Friction energy dissipative devices have been increasingly implemented as structural seismic damage protecting systems due to their excellent seismic energy dissipating capacity and high stiffness. This study develops rotational friction energy dissipative devices and verifies experimentally their cyclic response. Based on the understanding of the differences between the traditional linear-motion friction behavior and the rotational friction behavior, the configuration of the frictional surface was determined by investigating the characteristics of the micro-friction behavior. The friction surface suggested in this paper consists of brake-lining pads and stainless steel sheets and is normally stressed by high-strength bolts. Based upon these frictional characteristics of the selected interface, the rotational friction energy dissipative devices were developed. Bolt torque-bearing force tests, rotational friction tests of the suggested friction interfaces were carried out to identify their frictional behavior. Test results show that the bearing force is almost linearly proportional to the applied bolt torque and presents stable cyclic response regardless of the experimental parameters selected this testing program. Finally, cyclic tests of the rotational friction energy dissipative devices were performed to find out their structural characteristics and to confirm their stable cyclic response. The developed friction energy dissipative devices present very stable cyclic response and meet the requirements for displacement-dependent energy dissipative devices prescribed in ASCE/SEI 7-10.

Wind power and photovoltaic(PV) systems are getting into the spotlight as substitute energy. But problem is happened stability by speed change of wind and the power output of the sun's ray. The power output amount according to velocity of wind power system. System breakdown can happen at change of sudden velocity, typhoon and night. This paper shows a automatic tail safety brake controller based on feedback control using wind velocity. The operation of automatic tail safety controller verified by manual test. PV system is a energy change system by temperature of sun's ray and cell. Maximum power point tracking(MPPT) is used in PV systems to maximize the photovoltaic array output power. In existed PV system is low output and changeable DC voltage for boost and filtering the buck-boost converter use. But, this paper established deformed DC-DC converter. Changed Buck-boost converter's unlined output current to line output current using DC-DC converter. This is effect that reduce ripple of output current. Proved through an output waveform comparison experiment. Finally, tail safety brake controller is established to wind turbine system for stability elevation and DC-DC converter is established on PV system for stability output.

This study aimed to improve the performance of the KTX (Korea Train Express) brake system. To develop a braking disc-hub for the high-speed rail, the model performance was analyzed by finite element analysis, and the analysis results were verified using the braking test results. In addition, heat transfer analysis, thermal stress analysis, natural frequency analysis, and static analysis were conducted to examine the mechanical performance of the braking system. By deriving the design factors and conducting parametric analyses according to the shape of the hub, this study derived the optimal specifications that could improve heat dissipation and reduce weight. The cooling efficiency and structural performance of the optimization model were improved during braking compared to the existing model. It is expected that the design verification will be carried out through analyses of the optimal specifications so that it can be used in the development of brakes in railway vehicles and motor vehicles.
Gravel scattering that is generated during operation of high-speed railway vehicle is cause to damage of vehicle such as windows, axle protector and so on. Especially, those are frequently occurred in winter season when snow ice is generated easily. Above all, damage of vehicle windows has not only caused maintenance cost but also increased psychological anxiety of passengers. Various methods such as heating system using copper wire, heating jacket and heating air are applied to remove snow ice generated on the under-body of vehicle. However, the methods require much run-time and man power which can be low effectiveness of work. Therefore, this paper shows that large-area heating system was developed based on heating coat in order to fundamentally prevent snow ice damage on high-speed railway vehicle in the winter season. This system gives users high convenience because that can remotely control the heating system using IoT-based wireless communication. For evaluating the applicability to railroad sites, a field test on an actual high-speed railroad operation was conducted by applying these techniques to the brake cylinder of a high-speed railroad vehicle. From the results, it evaluated how input voltage and electric power per unit area of the heating specimen influences exothermic performance to draw the permit power condition for icing. In the future, if the system developed in the study is applied at the railroad site, it may be used as a technique for preventing all types of damages occurring due to snow ice in winter.
With the increasing attention to environmental pollution caused by particulate matter globally, the automotive industry has also become increasingly interested in particulate matter, especially particulate matter generated by automobile brake systems. Here, we designed a coating composition and analyzed its mechanical properties to reduce particulate matter generated by brake systems during braking of vehicles. We designed a composition to check the mechanical properties change by adding Cr3C2 and YSZ to the WC-Ni-Cr composite composition. Based on the designed composition, coating samples were manufactured, and the coating properties were analyzed by Vickers hardness and ball-on-disk tests. As a result of the experiments, we found that the hardness and friction coefficient of the coating increased as the amount of Cr3C2 added decreased. Furthermore, we found that the hardness of the coating layer decreased when YSZ was added at 20vol%, but the friction coefficient was higher than the composition with Cr3C2 addition.
Background: Significant technological development and changes happened in the tractor industries. Contrariwise, the test procedures of the major standard development organizations (SDO's) remained unchanged or with a little modification over the years, demanding new tractor test standards or improvement of existing ones for tractor performance, safety, and comfort. Purpose: This study focuses on reviewing the research trends regarding performance, safety and comfort evaluation of agricultural tractors. Based on this review, few recommendations were proposed to revise or improve the current test standards. Review: Tractor power take-off power test using the DC electric dynamometer reduced human error in the testing process and increased the accuracy of the test results. GPS signals were used to determine acceleration and converted into torque. High capacity double extended octagonal ring dynamometer has been designed to measure drawbar forces. Numerical optimization methodology has been used to design three-point hitch. Numerous technologies, driving strategies, and transmission characteristics are being considered for reducing emissions of gaseous and particulate pollutants. Engine emission control technology standards need to be revised to meet the exhaust regulations for agricultural tractors. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) program has been used to design Roll-Over Protective Structures (ROPS). Program and methodology has been presented for testing tractor brake systems. Whole-body vibration emission levels have been found to be very dependent upon the nature of field operation performed, and the test track techniques required development/adaptation to improve their suitability during standardized assessment. Emphasizes should be given to improve visibility and thermal environment inside the cab for tractor operator. Tractors need to be evaluated under electromagnetic compatibility test conditions due to large growing of electronic devices. Research trends reviewed in this paper can be considered for possible revision or improvement of tractor performance, safety, and comfort test standards.

DC transit system has been adopted in the metropolitan area, Korea since 1974. Electric multiple (EMU) in this system always reiterates that acceleration and retardation. When EMU decelerates using electric breaking, regenerative power occurs. Regenerative power can be consumed in vicinity EMU on the same line or in resistor. If DC transit system has inverter for reusing regenerative power, Energy efficiency in DC transit system and the replacement cycle of brake shoe in EMU will be increased and dust due to mechanical braking decreased. This paper present the developed inverter for regenerative power and its test equipment. Test for developed inverter is performed at test equipment and is divided into three items, which are regeneration mode, active filter mode, and system link test.
The effects of humidity on friction performance of automotive brake materials were studied using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Three different friction materials based on a simple formulation were investigated by changing the solid lubricant graphite, MoS$_2$, and Sb$_2$S$_3$. Friction materials without solid lubricants were also examined to study the effect of other ingredients in the matrix on humidity. The friction material containing graphite was strongly affected by the humidity showing lower friction coefficient at high humidity level than other conditions. On the other hand, the friction material containing MoS$_2$exhibited higher friction coefficient at initial stage under high humidity level. The friction material without solid lubricant or with Sb$_2$S$_3$ was not affected by humidity conditions. However, the friction material containing barite showed strong speed dependence.
In this paper, the safety of the crack existing between the load bearing part and the friction part in key slots was evaluated. The repetitive loading test considered impact damage was performed for the various crack models. Also, the probability of the crack propagation and the stress concentration at the crack tip were studied by using a FE analysis. By these method, safety of the disk was confirmed.

An integrated dynamic control (IDCF) with an active front steering system and an active rear braking system is proposed and developed in this study. A fuzzy logic controller is applied to calculate the desired additional steering angle and desired slip of the rear inner wheel. To validate IDCF system, an eight degree of freedom, nonlinear vehicle model and a sliding mode wheel slip controller are also designed. Various road conditions are used to test the performance. The results show that the yaw rate of IDCF vehicle followed the reference yaw rate and reduced the body slip angle, compared with uncontrolled vehicle. Thus, the IDCF vehicle had enhanced lateral stability and controllability.
