  • In this paper, we propose user-centric immersible and interactive electronic book based on the interface of tabletop display. Electronic book is usually used for users that want to read the text book with multimedia contents like video, audio, animation and etc. It is based on tabletop display platform then the conventional input device like keyboard and mouse is not essentially needed. Users can interact with the contents based on the gestures defined for the interface of tabletop display using hand finger touches then it gives superior and effective interface for users to use the electronic book interestingly. This interface supports multiple users then it gives more diverse effects on the conventional electronic contents just made for one user. In this paper our method gives new way for the conventional electronics book and it can define the user-centric gestures and help users to interact with the book easily. We expect our method can be utilized for many edutainment contents.

  • In this paper, we proposed a tangible RealBook based on the interface of TouchFace-V which is able to recognize multi-touch and hand gesture. The TouchFace-V is applied projection technology on a flat surface such as table, without constraint of space. The system's configuration is addressed installation, calibration, and portability issues that are most existing front-projected vision-based tabletop display. It can provide hand touch and gesture applying computer vision by adopting tracking technology without sensor and traditional input device. The RealBook deals with the combination of each advantage of analog sensibility on texts and multimedia effects of e-book. Also, it provides digitally created stories that would differ in experiences and environments with interacting users' choices on the interface of the book. We proposed e-book that is new concept of electronic book; named RealBook, different from existing and TouchFace-V interface, which can provide more direct viewing, natural and intuitive interactions with hand touch and gesture.

  • Recently, with the activation of eBook services, books are being published simultaneously as physical books and digitized eBooks. Paper books are more expensive than e-books due to printing and distribution costs, so demand for relatively inexpensive e-books is increasing. There are cases where previously published physical books cannot be digitized due to the circumstances of the publisher or author, so there is a movement among individual users to digitize books that have been published for a long time. However, existing research has only studied the advancement of the pre-processing process that can improve text recognition before applying OCR technology, and there are limitations to digitization depending on the condition of the book. Therefore, support for book digitization services depending on the condition of the physical book is needed. need. In this paper, we propose a method to support digitalization services according to the status of physical books held by book owners. Create images by scanning books and extract text information from the images through OCR. We propose a method to recover text that cannot be extracted depending on the state of the book using BERT, a natural language processing deep learning model. As a result, it was confirmed that the recovery method using BERT is superior when compared to RNN, which is widely used in recommendation technology.

  • In this paper, we describe about interactive electronic book utilizing tabletop display interface and digi-pet. Because of this system can define a lot of gestures using touch point of finger, help that user experiences electronic book effectively more than existent input device. Also, support 1 users in 1 input device in existent mode, but this system can expect various effect because support Multi-user. The digi-pet(digital pet) is physical tools that convey emotion between tabletop display platform and user. And this shows various results acting as assistance because becomes master of story of imagination and participate directly on talk and makes change of story. In this paper, we described about oriented electronic book system the future that combines tabletop display and Digi-pet. This system is expected that the usefulness is increased by leaps and bounds along with technology development forward.

  • We evaluated the usability of two kinds types of recently commercialized e-books through an analysis of their protocols, compared the time required to read an e-book with that for a paper book, and compared text display sizes that were easy to read for aged and young readers, under identical conditions. This showed clear problems with the usability of e-books for aged and young readers. It was found that it took longer for aged readers to read text in an e-book than for young readers, and that the size of text that aged readers found easy to read was different than for young readers.

  • It is said that first year of e-Paper was 2004, when "sigma-Book" (LCD) by Panasonic and e-Book "Librie" (EPD) by Sony were introduced in the market. After that, many prototypes of e-Paper have followed in 2005. And also the related technologies have been evolved. I summarize the present status of e-Paper technologies and then propose the future trend.

  • The demand of reflective display devices are increasing by widespread of electronic books. In this study, the emotional and reading state for reading material of paper books, reflective display, and LCD display were compared to each other. In order to determine the consumers' sensibility of E-ink e-book the emotional assessment of three different types of books was evaluated following with readability assessment and preference experiment. These experiments controlled contents on the screen by using masks to hide hardware aspects of contents. The results of the sensibility reactions by emotional-vocabulary-experiment using semantic scale show that E-ink is closer to paper than LCD. The readability and preference questionnaire for the experimental results show that e-ink is preferred than LCD and paper was preferred or seem similar to E-ink. The conclusions shows that E-ink and paper has similar sensibility and E-ink e-book is expected to replace paper books.

  • e-book is digital contents using IT technology instead of paper. It is carried in Internet and displayed wish Viewer of PC, PDA or terminal. The Open eBook specification is to provide a specification for representing the content of electronic books to these viewers. The specification is based on HTML and XML, the same core languages that define the World Wide Web, and is designed to allow publishers and authors to deliver their material in a single format. In this paper, we design and implement the viewer that can support OEB(Open eBook) standard. Viewer is composed parser part and display part. In audition, we add some functions - the book shelf, the bookmark and the dictionary - for convenience of readers.

  • Recently, with the rapid development of information technology the field of e-book market is growing rapidly. The choice of an e-book device to improve user's comprehension is one of very important elements. The effectiveness evaluation between e-books and paper books has been studied previously, but there have not been progressed actively researches on the size of e-book devices based on user's comprehension. Considering these aspects, we in this paper selected e-book devices such as currently available PDA, netbook, and notebook, and then carried out the experiment about which device has the highest user's comprehension depending on the size of e-book devices. Understanding and memory about the content on the display were set as main factors in order to evaluate user's comprehension. We prepared in advance multiple examples of e-books and English words with similar difficulty, and evaluated user's comprehension through answering questions for each example after doing the experiment. 90 undergraduate students who use most widely e-books participated in the experiment, and the result was analyzed using SPSS statistical package. The experiment result showed that user's comprehension was higher in e-book device with middle size rather than the one with big size in display size.

  • 'Digilog Book' dealing with the combination of each advantage of analog sensibility on texts and digital sensation on virtual reality is one of the noble applications of U-book. Based on contents from books, enhancing 3D immersive display enable readers to enjoy various experiences with multisensory feedback provided. Also, 'Digilog Book' provides digitally created stories that would project different experiences and environments interacting users' choices on the interface of the book. This study focuses on developing users friendly implementation tools providing more interaction between digitally generated stories and digitally generated interface so that interaction between virtual reality and actual realty is expanded through simulating contexts and extents. From the application scenario 'Digilog Book' would perform as a storytelling tool with developing subordinated elements such as context structure, screen structure, definition of writing function, writing interface, writing system structure, etc. Therefore, this study would become a significance to direct and indicate the development of writing techniques on virtual reality back to life through digitally augmented reality.
