Building Extraction and 3D Modeling from Airborne Laser Scanning Data

  • The demand for more accurate and realistic 3D urban models has been increasing more and more. Many studies have been conducted to extract 3D features from remote sensing data such as satellite images, aerial photos, and airborne laser scanning data. In this paper a technique is presented to extract and reconstruct 3D buildings in urban areas using airborne laser scanning data. Firstly all points in a building were divided into some groups by height difference. From segmented laser scanning data of irregularly distributed points we generalized and regularized building boundaries which better approximate the real boundaries. Then the roof points which are subject to the same groups were classified using pre-defined models by least squares fitting. Finally all parameters of the roof surfaces were determined and 3D building models were constructed. Some buildings with complex shapes were selected to test our presented algorithms. The results showed that proposed approach has good potential for reconstructing complex buildings in detail using only airborne laser scanning data.

초고층 주상복합 프리캐스트 콘크리트 구조물의 경제성 분석에 관한 연구 (A study on the economic analysis of high-rise residential-commercial building that is made by precast concrete)

  • The increase of hish-rise residential-commercial buildings is required to cut down a term of works and the cost of construction. Reinforced concrete structures and steel framed reinforcement concrete that are commonly used have the difficulty in reducing them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a new precast concrete complex system and to analyze its economical feasibility. The economic analysis is performed through comparing the cost of a high-rise reinforced building that was already constructed with that of the new proposed precast concrete system, which is limited to structural frame work of typical floors. This study shows that the proposed precast concrete complex system is economical. Further research should be directed at including the influence of a term of works.

주상복합건물의 환경친화적 계획방향에 관한 기초 연구 (A Proposal of Planning Direction of Eco-Friendly Multi-Use Housing and Commercial Complex)

  • Multi-use housing and commercial buildings have been emerged according to social and economic changes of CBD in Seoul Metropolitan Areas. The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of the multi-use building, to analyze the problems on the base of survey and to suggest the solutions for architectural planning, focusing on eco-friendly dwelling environment. A field survey with 46 subjects has been carried out with structured questionnaire. Some problems in planning of the complex building have been discussed in terms of environmental issues and design criteria. In conclusion, basic planning directions for improving the building environmental quality have been suggested.

  • Recently, an irregular-shaped super tall building has been increased, aiming toward landmarks of cityscape. However, the complex floor plan derived from an irregular shape requires considerable resources including time, cost, and effort to meet complex structural framework. Based on the motivation, the study proposes a table-form system that is variable slab form appropriate to an irregular shaped floor through improving limitations of an existing table-form system. The variable table-form is expected to reduce construction resources and improve constructability on an irregular floor plan of super tall buildings as well.

주상복합건축물의 심의평가에 관한 연구 -서울시 건축(1)심의를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Architectural Evaluation for the Commercial-Residential Complex - Focused on the Seoul Building Design Review -)

  • In this Study, it was investigated what the critical elements of the Architectural Review by the Seoul Building Design Committee were. The critical elements selected by the members of committee were systematically analyzed. They were based on the 169 cases reviewed by the Building Design Committee. The committee consists of Professors, famous architects, architectural experts and official members. Thus, the critical elements selected by the committee can be regarded as the important criteria for the forthcoming architectural reviewing process. The critical elements selected by 960 members of the committee were classified by the frequency. The results in this study showed that the critical elements were ordered as follows: (1)floor plan, (2)landscape gardening, (3)form, (4)open space, (5)structure, (6)plan for preventing disasters, (7)circulation for men and cars, (8)facilities, (9)parking, (10)revision of drawings and documents. These criteria of the architectural evaluation established by the Seoul Building Design Committee can be applied to the fundamental preparation of the architectural review.

  • The fire in Ulsan in 2020 was a 33-story residential and commercial complex with about 90 injuries and more than 10 billion won in property damage, and considering the recent increase in high-rise residential and commercial complexes, the risk of similar fires is high. As can be seen through the residential and commercial complex fire case in Ulsan, life-based fire safety standards need to be established to minimize casualties. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to draw improvements for the development of human safety standards for high-rise residential facilities in the future through comparison with the Korean Building Act, Firefighting-rellated Acts and the U.S. NFPA 101.

  • Currently energy use planning council system is mandatory especially for the urban development project planned on a specified scale or more. The goal of existing demand prediction was to calculate the maximum load by multiplying energy load per unit area by building size. The result of this method may be exaggerated and has a limit in the information of period load. The paper suggests a new forecasting process based on standard unit household in order to upgrade the limit in demand prediction method of multi-family housing complex. The new process was verified by comparing actual using amount of multi-family housing complex to forecasting value of energy use plan.

  • Polymer concrete has more excellent durability, tensile strength, flexural strength and waterproof performance mechanically than normal concrete, and as it mixes as a polymer binding material, it can reduce the cement use amount. This study reviews fundamental properties of cement material mixed with complex polymer. As a result of this study, as percentage of complex polymer mix increases, flow value will decrease so that liquidity and compression strength will decrease. On the other hand, in case of flexural strength, when the mixture is 10%, it increases significantly more than OPC.

Push-over 해석을 사용한 복합구조물의 하부골조 층수변화에 따른 거동분석 (The Investigation of Structural Behavior with Variations in the Lower Stories of Complex Buildings using Push-over Analysis)

  • Upper wall-lower frame(complex building) can be divided into three partition, namely, upper wall, lower frame, and transfer system which link two partitions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the elasto-plastic response characteristics of structures with variation in the stories of lower frame of complex buildings. The conclusions of this study was following; 1) In the push-over analysis for vertically irregular building, the distribution of lateral forces is judged which consider the effects of higher mode. 2) In proportion as the stories of lower frame increase inter-story displacement of lower frame increased, but that of upper wall decreased. 3) The appearance of yielding hinge with variations in the lower stories of complex buildings differed in lower frame of each model, but was almost the same in upper wall.

  • Enormous apartment complexes in urban areas, temporary inversion state and heat island effect occur due to the strong sunshine and weak wind speeds which hinders the dispersion of air pollutants that are emitted from neighboring areas of apartment complexes. In this study, analysis were conducted by using the Fluent code based on the CFD(Computation Fluid Dynamics), including building layout, material, building height from the ground surface, the heat, analysis of flow field in the apartment complex. It was estimated that the temporal radiation inversion phenomenon during the daytime, which was caused by the weak wind speed and higher temperatures in the upper level, contributed to the stagnation of the air pollutants in the lower layer of the apartment complex.
