  • The interaction of para-halogenated benzoic acid isomers with the micellar system of tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide was studied by the UV/Vis spectrophotometric method. The solubilization constants ($K_s$) of benzoic acid isomers into the micellar system of TTAB and the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of TTAB have been measured with the change of temperature. Various thermodynamic parameters have been calculated and analyzed from those measurement. The results show that the values of ${\Delta}G^{\circ}{_s}$ for the solubilization of all isomers are negative and the values of ${\Delta}H^{\circ}{_s}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}{_s}$ are all positive within the measured temperature range. The effects of additives (n-butanol and NaCl) on the solubilization of benzoic acid isomers have been also measured. There was a great decrease on the values of $K_s$ and CMC simultaneously with these additives. From these changes we can postulate that the solubilization sites of each isomers in the TTAB micellar system are the surface or the palisade region of the micelle.

  • The synthesis of organic and hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites directly from solution improves the cost- and energy-efficiency of processing. To date, numerous research efforts have been devoted to investigating the influence of the various solvent parameters for the synthesis of lead halide perovskites, focused on the effects of different single solvents on the efficiency of the resulting perovskites. In this work, we investigated the effect of solvent blends for the first time on the structure and phase of perovskites produced via the Lewis base vapor diffusion method to develop a new synthetic approach for water-stable CsPbBr3 particles with nanometer-sized dimensions. Solvent blends prepared with DMF and water-miscible solvents with different Gutmann's donor numbers (DN) affect the Pb ions differently, resulting in a variety of lead bromide species with various colors. The use of a DMF/isopropanol solvent mixture was found to induce the formation of the Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite based on lead bromide. This perovskite undergoes a blue color shift in the solvated state owing to the separation of nanoplatelets. In contrast, the replacement of isopropanol with DMSO, which has a high DN, induces the formation of spherical CsPbBr3 perovskite nanoparticles that exhibit green emission. Finally, the integration of acetone in the solvent system leads to the formation of lead bromide complexes with a yellow-orange color and the perovskite CsPbBr3.

  • Background: Rocuronium bromide has been evaluated as a mydriatic agent in birds, but the species applied were limited and the dose and effect were variable. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of topical rocuronium bromide as mydriatics in 4 species according to horizontal palpebral fissure length: Feral pigeon (Columba livia), Common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus), Northern boobook (Ninox japonica), and Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo). Methods: A total of 32 birds (8 for each species) were included as pre-releasing examination. Rocuronium bromide was instilled in one randomly selected eye of each bird based on palpebral fissure length criteria (0.5 mg/50 µL for pigeons, 1 mg/100 µL for kestrels and boobook owls, and 2 mg/200 µL for eagle owls). The contralateral eye was used as control and treated with normal saline. After instillation of the drug, pupil diameter, pupillary light reflex, intraocular pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate were evaluated at 10 min intervals up to 180 min and at 30 min intervals up to 360 min. Results: Statistically significant mydriasis was obtained in all birds (p < 0.001). However, in boobook and eagle owls, marked mydriasis persisted until 360 min. Side effects including corneal erosion and lower eyelid paralysis were common, which was observed in 26/32 birds. Blepharospasm was also noted during this study. No systemic adverse signs were observed. Conclusions: Rocuronium bromide could be a good mydriatics option for 4 species of birds, however, further studies are needed to find lowest effective dose to reduce drug-related side effects.

  • This surfactant can be used as a cosmetics and chemical dispersants. The variation of critical micelle concentration(CMC) with temperature for N-eicosyl pyridinium bromide over the range $40^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$ has been measured by drop methods. Thermodynamic quantities for micellization of N-eicosyl pyridinium bromide in water have been calculated by polynominal equation.

  • The pitting behaviours of 304L and 316L stainless steels were investigated at $3^{\circ}C$ to $90^{\circ}C$ in 1 M solutions of NaCl, NaBr and NaI by potentiodynamic polarization. The temperature dependences of the pitting potential varied according to the anion, being near linear in bromide but exponential in chloride. As a result, at low temperatures grades 304L and 316L steel are most susceptible to pitting by bromide ions, while at high temperatures both stainless steels were more susceptible to pitting by small chloride anions than the larger bromide and iodide. Thus, increasing temperature appears to favour attack by smaller anions. This paper will attempt to rationalise both of the above findings in terms of the point defect model. Initial findings are that qualitatively this approach can be reasonably successful, but not at the quantitative level, possibly due to insufficient data on the mechanical properties of thin passive films.

  • A simple quantitative assay method for ribonuclease activity has been developed. This method is based on the decrease of fluorescence intensity emitted by the ethidium bromide bound to RNA due to the degradation of RNA by ribonuclease. The substrate RNA was reacted with ribonuclease A and the fluorescence intensity was measured after the addition of ethidium bromide. The intensity difference was calculated using a blank reaction mixture containing no RNase. Whole cellular RNA substrate produced a significant error and was not suitable for this assay method possibly because of local microheterogeniety caused by high molecular weight rRNA. but satisfying results were obtained with tRNA substrate. The intensity difference increased linearly by raising enzyme concentration up to $2{\times}10^{-4}$ Kunitz Units of ribonuclease A. More refined and reliable results were obtained by use of initial reaction velocities which were calculated from the plots of intensity difference vs time. A linear relationship between initial velocities and enzyme concentrations was observed up to 0.01 Kunitz Units of enzyme.

  • This paper was studied on the effect of temperature on corrosion of absorption refrigeration systems using $LiBr-H_2O$ working fluids. In the fresh water and 62 % lithium bromide solution at $70^{\circ}C$, polarization test of SS 400, Cu(C1220T-OL) and Al-Ni bronze was carried out. And polarization behavior, polarization resistance characteristics, corrosion rate(mmpy) and corrosion sensitivity of materials forming absorption refrigeration systems was considered. The main results are as following: (1) As the experimental temperature increase, the change of corrosion rate of Al-Ni bronze become duller than SS 400 and Cu in 62% lithium bromide solution. (2) According as corrosion environment is changed from fresh water to 62% lithium bromide solution, potential change of Cu and Al-Ni bronze become less noble than SS 400. (3) The corrosion sensitivity of Al-Ni bronze was duller than that of Cu and SS 400 in 62% LiBr solution.

  • Stoichiometry of hydrazine-bromate reaction has been studied in acid media of varying compositions, elucidating the effects of bromide and chloride ions in sulfuric acid, perchloric acid, hydrochloric acid, and hydrobromic acid at varying concentrations of hydrogen ion and cupric ion. The study shows that the number of red-ox equivalent consumed by one mole of hydrazine becomes practically 4.00 if the concentrations of bromide and hydrogen ions are kept higher than 0.1M and 6M, respectively. The presence of copper tends to reduce the bromate consumption by hydrazine in an irregular manner, but such an effect becomes unimportant if the concentrations of bromide and hydrogen ions are kept sufficiently high.

  • Evaporation cooling phenomena of droplets containing fire suppression agents on a hot metal surface were experimentally investigated. Solution of water containing potassium acetate (30-50% by weight) and sodium bromide (10-30% by weight) were used in the experiments, and surface temperatures were ranged from 70-116$^{\circ}C$. The evaporation time of the droplet on the heated surface was determined by using frame-by-frame analysis of the video records. It is found that the apparent evaporation time is shorter in turns of pure water, sodium bromide solution and potassium acetate solution. However, the time averaged heat flux is higher in turns of pure water, sodium bromide solution and potassium acetate solution. In-depth temperature variation of the hot metal does not occur significantly by the kinds of additive.

  • An experimental study of the absorption process of water vapor into Lithium Bromide solution was performed. For the purpose of development of high performance absorption chiller-heater utilizing Lithium Bromide solution as working fluid, the absorber is the most effective to improve the performance of an absorber because it requires the largest heat transfer area in an absorption chiller-heater system. This paper introduces bare tube and floral tube for the absorber of absorption chiller-heaters. floral tube has higher heat and mass transfer performance than bare tube conventionally used in absorbers and the it is expected to perform high heat and mass transfer. This paper will provide important information on the selection of absorber tubes in commercial absorption chiller -heaters.
