To analyze building energy consumption, the building description for building energy performance analysis (BEPA) is required. The required data input for subject building is a basic step in the BEPA process. Since building information modeling (BIM) is applied in the construction industry, the required data for BEPA can be gathered from a single international standard file format like IFCXML. However, in most BEPA processes, since the required data cannot be fully used from the IFCXML file, a building description for BEPA must be created again. This paper proposes IFCXML-based automatic data input approach for BEA. After the required data for BEPA has been defined, automatic data input for BEPA is developed by a prototype system. To evaluate the proposed system, a common BIM file from the BuildingSMART website is applied as a sample model. This system can increase the efficiency and reliability of the BEPA process, since the data input is automatically and efficiently improved by directly using the IFCXML file.
The government is fostering a renewable energy industry as an alternative to handle the energy crisis. Among the renewable energy systems available, geothermal energy is being highlighted as being highly efficient and safely operable without the effect of outdoor air. Accordingly, a study on the geothermal heat pump is in progress in various worldwide perspective. However, Geothermal energy is only in charge of part load of the building due to the high initial installation cost in korea. Moreover, its efficiency is reduced due to the use of independent existing heat sources. In this study, after selecting the building containing the actual installed geothermal heat pump, the use of excellent geothermal heat pump systems was maximized in terms of the energy efficiency. The objective of this study is to show the operation method of geothermal heat pump system to improve energy efficiency through the TRNSYS simulation. This paper proposed operation methods of geothermal heat pump control according to outdoor air temperature. The result of this study is that existing operation method had some problems and if offered improvement is applied to real condition, energy consumption would be decreased.
With the increased awareness of energy consumption as well as the environmental impact of building operations, architects, designers and planners are required to place more consideration on sustainability and energy performance of the building. To ensure most of those considerations are reflected in the building performance, critical design decisions should be made by key stakeholders early during the design development stage. The application of BIM during building energy simulations has profoundly improved the energy analysis process and thus this approach has gained momentum. However, despite rapid advances in BIM-based processes, the question still remains how ordinary building stakeholders can perform energy performance analysis, which has previously been conducted predominantly by professionals, to maximize energy efficient building performance. To address this issue, we identified two leading building performance analysis software programs, Energy Plus and IES (IES ), and compared their effectiveness and suitability as BIM-based energy simulation tools. To facilitate this study, we examined a case study on Building Performance Model (BPM) of a single story building with one door, multiple windows on each wall, a slab and a roof. We focused particularly on building energy performance by differing building orientation and window sizes and compared how effectively these two software programs analyzed the performance. We also looked at typical decision-making processes implementing building energy simulation program during the early design stages in the U.S. Finally, conclusions were drawn as to how to conduct BIM-based building energy performance evaluations more efficiently. Suggestions for further avenues of research are also made.

Distributed generation(DG) of combined cooling, heat. and power(CCHP)has been gaining momentum in recent year as efficient, secure alternative for meeting increasing energy demands. This paper presents the energy performance of microturbine CCHP system equipped with an absorption chiller by modelling it in hospital building. The orders of study were as following. 1)The list and schedule of energy consumption equipment in hospital were examined such as heating and cooling machine, light etc. 2) Annual report of energy usage and monitoring data were examined as heating, cooling, DHW, lighting, etc. 3) The weather data in 2007 was used for simulation and was arranged by meteorological office data in Daejeon. 4) Reference simulation model was built by comparison of real energy consumption and simulation result by TRNSYS and ESP-r. The energy consumption pattern of building were analyzed by simulation model and energy reduction rate were calculated over the cogeneration. As a result of this study, power generation efficiency of turbine was about 30% after installing micro gas turbine and lighting energy as well as total electricity consumption can be reduced by 40%. If electricity energy and waste heat in turbine are used, 56% of heating energy and 67% of cooling energy can be reduced respectively, and total system efficiency can be increased up to 70%.

Smart windows are used as windows and doors to determine the cooling and heating efficiency of a building. They have characteristics that can increase the energy efficiency of a building, which leads to energy savings. In addition, smart windows can control the amount of light transmitted from the external environment of a building to the interior of a building according to the needs of the user. In this study, a 297×210 ㎟ liquid crystal cell capable of controlling light transmittance was fabricated using a liquid crystal device as an optical shutter. The effect of driving voltage on the transmittance and the effect of the thermal environment on the driving stability were analyzed. We confirmed the applicability of using smart windows as exterior building materials.
In the high oil price age, intensification of energy efficiency promotion in the building sector is required. Windows are dominating in large percent of whole building loads, and are regarding as the primary target of energy efficiency. In this study, in order to reduce heat loss of buildings, we investigate the thermal performance properties of Temperable Low-e glazing coated Ag membrane that has high electrical conductivity. The Temperable Low-e glazing windows has high insulation and shading properties, and it has strength that can supply various product which consumers want. In order to evaluate thermal performance of temperable windows, we install single low-e windows and double low-e windows in the experimental chamber and analysis the comparison heating energy consumption between single and double Low-e glazing windows. performance evaluation was conducted.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC), an international treaty to prevent the regulation and global warming, has passed through the General Assembly for 17 times from 1992 to 2011. To create a performance plan specific, such as the Kyoto Protocol, it is to promote the reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gases worldwide. In South Korea, Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation(KISTEC) is working and supporting for developing method of green remodeling policy. Among several solutions, "Remodeling" ensures to increase the energy efficiency of buildings and to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases, and consequently it could maintain buildings high efficiency. For remodeling projects, it is most important to determine construction plan including remodeling scopes and methods, while the plan has been determined by the engineer's background and experience. Therefore, this study aims at developing a method for selecting optimal skin system which has remarkable influence to energy performance of the buildings.

Due to increased consumption of energy in the building environment, the building energy management systems (BEMS) solution has been developed to achieve energy saving and efficiency. However, because of the shortage of building energy management specialists and incompatibility among the energy management systems of different vendors, the BEMS solution can only be applied to limited buildings individually. To solve these problems, we propose a building cluster based remote energy monitoring and management (EMM) system and its functionalities and roles of each sub-system to simultaneously manage the energy problems of several buildings. We also introduce a novel energy demand forecasting algorithm by using past energy consumption data. Extensive performance evaluation study shows that the proposed regression based energy demand forecasting model is well fitted to the actual energy consumption model, and it also outperforms the artificial neural network (ANN) based forecasting model.

As a key policy for achieving the goal of reducing GHG in the building sector, Korea has enforced the mandatory certification of zero-energy buildings for new buildings in the public sector from 2020. This study evaluated a policy to achieve Net Zero by identifying the trend of changes in building energy performance according to policy and presenting a methodology to analyze the current performance state of energy technology applied to buildings. The final goal was to help stakeholders apply appropriate energy technologies for new buildings. For this study, data collected on building energy efficiency certification over the last four years have shown a gradual increase in energy performance. In addition, K-means cluster analysis was used to analyze the performance status of energy technologies applied to buildings. The high and low clusters of education and office facilities were used to analyze the comparative group (2016-2020, 2020). As a result, the solar module area in both high and low clusters of education facilities increased by 261.1% and 283.5%. In contrast, the solar module area decreased by both high and low clusters of office facilities. The most passive and active technologies showed an increase in energy performance.

This paper proposed a multi-objective optimization method for building energy system design using primary energy consumption and initial cost. The designing of building energy systems is a complex task, because life cycle cost and efficiency of building are determined by decisions of engineer during the early stage of design. Therefore, methods such as pareto analysis that can generate various alternatives for decision making are necessary. In this study, the optimization is performed using the NSGAII and case study was carried out for feasibility of the proposed method. As a result, alternative solutions can be obtained for the optimal building energy system design.
