In this study, we analyze space alternation, which is shown pre-development and post-development in the reconstruction apartment. We point out problems in terms of the city and dwelling environment, and in looking for drawing up a plan for improvement as well. As a result of our research, we offer some important observations and conclusions. Ourdoor space of the site after the reconstruction caused inconvenience to the residents due to the plan for high-storeys, high-density, And the building shape and arrangement provide changeable conditions form line figures to variable figures due to courtyard patterns. The courtyard space changes into a parking area ; therefore the outdoor site gives worse circumstances.

Recently, the environmental sustainability has showed up one of the important considerations in the construction industry. However, the effective evaluation method for the decision-making on either reconstruction or remodeling of a project has not been developed so far. This paper presents an integrated evaluation model considering both environment and economic factors of a building project for which the decision making on either remodeling or reconstruction is needed. In order to develop the model, the characteristics of both types of projects were investigated and analyzed through the related literature review, and then appropriate evaluation criteria and analysis methodology to be used in the model were developed.
The Grand Stupa is mentioned in historical text as 'Rajakudakan', which means a royal building with a multitiered superstructure. This Grand Stupa is the principal construction of Wat Chedi Luang, and marks the center of the Chiang Mai City Plan. This study argues that the Grand Stupa was built in 1391 during Phaya Saen Mueang Ma's reign, possibly inspired by the construction of Ku Phaya in Bagan. Thereafter, in 1545, the Grand Stupa's superstructure collapsed after the great earthquake, resulted in the irreparable damage since then. Therefore, a survey using a 3D laser scanner is conducted to collect the most precise data on the current condition of the Grand Stupa, yielding an assumption of its reconstruction. Other simultaneous stupas or those that show a close architectural relationship (e.g. stupas in Wat Chiang Man and Wat Lok Moli and the stupa of King Tilokaraj in Wat Chet Yot in Chiang Mai) are also employed as research frameworks for the reconstruction. As a result, the architectural research on the Grands Stupa, compared with simultaneous stupas, yields a fruitful argument that the pre-collapse superstructure form of the Grand Stupa marks the most architectural similarity to the stupa of Wat Chiang Man.

The broad aim of this paper is to provide a detailed understanding of the post-war problems associated with materials for reconstruction in Libya, and to identify key problems and obstructions. Theoretical and empirical studies are being conducted in Libya. The theoretical study focuses on materials for construction and the key issues such as sources, transport and storage of materials, as well as their impact on the national economy, the nation's socio-economic development and the environment. This empirical study employed questionnaires, observations and a series of interviews with researchers, academics, suppliers and manufacturers, supported by the researcher's three decades of experience of working in the construction industry and its associated processes and operations. The empirical study illustrated that materials for post-disaster reconstruction in Libya suffer from external problems related to policies and decision-making in terms of availability of materials, fluctuation of prices of materials, specifications, building codes, legislation and regulations, and internal problems related to the construction and building material's key players: construction companies, consultancy firms, manufacturers and suppliers.

Construction of the Pyongyang Railroad Station began in 1907 as an important foothold for the Japanese colonization of the Korean Peninsula and the further invasion of Manchuria. As Pyongyang gradually grew in size and political significance, the Pyongyang Station came to have two responsibilities: Fulfill its functional role and serve as a monument to the growing dignity of the city. This study argues that the Pyongyang Station, newly rebuilt in 1958, was the first building to solve the demands for both functional expansion and the pursuit of monumentality. Stylistically, the original single-story wooden building became a three-story classical masonry building. The stylistic change symbolizes the political shift by which the building was reconstructed. The simple wooden building built by the Japanese, representing Pyongyang's status as a colonial provincial town, was transformed into an imposing gateway for the capital city of a newly born socialist state. Socialist Realism, correctly described by its slogan "socialist in content and national in form," harmoniously blended classical architecture, socialist symbols, and Korean local motifs. This study is significant in that it illustrates the historical changes and continuity of the Pyongyang Station from 1907, when it was first built, through the "liberated space" to the postwar reconstruction period of the 1950s.
The study examined reconstruction and building plan of Buyeo Muryangsa Temple in the 17th century and reviewed its construction process and supporting power since the Imjin War of 1592. In addition, The architectural features and design plan of Geukrakjeon that is the most important position in the reconstruction were examined. The reconstruction process of Muryangsa Temple is as follows. Firstly, the study reviewed the reconstruction order of Muryangsa Temple that was progressed in a short period of time from 1624 to 1636. In doing so, the reconstruction period was adjusted from 1633 to 1624 so that the construction order of Muryangsa Temple might be the reconstruction of Geukrakjeon in 1624, Gwaebul in 1627, Sojosamjonbul in 1636 and Beomjong in 1636. Secondly, as the reconstruction of Muryangsa Temple was progressed in a short period of time of 13 years, it was assumed there was great supporting power. In particular, it was found that Jinmukdaesa who lead the construction of Wanju Songgwangsa Temple had an impact on the construction of Muryangsa Temple. It was conjectured that Shin family of the royal family as the supporting power of Songgwangsa through the support of Jinmukdaesa had an impact on Muryangsa Temple. Thirdly, the study reviewed architectural features of Geukrakjeon which has the most important meaning of the reconstruction of Muryangsa Temple. By comparing other reconstructed temples, the architectural style of Muryangsa Temple was examined. In particular, features of Gongpo and furniture were reviewed. In doing so, Muryangsa Temple, the study proposed a possibility that Geukrakjeon would be constructed by an artisan in the same genealogy of Wanju Hwasamsa Temple Geukrakjeon. Finally, the design plan of the building was reviewed with Yongcheok of 309mm used for the construction of Geukrakjeon. Geukrakjeon had perfect proportion compared with other reconstructed temple in the late Joseon period, and golden ratio of 1:1.41 was applied in many areas of building. the study also proposed that the stable design of Geukrakjeon was carried out by the building plan of overall Garam at the time of reconstruction of Muryangsa Temple in the late Joseon period.
3D reconstruction of urban architecture, land, and roads is an important part of building a "digital city." Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are gradually replacing other platforms, such as satellites and aircraft, in geographical image collection; the reason for this is not only lower cost and higher efficiency, but also higher data accuracy and a larger amount of obtained information. Recent 3D reconstruction algorithms have a high degree of automation, but their computation time is long and the reconstruction models may have many voids. This paper decomposes the object into multiple regional parallel reconstructions using the clustering principle, to reduce the computation time and improve the model quality. It is proposed to detect the planar area under low resolution, and then reduce the number of point clouds in the complex area.
The monitoring of urban area, target detection and building reconstruction have been actively studied and investigated since high resolution X-band SAR images could be acquired by airborne and/or satellite SAR systems. This paper describes an efficient approach to reconstruct artificial structures (e.g. apartment, building and house) in urban area using high resolution X-band SAR images. Building footprint was first extracted from 1:25,000 digital topographic map and then a corner line of building was detected by an automatic detecting algorithm. With SAR amplitude images, an initial building height was calculated by the length of layover estimated using KS-test (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test) from the corner line. The interferometric SAR phases were simulated depending on SAR geometry and changable building heights ranging from -10 m to +10 m of the initial building height. With an interferogram from real SAR data set, the simulation results were compared using the method of the phase consistency. One of results can be finally defined as the reconstructed building height. The developed algorithm was applied to repeat-pass TerraSAR-X spotlight mode data set over an apartment complex in Daejeon city, Korea. The final building heights were validated against reference heights extracted from LiDAR DSM, with an RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) of about 1~2m.

This paper introduces a new method for identification of building energy performance problems. The presented method is based on automated analysis and visualization of deviations between actual and expected energy performance of the building using EPAR (Energy Performance Augmented Reality) models. For generating EPAR models, during building inspections, energy auditors collect a large number of digital and thermal imagery using a consumer-level single thermal camera that has a built-in digital lens. Based on a pipeline of image-based 3D reconstruction algorithms built on GPU and multi-core CPU architecture, 3D geometrical and thermal point cloud models of the building under inspection are automatically generated and integrated. Then, the resulting actual 3D spatio-thermal model and the expected energy performance model simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis are superimposed within an augmented reality environment. Based on the resulting EPAR models which jointly visualize the actual and expected energy performance of the building under inspection, two new algorithms are introduced for quick and reliable identification of potential performance problems: 1) 3D thermal mesh modeling using k-d trees and nearest neighbor searching to automate calculation of temperature deviations; and 2) automated visualization of performance deviations using a metaphor based on traffic light colors. The proposed EPAR v2.0 modeling method is validated on several interior locations of a residential building and an instructional facility. Our empirical observations show that the automated energy performance analysis using EPAR models enables performance deviations to be rapidly and accurately identified. The visualization of performance deviations in 3D enables auditors to easily identify potential building performance problems. Rather than manually analyzing thermal imagery, auditors can focus on other important tasks such as evaluating possible remedial alternatives.
LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) system has a profound impact on geoinformatics. The laser mapping system is now recognized as being a viable system to produce the digital surface model rapidly and efficiently. Indeed the number of its applications and users has grown at a surprising rate in recent years. Interest is now focused on the reconstruction of buildings in urban areas from LiDAR data. Although with present technology objects can be extracted and reconstructed automatically using LiDAR data, the quality issue of the results is still major concern in terms of geometric accuracy. It would be enormously beneficial to the geoinformatics industry if geometrically accurate modeling of topographic surface including man-made objects could be produced automatically. The objectives of this study are to reconstruct buildings using airborne LiDAR data and to evaluate accuracy of the result. In these regards, firstly systematic errors involved with ALS (Airborne Laser Scanning) system are introduced. Secondly, the overall LiDAR data quality was estimated based on the ground check points, then classifying the laser points was performed. In this study, buildings were reconstructed from the classified as building laser point clouds. The most likely planar surfaces were estimated by the least-square method using the laser points classified as being planes. Intersecting lines of the planes were then computed and these were defined as the building boundaries. Finally, quality of the reconstructed building was evaluated.
