Magneto-rheological fluids and magneto-strictive materials are of the well-known smart materials which are used to control and reduce the vibrations of the structures. Vibration analysis of a smart annular three-layered plate is provided in this work. MR fluids are used as the core's material type and the face sheets are made from MS materials and is assumed they are fully bonded to each other. The structure is rested on visco-Pasternak foundation and also is subjected to a transverse magnetic field. The governing motion equations are derived based on CPT and employing Hamilton's principle and are solved via GDQ as a numerical method for various boundary conditions. Effect of different parameters on the results are considered and discussed in detail. One of the salient features of this work is the consideration of MR fluids as the core, MS materials as the faces, and all of them under magnetic field. The outcomes of this study may be led to design and create smart structures such as sensors, actuators and also dampers.
The purpose of this study is to prepare the hardness of polyester(PET) fabric by thermal bonding with low melting component of bicomponent fiber and to describe the change of physical properties of thermal bonded PET fabrics. The PET fabrics were prepared with regular PET fiber as warp and bicomponent fiber as weft. The bicomponent fiber of sheath-core type were composed with a regular PET core and low melting PET sheath. The thermal bonding of PET fabric was carried out in pin tenter from 120 to $195^{\circ}C$ temperature range for 60 seconds. In this study, we investigated the physical properties and melting behavior of PET fiber and the effect of the temperature of the pin tenter on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties. Melting peak of warp showed the thermal behavior of general PET fiber. However, melting peak of weft fiber(bicomponent fiber) showed the double melting peak. The thermal bonding of the PET fabric formed at about temperature of lower melting peak. The optimum thermal bonding conditions for PET fabrics was applied at $190{\sim}195^{\circ}C$ for 60seconds by pin tenter. On the other hand, the tensile strength of the PET fabric decreased with an increasing temperature of thermal bonding.
The purpose of this study is to fabricate the flame retardant polyester fabric by thermal bonding with low melting component of flame retardant bicomponent filament(LMFRPC) and to describe the characteristics of thermal bonded fabrics. The fabrics were prepared with flame retardant polyester filaments(FRP) as warp and blended filaments of FRP and LMFRPC as weft. The LMFRPC have a sheath and a core wherein the core comprises a flame retardant polyester and the sheath comprises a thermoplastic polyester of low-melting point. In this study, we investigated the physical properties, melting behavior of filament, the effect of the component of FRP and LMFRPC on the thermal bonding, mechanical properties. Melting peak of LMFRPC showed the double melting peak. The thermal bonding of the fabric formed at lower melting peak temperature of bicomponent filament of LMFRPC. The optimum thermal bonding conditions for fabrics was applied at about $170^{\circ}C$ for 60 seconds by pin tenter. On the other hand, the tensile strength, elongation, and LOI of the fabric increased with an increasing component of FRP of weft.
A new type of retrof=t anchor bolt that uses deformed reinforcing bars and a commercial adhesive was developed and then an experimental study was carried out to determine the behavior of the anchors in direct shear. The steel-to-concl몫ete interface was tested. Plain concrete slabs with about 20-MPa compressive strength were used for 23 direct shear tests performed Test variables were anchor diameters (D16, D22. and D29) and edge effect. Three different shear tests were completed: simple shear, edge shear where anchors were pulled against the concrete core, and edge shear where anchors were pushed against the concrete cover In the simple and the edge shear tests where the anchors were pulled against the core, the theoretical dowel strength determined by (equation omitted) was achieved but with relatively large displacements. The shear resistances increased with the increasing displacements. In the edge shear test where the anchors were pushrd against the cover, the peak shear strengths signif=cantly lower than the theoretical dowel strength were determined due to cracks developed in concrete when the edge distance was 80 mm. The peak strengths were about 50% of the dowel strength for Dl6 bar. and about 25% or less of the dowel strength for D22 and D29 bars. Test results revealed that the edge shear where the anchor was pushed against the cover controled.
A series of amphiphilic dendrons n-18 (n: generation number, 18: octadecyl chain) based on an aliphatic polyether denderitic core and octadecyl peripheries were synthesized using a convergent dendron synthesis consisting of a Williamson etherification and hydroboration/oxidation reactions. This study investigated their thermal and self-assembling behavior in the solid state using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) absorption spectroscopy, and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). DSC indicated that the melting transition and the corresponding heat of the fusion of the octadecyl chain decreased with each generation. FT-IR showed that the hydroxyl focal groups were hydrogen-bonded with one another in the solid state. DSC and FT-IR indicated microphase-separation between the hydrophilic dendritic cores and hydrophobic octadecyl peripheries. SAXS data analysis in the solid state suggested that the lower-generation dendrons 1-18 and 2-18 self-assemble into lamellar structures based upon a bilayered packing of octadecyl peripheries. In contrast, the analyzed data of higher-generation dendron 3-18 is consistent with 2-D oblique columnar structures, which presumably consist of elliptical cross sections. The data obtained could be rationalized by microphase-separation between the hydrophilic dendritic core and hydrophobic octadecyl peripheries, and the degree of interfacial curvature associated with dendron generation.
In this article, the surface stress effects on the buckling analysis of the annular sandwich plate is developed. The proposed plate is composed of two face layers made of carbon nanotubes (CNT) reinforced composite with assuming of fully bonded to functionally graded porous core. The generalized rule of the mixture is employed to predict the mechanical properties of the microcomposite sandwich plate. The derived potentials energy based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and modified couple stress theory (MCST) is solved by employing the Ritz method. An exact analytical solution is presented to calculate the critical buckling loads of the annular sandwich plate. The predicted results are validated by carrying out the comparison studies for the buckling analysis of annular plates with those obtained by other analytical and finite element methods. The effects of various parameters such as material length scale parameter, core thickness to total thickness ratio (hc/h), surface elastic constants based on surface stress effect, various boundary condition and porosity distributions, size of the internal pores (e0), Skempton coefficient and elastic foundation on the critical buckling load have been studied. The results can be served as benchmark data for future works and also in the design of materials science, injunction high-pressure micropipe connections, nanotechnology, and smart systems.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the tensile bond strength of In-Ceram alumina core treat-ed by ion assisted reaction(IAR). Ion assisted reaction is a prospective surface modification technique without damage by a keV low energy ion beam irradiation in reactive gas environments or reactive ion itself. 120 In-Ceram specimens were fabricated according to manufacturer's directions and divided into six groups by surface treatment methods of In-Ceram alumina core. SD group(control group): sandblasting SL group: sandblasting + silane treatment SC group: sandblasting + Siloc treatment IAR I group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with argon ion and oxygen gas IAR II group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with oxygen ion and oxygen gas IAR III group: sandblasting + Ion assisted reaction with oxygen ion only For measuring of tensile bond strength, pairs of specimens within a group were bonded with Panavia 21 resin cement using special device secured that the film thickness was $80{\mu}m$. The results of tensile strength were statistically analyzed with the SPSS release version 8.0 programs. Physical change like surface roughness of In-Ceram alumina core treated by ion assistad reaction was evaluated by Contact Angle Measurement, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy; chemical surface change was evaluated by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The results as follows: 1. In tensile bond strength, there were no statistically significant differences with SC group, IAR groups and SL group except control group(P<0.05). 2. Contact angle measurement showed that wettability of In-Ceram alumina core was enhanced after IAR treatment. 3. SEM and AFM showed that surface roughness of In-Ceram alumina core was not changed after IAR treatment. 4. XPS showed that IAR treatment of In-Ceram alumina core was enabled to create a new functional layer. A keV IAR treatment of In-Ceram alumina core could enhanced tensile bond strength with resin cement. In the future, this ion assisted reaction may be used effectively in various dental materials as well as in In-Ceram to promote the bond strength to natural tooth structure.
In severe loss of coolant accidents (LOCA), similar to those experienced at Fukushima Daiichi and Three Mile Island Unit 1, the zirconiumalloy fuel claddingmaterials are rapidlyheateddue to nuclear decay heating and rapid exothermic oxidation of zirconium with steam. This heating causes the cladding to rapidly react with steam, lose strength, burst or collapse, and generate large quantities of hydrogen gas. Although maintaining core cooling remains the highest priority in accident management, an accident tolerant fuel (ATF) design may extend coping and recovery time for operators to restore emergency power, and cooling, and achieve safe shutdown. An ATF is required to possess high resistance to steam oxidation to reduce hydrogen generation and sufficient mechanical strength to maintain fuel rod integrity and core coolability. The initiative undertaken by Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) is to demonstrate the feasibility of developing an ATF cladding with capability to maintain its integrity in $1,200-1,500^{\circ}C$ steam for at least 24 hours. This ATF cladding utilizes thin-walled Mo-alloys coated with oxidation-resistant surface layers. The basic design consists of a thin-walled Mo alloy structural tube with a metallurgically bonded, oxidation-resistant outer layer. Two options are being investigated: a commercially available iron, chromium, and aluminum alloy with excellent high temperature oxidation resistance, and a Zr alloy with demonstratedcorrosionresistance.Asthese composite claddings will incorporate either no Zr, or thin Zr outer layers, hydrogen generation under severe LOCA conditions will be greatly reduced. Key technical challenges and uncertainties specific to Moalloy fuel cladding include: economic core design, industrial scale fabricability, radiation embrittlement, and corrosion and oxidation resistance during normal operation, transients, and severe accidents. Progress in each aspect has been made and key results are discussed in this document. In addition to assisting plants in meeting Light Water Reactor (LWR) challenges, accident-tolerant Mo-based cladding technologies are expected to be applicable for use in high-temperature helium and molten salt reactor designs, as well as nonnuclear high temperature applications.
The paper describes the results of an experimental and numerical investigation into the structural and damage response of sandwich composites to low-velocity impact. Sandwich panels consisting of laminated composite skins with three different layups bonded to a PVC foam core were subjected to impact at various energy levels corresponding to barely visible impact damage (BVID) in the impacted skins. Damage assessment analyses were performed on the impacted panels to characterise the extent and the nature of the major failure mechanisms occurring in the skins. The data collected during the experimental analyses were finally used to assess the predictive capabilities of an FE tool recently developed by the authors for detailed simulation of impact damage in composite sandwich panels. Good agreement was observed between experimental results and model predictions in terms of structural response to impact, global extent of damage and typical features of individual damage mechanisms.

In this paper, solenoid-type 3-D passives (inductors and transformers) have been designed, fabricated, and characterized by using electroplating techniques, wire bonding techniques, multi-layer thick photoresist, and low temperature processes which are compatible with semiconductor circuitry fabrication. Two different fabrication approaches are performed to develop the solenoid-type 3-D passives and relationship of performance characteristics and geometry is also deeply investigated such as windings, cross-sectional area of core, spacing between windings, and turn ratio. Fully integrated inductor has a quality factor of 31 at 6 GHz, an inductance of 2.7 nH, and a self resonant frequency of 15.8 GHz. Bonded wire inductor has a quality factor of 120, an inductance of 20 nH, and a self resonant frequency of 8 GHz. Integrated transformers with turn ratios of 1:1 and n:l have the minimum insertion loss of about 0.6 dB and the wide bandwidth of a few GHz.
