  • A 3-weeks feeding trial with 288 laying hens were conducted to determine the efficacy of lecithin-free egg yolk at different levels of dietary Ca on performance and Ca absorption. Laying hens were divided into 6 groups according to calcium level and testing agent; 0% calcium feed (A), 0.2% calcium feed (B), 0.4% calcium feed (C, normal feed), 0.6% calcium feed (D), 0.4% calcium feed + 0.2% egg byproduct (C+0.2), 0.4% calcium feed + 0.4% egg byproduct (C+0.4). The final body weight gain of C+0.2 and C+0.4 groups were higher by 1.5% and 7.4% respectively than group C. Tibia ash contents did not show significantly difference, but calcium contents increase (p<0.05) in C+0.2 and C+0.4 groups. Parallel undecalcified tibia joint sections were stained for calcium absorption by the von Kossa's stain. This result show that lecithin free egg byproduct supplementation to normal calcium feed improved growth performance and calcium utilization in laying hens.

  • As a part of basic investigation for utilizing cultured eel and by-products as a food source, a mineral contents and fatty acid composition of bone and flesh were investigated. Flesh of cultured eel was higher in moisture and crude protein content, and lower in crude ash and lipid content than those of the bone. Mineral of bone were measured 220.72 mg/100 g of Ca, 169.87 mg/100 g of P, 117.05 mg/100 g of Na,92.75 mg/100g of K, 6.18 mg/100g of Cu,5.02 mg/100 g of Zn,2.56 mg/100 g of Fe, and flesh were measured 120.23 mg/100g of CL 150.36 mg/100 g of P, 136.36 mg/100 g of Na, 89.36 mg/100 g of K, 4.02 mg/100 g of Cu, 1.71 mg/100 g of Zn,2.03 mg/100 g of Fe. The major fatty acid in bone and flesh of cultured eel were generally oleic acid $(44.40\%, 43.76\%)$, palmitic acid $(24.19\%,\;21.30\%)$, palmitoleic acid $(8.18\%,\;7.72\%)$, eicosapentaenoic acid $(5.72\%,\;6.65\%)$, myristic acid $(3.96\%,4.34\%)$ in order. The fstty acid composition of total lipid was no significant difference among bone and flesh of cultured eel, However, bone of cultured eel revealed higher content in saturated and monounsaturated fatty acid, while lower in polyunsaturated fatty acid than those of the flesh. It is shown that cultured eel contains various nutrients such as protein, minerals, unsaturated fatty acid, so cultured eel can be regarded as a highly nutritious food.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effect of dietary boron supplementation and calcium levels on calcium and bone metabolism in ovariectomized female rats. The experimental group classified ovariectomized group(O) and sham operation group (S). The two groups were then each randomly divided into flour sub-groups and fed experimental diets consisting in two levels of calcium and at each level of calcium, there were boron supplemented group and non-supplemented group. Calcium levels were either 0.2%(low calcium group: L) or 1.2%(high calcium group: H). The level of boron in the diet for the boron supplemented groups(B) was 100$\mu\textrm{g}$/g diet. The experimental period was six weeks. The average food intake were not statistically significantly different in all of eight groups. The increase in weights of rats was observed only in ovariectonized and sham control rats(low ca without boron supplemented). The rest of the groups lost weight significantly during the experimental period ranging from 26.94g to 44.34g. Significant higher calcium intakes were observed in high calcium groups, regardless of boron supplementation during experimental period. Urinary calcium excretion was not affected either by ovariectomy or diets on the first, third and sixth week of feeding. Apparent calcium absorption rates were not different among the groups on first week, whereas noticeable increase was observed in low calcium groups at third and sixth weeks. Femur wet and dry weight, and calcium contents of femur were higher in low calcium groups. whereas femur bone density was higher low calcium with boron supplementation groups than low calcium groups. Scapular density did not show any significant differences among all groups. Despite there were no differences in the activities of alkaline phosphatase by boron supplementation, boron supplemetation appeared to cause higher femur density. There results suggest that in both of sham-operated and ovariectomized rats low calcium did not influence greatly bone status of rats and boron increased bone density.

  • Ti-6Al-4V alloy have been used for dental implant because of its excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties. However, the integration of such implant in bone was not in good condition to achieve improved osseointergraiton. For solving this problem, calcium phosphate (CaP) has been applied as coating materials on Ti alloy implants for hard tissue applications because its chemical similarity to the inorganic component of human bone, capability of conducting bone formation and strong affinity to the surrounding bone tissue. Various metallic elements are known to play an important role in the bone formation and also affect bone mineral characteristics. Especially, Zn is essential for the growth of the human and Zn coating has a major impact on the improvement of corrosion resistance. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a promising technology to produce porous and firmly adherent inorganic Zn containing TiO2(Zn-TiO2)coatings on Ti surface, and the a mount of Zn introduced in to the coatings can be optimized by altering the electrolyte composition. In this study, effect of Zn content on the corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy after plasma electrolytic oxidation were studied by SEM, EDS, XRD, AC impedance, and potentiodynamic polarization test. The potentiodynamic polarization and AC impedance tests for corrosion behaviors were carried out in 0.9% NaCl solution at similar body temperature using a potentiostat with a scan rate of 1.67 mV/s and potential range from -1500 mV to +2000 mV. Also, AC impedance was performed at frequencies ranging from 10 MHz to 100 kHz for corrosion resistance.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to clarify the influence of training with a different kind of lesion on the performance of a target model. Materials and Methods: A total of 310 patients(211 men, 99 women; average age, 47.9±16.1 years) were selected and their panoramic images were used in this study. We created a source model using panoramic radiographs including mandibular radiolucent cyst-like lesions (radicular cyst, dentigerous cyst, odontogenic keratocyst, and ameloblastoma). The model was simulatively transferred and trained on images of Stafne's bone cavity. A learning model was created using a customized DetectNet built in the Digits version 5.0 (NVIDIA, Santa Clara, CA). Two machines(Machines A and B) with identical specifications were used to simulate transfer learning. A source model was created from the data consisting of ameloblastoma, odontogenic keratocyst, dentigerous cyst, and radicular cyst in Machine A. Thereafter, it was transferred to Machine B and trained on additional data of Stafne's bone cavity to create target models. To investigate the effect of the number of cases, we created several target models with different numbers of Stafne's bone cavity cases. Results: When the Stafne's bone cavity data were added to the training, both the detection and classification performances for this pathology improved. Even for lesions other than Stafne's bone cavity, the detection sensitivities tended to increase with the increase in the number of Stafne's bone cavities. Conclusion: This study showed that using different lesions for transfer learning improves the performance of the model.

  • This study examined the effects of calcium (Ca) gluconate on collagen-induced DBA mouse rheumatoid arthritis (CIA). A single daily dose of 200, 100 or 50 mg/kg Ca gluconate was administered orally to male DBA/1J mice for 40 days after initial collagen immunization. To ascertain the effects administering the collagen booster, CIA-related features (including body weight, poly-arthritis, knee and paw thickness, and paw weight increase) were measured from histopathological changes in the spleen, left popliteal lymph node, third digit and the knee joint regions. CIA-related bone and cartilage damage improved significantly in the Ca gluconate-administered CIA mice. Additionally, myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels in the paw were reduced in Ca gluconate-treated CIA mice compared to CIA control groups. The level of malondialdehyde (MDA), an indicator of oxidative stress, decreased in a dose-dependent manner in the Ca gluconate group. Finally, the production of IL-6 and TNF-${\alpha}$, involved in rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis, were suppressed by treatment with Ca gluconate. Taken together, these results suggest that Ca gluconate is a promising candidate anti-rheumatoid arthritis agent, exerting anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and immunomodulatory effects in CIA mice.

  • In the present study, three types of teriyaki sauce were prepared using chicken bone and eel bone, which are commonly used as the primary ingredient of teriyaki sauce, as well as codfish bone, which has various functions. The and analyzed their quality characteristics of the different types of teriyaki sauce were then compared through physiochemical and sensory evaluation. The results of this study were as follows. The water content was lowest and the ash content was highest in teriyaki sauce that was prepared using chicken bone as the primary ingredient. In addition, the Ca, K, Mg, Na and P content were highest in the teriyaki sauce that was prepared using chicken bone as the primary ingredient. The total free amino acid content was highest in teriyaki sauce prepared using chicken bone, followed by sauces prepared using codfish bone and eel bone. The levels of free amino acids evaluated in this study occurred in the following order for all teriyaki sauces: glutamic acid > aspartic acid > leucine. When the sensory evaluation was conducted, teriyaki sauce prepared using chicken bone as the main ingredient was found to be best, followed by sauce prepared using codfish bone in terms of palatability and viscosity among descriptive scales, and smell and general preference among hedonic scales. The results of this study suggest that teriyaki sauce could be produced using codfish bone instead of chicken bone, which would enable production of a high value-added product through the use of a common byproduct. This would result in the efficient use of unused resources, prevention of environmental pollution and supply of an inexpensive that could be widely used in the food processing and food service industries.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the antler induction rate and production by artificial induction of antlerogenesis using $CaCl_2$ injection on both periosteum around area of horn development for the frontal bone of a female elk deer which do not have an antler. The results obtained from eleven deers for verifying effect of the female's antler induction on reproduction are as follows: The antler development induction by $CaCl_2$injection is higher on the treatments of 30 and 50% of $CaCl_2$ injection than those on the treatments of 15 %. The antler production is higher on the 30 % $CaCl_2$ injection than those of 15 and 50 % $CaCl_2$ injection. For 30 % $CaCl_2$ injection, the antler production is higher in 1.5 and 2.0 ml of % $CaCl_2$ injection than the other injection level. After the induction of antler development, the birth rate is not changed as of 75~100 %, while the regeneration rate of the antler which was not constant in approximately 45 % for five among eleven female deer. With these results, we assume that the injection concentration and amount of $CaCl_2$ injection are around 30 % and 1.5 and 2.0 ml level which can be not only most effective conditions for the antler induction rate and production, but also these conditions do not influence the reproduction during the period of the female elk's antler development induction.
