  • Down through the years, human needs and desires have required a robot system to work at hazardous environments instead. Current painting task is costly and laborious, and it exposes workers to significant health and safety risks. Automation system offers potential improvement in this area and is especially well suited to the outer-wall painting tasks in concrete structures. This paper introduces the result of gondola-type building management robot(G-BMR) platform and mechanism for moving/tasking on building outer-wall for the outer-wall painting. Its technical and economic feasibility are conducted, and it is concluded that developing G-BMR is physically and economically feasible in this research. And we discuss about the future of G-BMR and automation in construction field.

  • Nuclear containment building is used as second blockage to protect us from a radiation leakage caused by the natural disaster or any accidents, so it's safety is important and must be kept with continuous surveillance. In this study, we measured the strain of a nuclear containment building's wall by using FBG sensor and investigated the structural safety of a nuclear containment building. 50 FBG strain sensors and 18 FBG strain sensors were attached on the side wall and upper dome of a nuclear containment building, respectively. We measured the strains of the outside concrete wall during the Structural Integrity Test (SIT) of a nuclear containment building. The strain of an upper dome was larger than that of a side wall, about $200{\mu}{\varepsilon}$. And the very small strain was measured at vertical direction of a side wall. These experimental results were used to evaluate the structural health of nuclear containment building.

  • The purpose of this study is to present rational methods of multi-criteria optimization of the shape of energy saving buildings. The object is to determine the optimum dimension of the shape of a building, based on the following criteria: minimum building costs (including the cost of materials and construction) and yearly heating costs. Mathematical model described heat losses and gains in a building during the heating season. It takes into consideration heat losses through wall, roof, floor and windows. Particular attention was paid to have a more detailed description of heat gains due to solar radiation. On the assumption that shape of building is rectangle in order to solve the problem, the proportions of wall length and building height are determined by using non-linear programing methods(Kuhn-Tucker Conditions). The results constitute information for designers on the optimum proportions of wall lengths, height, and the ratios of window to wall areas for energy saving buildings.

  • One of the most weak parts for energy loss through the whole building components are building envelopes. Lots of technbologies to increase the thermal performance of building envelopes have been introduced in recent years. Transparent insulation is a new technology for building insulation and has function both solar transmittance and thermal insulation. This study has been carried out to develope the transparent insulation panels and TI-wall system and to analyze the thermal performance of TI-wall system by experiments using test-cell and dynamic energy simulation program ESP-r 9.0. This system is regarded as a efficient building envelope system suitable for to reduce the heating and cooling load of the buildings in our country.

  • The natural period calculation equations specified in the current building code are empirical formulas that depend on height and material type of the structure. Building with the upper wall and lower frame type is a unique structure which composed of two different structural system This type of structure needs either the deep transfer girder or the thick transfer plate that brings the sudden change of stiffness and mass. Therefore the natural period equations recommended by the current code can not be applied directly. In this study the natural period of building with typical plan obtained by dynamci analysis is compared with that of various codes. Ad approximate estimation equation for the natural period of building with the upper wall and lower frame type obtained by regression analysis is recommended. by the current code can not be applied directly. • Roof and exterior wall are designed and constructed in a manner that prevents the accumulation of water within the wall and roof assembly in the formal building. However, in a freeform building there is no clear distinction between exterior wall and roof. In other words, the exterior walls and roof systems of the freeform building are integrated as a surface, unlike the formal building envelope. Therefore, freeform architecture needs a systemized envelope design method to perform functions of exterior wall and roof. However, in many cases, construction methods for roof and exterior wall are applied to freeform buildings without necessary alterations, which lead to incomplete design, leakage, cracks and other problems. Freeform architecture is thus designed and constructed differently from formal buildings. In order to more easily and inexpensively actualize freeform architecture, Building Information Modeling (hereinafter referred to as BIM) has recently been applied in the construction industry. The studies and case analysis are not sufficient to identify the implications and contributions of freeform buildings in future similar projects. Therefore, this research will study design and construction methods for freeform surfaces. This study attempts to analyze the pros and cons of each method for the concrete surface frame, and then presents the panel options for envelope system of the freeform architecture.

  • Nowadays, it seems we are in the high time of construction design because development of construction technology widen the option of construction exterior closing materials and deepen the high-tech construction method with all various materials. When we see the flow of construction market, the mainstream is the high-rise intelligent building, which makes the best use of the small midtown area efficently. Therefore, Alum curtain wall is becoming the main material of exterior construction, the concept of which is changing from just a simple window frame to an outer wall which has comprehensive function and capability. As we think of the importance of Curtain wall as a comprehensive outer wall, We should do thorough technical examination and verification at the stage of construction design and plan of carrying out construction.

  • Curtain-wall systems have been widely applied to buildings because of their lightweight and constructability characteristics. However, as curtain-wall systems include many building materials, vapor barriers can become damaged and condensation can occur. Due to the material properties of stone curtain-walls, the external appearance and structure of a building could be damaged and the insulating performance of the curtain-wall could be worse. Natural ventilation using an air cavity in a curtain-wall is expected to be effective for the prevention of condensation in inner walls and for the reduction of building cooling energy use in the summer. The purpose of this experimental study is to analyze the influence of a ventilated cavity on the insulating performance of a curtain-wall and the ventilated cavity depth and ratio of top opening needed to prevent condensation in a curtain-wall.

  • The insulation characteristics of earthen core wall were studied in this paper. The overall heat transfer coefficients(U) were obtained through experiment in accordance with Korea Industrial standards. The result of the experiment are compared with the Regional Overall Heat Transfer Coefficient(U) of Building. This results inform that core wall with soil can be used as building walls because the insulation characteristics agree to the rule of building standards.
