다. 이로 인해 선체의 압력저항 및 전 저항이 감소되었으며, 감소율은 핀의 부착 위치가 선미 및 선저와 가까울수록 높았다. 또한 핀은 공칭반류를 감소시켰는데 핀의 각도가 커질수록 반류의 변화가 컸고, 전 저항 저감률은 최대가 되는 특정 각도까지만 비례하였다. 대상 선박에 단일 핀을 부착했을 시의 최대 전 저항 저감률은 약 2.1 %였고, 선미로부터 수선간장의 12.5%, 선저로부터 흘수의 10 % 위치에 14°의 각도로 부착됐을 때이다.

  • For the preliminary stages of ship design it is necessary to develop a basic design, which specifies the main particulars of the vessel. based on the requirements given by the owner. An efficient design enables the shipyard to make a rough estimate of the construction costs and to put forward a favourable quote during the call for tenders. The parametric determination of the main particulars of the vessel involves the application of empirical formulae. These formulae have been created after detailed tests and research by maritime research institutions and researchers had been carried out. Here, the design of a medium sized Bulk Carrier (26000t dwt) with a service speed of 17 knots for carrying rice and rock phosphate has been illustrated. Medium sized Bulk Carriers (25,000t dwt - 50,000t dwt) are in steady demand among small shipping companies. They have a size advantage, in that port size restrictions do not affect their design tremendously. Nevertheless, structurally. they are one of the most difficult to build. During design, the rules of the maritime regulatory bodies were strictly adhered to.

Preparation of Low Density Ceramic Supporter from Coal Fly Ash

  • Low density ceramic supporter was prepared by using fly ash as a starting material for the application to the biological aerated filter (BAF) system, and the effect of additives and sintering atmosphere on the apparent and bulk density of the carrier was examined. Borax, Na$_2$O and glass powders were added to produce liquid phase. The density of the supporter decreased as the amount of borax increased. The bulk density of 0.79 g/㎤ and the apparent density of 1.10 g/㎤ were obtained when the fly ash with 15% of borax was sintered at 116$0^{\circ}C$ for 15 minutes. The density also decreased as the plate glass powders past through 22${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ size were mixed. When the fly ash with 12% of grass powder was sintered at 128$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes, the bulk and apparent density were 0.90g/㎤ and 1.00 g/㎤, respectively. Apparent density of 1.6~1.8g/㎤ was obtained when the fly ash was sintered at 120$0^{\circ}C$ in a weak reducing atmosphere. By maintaining the reducing atmosphere and sintering at a high heating rate, the liquid phase was farmed from the reduced composition of fly ash. This resulted in the formation of closed pores that enabled the low apparent density.

Measuring the Efficiency of Maritime Transport Companies

  • Purpose - This paper evaluated the efficiency performance of the three major maritime transport markets and examined the determinants of the performance. The firms' revenue fluctuates with the changes of the economic cycle; hence it is important for them to set up business strategies to improve efficiencies. A lack of efficiency measurements for shipping firms leads to a significant gap in determining their overall performance. Research design, data, and methodology - Each of DEA scores was adopted for the evaluation and panel regression was used to examine the impact of determinants on the performance. The analysis included 50 shipping firms from three maritime transport markets as follows; 15 firms of container liners, 18 firms of bulk carrier and 17 firms of tanker carriers, and its period was from 2010 to 2016. Results - In the CCR model, container liners were the highest, tanker carriers were the second, and bulk carriers were the lowest in operation efficiency and financial efficiency. By region, operation efficiency and financial efficiency was high in the order of America, Asia, and Europe. Conclusions - This study suggests business strategies for maritime transport companies based on the analytical results of determinants of operational and financial efficiency.

Reliability of Maintained Hull Girders of Two Bulk Carrier Designs Subjected to Fatigue and Corrosion

  • The objective of the paper is to study the impact of changing the traditional hull design of bulk carriers by providing them with a double hull while keeping the same deadweight. It is demonstrated that by introducing the double hull the structural reliability is increased throughout the entire life and also the extend of the needed repair is reduced. The results are obtained with recently developed mathematical tools for the reliability assessment of ship hulls subjected to the existence of multiple cracks both in the stiffeners and in the plating and it models the crack growth process. The effect of corrosion is represented as time dependent. The long-term stress range acting on the elements is defined as a function of the local transverse pressure of the internal cargo and outside sea water combined with the stresses resulting from the longitudinal bending of the hull, which is a combined with the stresses resulting from the longitudinal bending of the hull, which is a combineation of horizontal and vertical bending moments. The effect of maintenance actions is modelled as a stochastic process. The results show that a different design of the midship section improves the structural safety and also the economy with respect to structural repair of bulk carriers.

Recovery of Golden yellow and Cibacron LSG dyes from aqueous solution by bulk liquid membrane technique

  • Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) was used as carrier for the transport of Golden yellow and Cibacron LSG dyes through a hexane bulk liquid membrane. The transport efficiency of dyes by TBP was investigated under various experimental conditions such as pH of the feed phase (dyes solution), concentration of the receiving phase (NaOH solution), concentration of TBP in membrane, rate of stirring, effect of transport time, type of solvent, dye concentration in feed phase, effect of temperature.. The maximum transport dyes occurs at ratio of 1:1 TBP-hexane At pH 3.0 0.1 (feed phase) the transport dyes decreased. At high stirring speed (300 rpm) the dyes transport from the feed phase to the strip phase was completed within 60 minutes at $27^{\circ}C$. Under optimum conditions: Feed phase 100 mg/L dyes solution at pH 1.0 0.1, receiving phase 0.1 mol/L NaOH solution, membrane phase 1:1 TBP-hexane , Stirring speed 300 rpm and temperature $27^{\circ}C$, the proposed liquid membrane was applied to recover the textile effluent.

  • 2-Mercaptobenzothiazole was used as a highly selective and efficient carrier for the uphill transport of silver ion through a chloroform bulk liquid membrane. In the presence of thiosulfate ion as a suitable metal ion acceptor in the receiving phase, the amount of silver transported across the liquid membrane after 180 min was 90 ± 3.0%. The selectivity and efficiency of silver ion transported from aqueous solutions containing equimolar mixtures of $Zn^{2+}, Cu^{2+}, Co^{2+}, Ni^{2+}, Cd^{2+}, Pb^{2+}, Bi^{3+}, Fe^{2+}, Fe^{3+}, Pd^{2+}, Mn^{2+}, Hg^{2+}, Sn^{2+}, Ca^{2+}, Mg^{2+}, K^+, Na^+ and Li^+$ were investigated.

  • This paper described the minority carrier lifetime in Si epitaxial layer, and also the voltage (V) versus current (I) characteristics of high resistivity Si epitaxial layer0substrate junction. The measured lifetime in Si epi-layer was much shorter than in bulk, and the temperature dependence of lifetime was found to agree well with Shockley-Read model of recombination which applies to high resistivity n-type materials. The V-I curve showed; an ohmic region (I.var.V), a sublinear region (I.var.V$^{1}$2/), a space charge limited current region (I.var.V$^{2}$), and finally a negative resistance region. We investigated these phenomena by the theory of the relaxation semiconductor.

Electric Property Analysis of SiC Semiconductor Wafer for Power Device Application

  • We investigated the effects of hydrogen addition to the growth process of SiC single crystal using sublimation physical vapor transport(PVT) techniques. Hydrogen was periodically added to an inert gas for the growth ambient during the SiC bulk growth Grown 2"-SiC single crystals were proven to be the polytype of 6H-SiC and carrier concentration levels of about $10^{17}/cm^3$ was determined from Hall measurements. As compared to the characteristics of SiC crystal grown without using hydrogen addition, the SiC crystal without definitely exhibited lower carrier concentration and lower microplpe density as well as reduced growth rate.
