  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate non-work relating activities at work. To do this, this paper proposes and analyzes a simple theoretical model consisting of factors such as non-work relating smartphone usage during working hours, non-work relating coffee break during working hours, work after working hours, and job performance. Our findings are revealed as following: First, non-work-related coffee break has positive effect on performance. Second, non-work-related smartphone usage generally has negative effect on performance, but it has positive effect on performance in personal communication with co-workers. Third, work after working hours has negative effect on performance.

  • With the uncertainty of breaching mechanism, channel roughness, and elevation-discharge relationship at the downstream dam sites, the dam break wave from the hypothetical failure of Soyanggang dam is routed by DAMBRK. Simulation results show that lower region of Seoul will be flooded in 6~8 hours which has the elevation lower than 30~20m, and most part of Chuncheon will also be flooded. The peak discharge becomes approximately 70,000 CMS at Indogyo, and 220,000~340,000 CMS at Chuncheon. Sensitivity analysis shows that the inundation feature of Seoul will hardly be affected by the failure of downstream dams.

  • The applicability of stainless steel type 316N to the PZR surge-lines of OPR1000 and APR1400 is investigated. So far, strainless steel type 347 has been used for the OPR1000 surge-lines. The degree of improvement in the leak-before-break(LBB) and component design margin is evaluated when stainless steel type 347 is substituted by type 316N. For the study, the tensile and J-R tests on type 316N and type 347 stainless steels were performed at 316 and the microstructure of both types was examined. Stainless steel type 316N shows the higher values on the stress-strain curves, J-R curves and stress intensity, Sm, compared to those of type 347. Therefore, stainless steel type 316N ensures the higher LBB and component design margins. As a result, this study shows that stainless steel type 316N could substitute type 347 for the surge-lines of OPR1000 and APR1400.

  • In this study, a two-dimensional unstructured finite volume model based on the shallow-water equations and well-balanced HLLC scheme is developed. The model is verified by applying to various one- and two-dimensional problems related to the analyses of dam-break wave. The predicted numerical results agree very well with available analytical solutions and laboratory measurements. The model provides slightly more accurate results compared with the existing models.

  • Thermoplastic starch(TPS) was prepared from mixing starch and glycerol by twin extruder. The blends were then prepared from high density polyethylene(HDPE) and TPS. Mechanical properties, thermal properties, and morphology of the blends were investigated. Their biodegradability was also studied by using aerobic composting method(ISO14855). Tensile strength, modulus and elongation at break decreased as the content of TPS increased. In particular elongation at break decreased rapidly even at the lower content of TPS. The melting temperatures of the blends were not changed, which showed that HDPE and TPS were immiscible. The morphology of the fractured surface of blend films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). It was found that phases were separated. After composting for 45days, the biodegradability of the blends increased as the content of TPS increased.

  • The pH of coconut based activated carbon was changed by treating with NaOH and HNO3 and we have calculated the adsorption amounts of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide and methylmercaptan on the activated carbons using the break-through time which was obtained from break-through curve experiments. As a result of this study, the adsorption amounts of ammonia Has on the activated carbons were 2,6 mg/g, 17.2 mg/g and 31.6 mg/g with the pH 11, pH 7 and pH 3, respectively. These results indicated that the adsorption ability of ammonia on activated carbon was increased with decreasing the pH of activated carbon. Otherwise, in the cases of the adsorption experiment of hydrogen sulfide and methylmercaptan on the activated carbons with different pH. the activated carbon with pH 11 showed higher adsorption capacity than the activated carbons with pH 7 and pH 3. The adsorption amounts of hydrogen sulfide and methylmercaptan were 39.9 mg/g and 178 mg/g with pH 11, respectively. Finally, we analyzed the amount of ammonia delivered from 88 Lights cigarette made of triple filter which contained the activated carbon. The amount of ammonia delivered to smoke from the filter cigarette containing the activated carbon with pH 3 was 45.1${\mu}g$/cig. This value was lower 23.8 % than that from the activated carbon with the pH 11.

  • Background: The combined effect of the low energy electron (LEE) irradiation and $Cu^{2+}$ ion on DNA damage was investigated. Materials and Methods: Lyophilized pBR322 plasmid DNA films with various concentrations (1-15 mM) of $Cu^{2+}$ ion were independently irradiated by monochromatic LEEs with 5 eV. The types of DNA damage, single strand break (SSB) and double strand break (DSB), were separated and quantified by gel electrophoresis. Results and Discussion: Without electron irradiation, DNA damage was slightly increased with increasing Cu ion concentration via Fenton reaction. LEE-induced DNA damage, with no Cu ion, was only 6.6% via dissociative electron attachment (DEA) process. However, DNA damage was significantly increased through the combined effect of LEE-irradiation and Cu ion, except around 9 mM Cu ion. The possible pathways of DNA damage for each of these different cases were suggested. Conclusion: The combined effect of LEE-irradiation and Cu ion is likely to cause increasing dissociation after elevated transient negative ion state, resulting in the enhanced DNA damage. For the decrease of DNA damage at around 9-mM Cu ion, it is assumed to be related to the structural stabilization due to DNA inter- and intra-crosslinks via Cu ion.

  • The cut is placed high up in the section, the 1st sloping holes below the cut, and divided all the holes located below the 1st sloping holes into a certain area with longitudinal section, to lower pollution made from tunnel blasting. With the sequential blasting machine, after I first blasted holes around the cut holes by a pre-splitting method, blasted the cut area and the 1st sloping holes. The 1st and 2nd sloping holes divided areas are initiated gradually to free face upwards made by the cut. Especially, I pre-splinted contour holes previous blast the before sloping holes from the contours. The ground vibration from the earth surface just over the advance face decreased about 42.0% compare with the down blasting method under the condition of equal charge weight per delay. I controlled the crack and over break of the mother rock by pre-splitting contour holes before blast the first sloping holes from the contours. The peak values of noise and air blast by blasting decreased about 10dB more than the down blasting method. the noise and air blast diminished gradually as a round. The throw distance of the fly rock was decreased about 55%.

  • Folding performance is very important in box manufacturing process using paperboard. To evaluate the folding performance of various paperboards, we measured the folding moment and folding behavior at the different folding angle and rate conditions. When linerboard with grammage of $300\;g/m^2$ was folded up to $90^{\circ}$, the compression break and delamination of sheet were observed. The maximum folding moment was little affected by folding angle, but it was increased logarithmically with folding rate. And the effect of paperboard thickness was significant. The maximum folding moment of MD sample was higher than one of CD sample by 40%.
