체질량지수에 따른 일부 대학생의 체형인식도와 식행동에 관한 연구 (Body Image Recognition and Dietary Behaviors of College Students According to the Body Mass Index)

  • This study was performed to investigate the body image perception by BMI and the dietary behaviors in 803 college students(408 males and 395 females). The degree of obesity was divided into an underweight group with BMI less than $18.5kg/m^2$, a normal group with BMI of $18.5{\sim}22.9kg/m^2$, an overweight group with BMI of $23{\sim}24.9kg/m^2$ and an obese group with BMI over $25.0kg/m^2$. The average ages of subjects were 22.9 years in males and 20.2 years in females. The average weight and height of male subjects were 175.3 cm and 69.6 kg, respectively and those of female subjects were 162.5 cm and 52.0 kg, respectively. The average BMIs of male and female subjects were $22.6kg/m^2$ and $19.7kg/m^2$, respectively. The distribution of subjects who perceived their current body image as ideal body image was 25.7% in males and 10.9% in females, showing that the body image satisfaction of male subjects was 1.5 times higher than that of female subjects. Body image perception for their own bodies was mostly shown as the average or standard shape both in males and females with 64.2% and 54.2%, respectively, but males showed a higher perception rate than females and 31.1% of females and 19.5% of males perceived their bodies as lean shape(p<0.01). The body image satisfaction was 4.20 in males and 3.70 in females, showing more satisfaction in the male subjects(p<0.001). The correlation between body image and physical variables in male subjects indicated that CBI and IBI showed statistically significant correlation and also BMI showed statistically significant correlation with IBI(p<0.001) and CBI(p<0.001). The frequency of eating out increased as the frequency of skipping meals increased(p<0.001) and the frequency of having snacks increased as the frequency of eating out increased(p<0.01). The correlation between body image and physical variables in female subjects showed that CBI and IBI(p<0.001) had statistically significant correlation. Body weight showed statistically significant correlation with CBI(p<0.001), BMI(p<0.001) and height(p<0.001). The frequency of eating out increased as height(p<0.01) and the frequency of skipping meals(p<0.001) increased. When both male and female subjects wanted leaner body shapes, they preferred much leaner shapes despite their current body images belonging in the normal range. Additionally subjects preferred the body image in the normal range in cases when their current body images were lean. In particular, more female subjects had strong desires to become leaner in their body images than male subjects, which could be analyzed as a risk factor for physical him. From the above results, it is considered that both male and female subjects need to establish proper recognition and dietary behaviors for their body images and also need nutritional education and counseling for desirable weight control methods.

록시스로마이신의 체내동태에 대한 이종간 예측모델 (Interspecies Scaling of Roxithromycin Pharmacokinetics Across Species)

  • 본 연구에서는 랫트, 토끼, 닭, 개 등의 각종 동물들의 약물동태학적 파라미터를 이용하여 록시스로마이신의 이종간 예측모델을 수립하였으며, 이때 약물동태학적 파라미터는 반감기, 청소율, 분포용적, 평균체류시간 등을 이용하였다. 이종간 약물동태학적 파라미터의 변화 예측은 체중과 지수적 상관관계 $(Y=aW^b)$를 이용하였으며, 이때 Y는 약물동태학적 파라미터, W는 체중, a는 allometric coefficient를 의미한다. B는 약물동태학적 파라미터와 체중간의 상관관계를 의미하는 비례상수이다. 랫트, 토끼, 닭, 개 등의 약물동태학적 파라미터인 분포용적, 청소율, 반감기, 평균체류시간 등은 체중과 유의한 선형관계를 나타내었다. 본 연구에 의해 수립된 록시스로마이신에 대한 이종간 약물동태학적 파라미터의 이종간 예측모델은 다양한 종의 동물종에 대한 좀 더 정확한 용법용량을 구하는 기초자료로 이용할 수 있을 것이다.

A Study of the Anthropometric Indices and Eating Habits of Female College Students

  • A study was conducted to investigate the anthropometric indices, fat distribution, eating habits and levels of daily physical activity based on the body mass index (BMI ; kg/㎡) of 180 female college students. This stady was based on survey 2001 using a questionnaire. The results are as follow ; The mean age, height, weight and BMI were 20.41 ${\pm}$ 1.82 years, 161.86 ${\pm}$ 4.51cm, 53.49 ${\pm}$ 7.02kg, and 20.43 ${\pm}$ 2.65kg/㎡, respectively. The group with BMI of under 20 (the lean group) comprised 48.9% : the group with BMI of 20 to 25 (the normal group) comprised 44.4% and the group with BMI of over 25 (the obese group) comprised 6.7% of the subjects. Even though the lean and the normal groups were determined according to BMI. 12.5% of the lean group and 31.3% of the normal group had more than 25% body fat. Of the students, 11.5% of the lean group, 25.0% of the normal group and 58.3% of the obese group had of more than 0.8 waist/Hip Ratio (WHR). The medical problems suffered by the subjects were constipation (24.4%), gastroenteritis (20.6%), anemia(15.0%) and edema(13.3%), which was a result of their eating habits. Out of all the subjects, 27.2% ingested their meals irregularly, 74.4% skipped breakfast, and 92.4% of the lean group, 89.2% of the normal group and 81.8% of the obese group ingested snacks on a daily basis. Their favorite types of snacks were cookies breads and cakes (33.7%), spicy sliced rice cakes pork sausage and boiled fish cakes (18.5%), fruits (15.2%), juices and sodas (13.5%) and hamburgers and pizzas (3.9%). Their consumption of high calorie and processed foods was high, Of the subjects, 38.9% ate out daily. 45.1% had tried weight loss. Those with large upper bodies comprised 11.5%, large intermediate bodies 18.5% and large lower bodies 69.0%. Most of the students were dissatisfied with their body snaps. Of the subjects, 95.1% exercised irregularly. Daily physical activity tended to increase significantly with an increase in BMI : the lean group's average energy consumption was 1509.40㎉ the normal group's was 1792.21㎉ and the obese group's was 2334.63㎉, which were below the recommended value. This study suggests that the maintenance of an ideal weight, the improvement of eating habits and adequate exercise are needed for female college students to improve their health and nutritional status. 총알고둥에서 카드뮴과 아연의 축적과 제거 (Accumulation and Elimination of Cadmium and Zinc in Littorina brevicula)

  • 카드뮴과 아연에 각각 그리고 동시에 노출한 총알고둥(Littorina brevicula)에서 중금속의 생체내 축적, 제거 및 세포내 분포 양상을 조사하였다. 총알고둥을 카드뮴 400 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L 또는 아연 3000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/L에 각각 90일간 노출하였을 경우, 각 중금속의 축적량은 노출기간에 따라 증가하였으며, 70일 이후에는 더 이상 축적량이 증가하지 않았다. 카드뮴과 아연을 동시에 노출하였을 경우에는 각각의 중금속에 노출하였을 경우에 비해 아연의 축적량은 증가하였으나, 카드뮴의 축적량은 감소하였다. 노출실험에 이어 수행한 42일간의 청장실험 결과, 카드뮴은 체외로 제거되지 않았으나, 아연은 제거되었다. 특히 카드뮴과 아연에 동시 노출한 총알고둥의 경우에 아연은 더 신속히 제거되었다. 총알고둥을 카드뮴과 아연에 각각 70일 동안 노출한 후, 체내로 흡수된 카드뮴의 약 60%가 soluble fraction에 분포하고 있었으며, 아연의 75%는 insoluble fraction에 분포하고 있었다. 이러한 경향은 카드뮴과 아연의 동시 노출시에도 유사하게 나타났다. 카드뮴과 아연은 soluble part내의 리간드(ligand) 와의 결합 양상에서도 차이를 나타냈는데, 카드뮴은 90% 이상이 약 6.5 kDa크기의 MBP-1(Metal-Binding Protein-1)과 결합하고 있었으나, 아연은 HMW(High molecular weight fraction, >60 kDa), MBP-1, MBP-2, LMW(Low molecular weight fraction <1 kDa)에 고루 분포하는 것으로 나타났다.

한국(韓國), 중국(中國), 중국(中國) 조선족(朝鮮族) 의류치수(衣類値數) 비교(比較) 연구(硏究) (A Study on the Comparison of Apparel Size among Korean, Chinese and Chosunjok College Women)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure Korean, Chinese and Chosunjok college women's body part sizes, and then, classify their body shapes according to the drop value(hip circumference-chest circumference) as well as their statures, and thereupon, comparatively analyze the statistical distribution of their major body part measurements and thereby, provide for some basic data useful to the development of quality fitting apparels exportable to China. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; Most of Korean and Chinese college women were found to belong to the body type of "N" body shape, while many of Chosunjok college women belonged to "H" body shape body type characterized by normal stature but small difference between hip and chest circumferences. The most prevailing body type of Korean and Chinese college women next to "N" type(65%, 51%) was "H" (23%, 35%), followed by "A" type(12%, 14%), while that of Chosunjok college women was "H" type (54%), followed by "N" (40%) and "A" type (6%). On the other hand, in terms of distribution of major body part sizes, there was found a wide difference between Chinese and Korean college women. Chosunjok college women had similar body part sizes to Korean college women's in such measurements as waist back length, shoulder-to-shoulder length, front interscye length, back interscye length, under-chest circumference and weight, while having simliar body part sizes to Chinese college women's in such measures as stature, arm length, waist front length, waist side-hip line length, crotch length, head circumference, neck-root circumference and waist circumference.

중년전기 여성의 신체부위에 대한 자기평가와 타인평가의 비교 -광주지역을 중심으로- (A Comparison of the Consciousness of Middle Age Women′s Body Image between Self-Evaluation and Others′ - in Gwang-Ju -)

  • This study focused on the comparison of the consciousness of middle age women's body image between self evaluation and others'. The respondents include 105 middle age women who evaluated themselves and 532 middle age women who evaluated others in there age group in Gwang-Ju. The Questionnaire was comprised of two components; Part One is consciousness of body-shape and Part Two is body cathexis (or a body preference). For data analysis, SPSS 10.0 program was generally used, and T-test, ANOVA, Scheffe-test were being conducted. The results of study were as follow; On consciousness of body shape, the items that exist difference of opinion on the comparison of the consciousness of middle age women's body-shape between self-evaluation and others' evaluation were total body fatness, upper body type, low arm girth, thigh girth in lean group, and crotch of pants length, ankle girth, calf girth, in normal group, and upper body type, lower body type in obese group. On a body-cathexis, the item were neck, buttocks, bust, posture in lean group(p<.05), and neck, upper arm, abdomen in normal group(p<.01), and waist, abdomen, weight distribution in obese group(p<.01).

슬랙스 제작을 위한 20대 여성의 하반신 형태에 대한 인식도 및 체형 분석 연구 (The Recognition and the Somatotype Analysis Study of the Women in 20s' Lower Part of the Body for Stacks Pattern)

  • Through the recognition and the satisfaction of the lower part of the women body in 20s' we studied 202 respondents of the women in 20s' to analyze what lower part shape they want. And also through the measurment, we tried to analyze their wants. The results are as follows. 1. The women in 20s' think ideal body shapes are highstature, long legs, slander waist, hip, abdomen, thigh, ankle, and light weight. And so it needs to be studied to make slacks pattern which show slander girth and long length. 2. At the result of the body measurments the laterallargeness related with width, girth and depth items of the first factor rated 33.1 oyo in the variousfactors, and vertical largeness related with highness of the second fact rated 18.3% the first and the second factors affect importantly in the lower part of women body in 20s'. 3. At the result of the group analysis, the type divided five kinds, according to the body measurments, the type of 1, 3, 4, are normal, the type of 2 is weak, the type of 5 is fat. The type of 1 shows the largest distribution of all held 108, the flank is standard somatotype. The type of 2 is the second largest distribution held 59, the flank is forwardsomatotype. The type of 3 is the smallest of all types in the lateral largeness, the flankis turning over somatotype. The type of 4 is large both in the lateral largenessand in the vertical largeness, the flank is forward somatotype. The type of 5 is the fat type. The lateral type is the largest, the flank is forward turning over somatotype. The type of 5 showed the smallest distribution.

과체중 여성에서 L-carnitine과 Isoflavone 보충 섭취가 체중 및 내장지방 감소에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of L-Carnitine and Isoflavone Supplementation on Weight Reduction and Visceral Fat Accumulation in Overweight Women)

  • This study was performed to examine the combined effects of L-carnitine and isoflavone supplementation on weight reduction and body fat distribution in overweight women. Overweight/obese women (body mass index > $23kg/m^2$) who were not diagnosed any type of diseases were included in this study and sixty subjects ($41.1{\pm}1.5$ years, $25.9{\pm}0.3kg/m^2)$ were randomly assigned to a placebo (n=30) or a supplement group (n=30, L-carnitine 300 mg+isoflavone 40 mg/day). We measured anthropometric parameters, abdominal fat distribution by computerizd tomography and blood components before and after the 12 week intervention period. After the 12 weeks of supplementation, subjects in L-carnitine and isoflavone supplement group showed a significant reduction of body weight (p < 0.001), body fat % (p < 0.05), and waist to hip ratio (p < 0.01) whereas placebo group did not show any changes. In a CT-scanned results, total fat area at L4 level was significantly reduced by 8.1% (p < 0.01) with the reduction of visceral fat area (-11.1%, p < 0.001) and subcutaneous fat area (-7.0%, p < 0.05) in the supplement group. The supplementation of L-carnitine and isoflavone showed the significant improvement of HDL-C (p < 0.01) and apoB (p < 0.05) concentrations, however, change values in those markers were not significant compared with those of the placebo group. In addition, a significant increase of adiponectin level (p<0.001) was observed in the supplement group after the intervention. The result of present study demonstrated that supplementation of 300 mg L-carnitine and 40 mg isoflavone per day fur 12 weeks can give beneficial effects on weight reduction and visceral fat accumulation. These potential antiobesity supplement can produce more favorable effects when combined with lifestyle modification.

65세 이상 노인에서 식습관, 영양소 섭취 및 질병 양상에 관한 연구(I) (A Study on the Food Habits, Nutrient Intake and the Disease Distribution in the Elderly (Aged over 65 Years)(I))

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the food habits, nutrient intake, and disease distribution in the elderly (aged over 65 years). The correlation of diseases with anthropometric measurements and nutrients was investigated. The correlation of blood parameters with anthropometric measurements and nutrient intake was also studied. The results are as follow: 1) Most elderly men (68.6%) and women (81.6%) had more than three diseases. The food habits of the elderly women were worse than those of the men. Their intake of protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin $B_2$ were lower than the RDA for those particular nutrients.2) The incidence of gastritis (51.2%) , fatty liver (46.4%) , and hypertension (45.2%) were the highest among elderly men and women. 3) Anemia was negatively correlated with body weight. Hypercholesterolemia was positively correlated with body fat and negatively correlated with intake of calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin $B_2$ . Hypertension was negatively correlated with alcohol consumption. 4) Blood total cholesterol concentration was positively correlated with percent ideal body weight (% IBW) . Blood hemoglobin level was positively correlated with Body Mass Index (BMI) . Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were positively correlated with % IBW and BMI. Blood cholesterol concentration was negatively correlated with the intake of iron, vitamin A, vitamin $B_2$, and cholesterol, and positively correlated with the consumption of alcohol. Blood hemoglobin level was positively correlated with the intake of total calories, carbohydrates, fat, protein, iron, vitamin $B_2$, phosphorus, cholesterol, salt, and alcohol.

Visceral fat and body weight are reduced in overweight adults by the supplementation of Doenjang, a fermented soybean paste

  • Various forms of fermented soybean products are well documented for their health benefits. The efficacy of anti-obesogenic effect of Doenjang, one of the most commonly used seasonings in Korean cuisine, has been reported only in animal models; thus, an evaluation of Doenjang needs to be conducted in human studies. We aimed to test the hypothesis that Doenjang supplementation reduces body weight and changes body composition in overweight adults. A total of 51 overweight adults participated in this study. A group of males with BMI ${\geq}23kg/m^2$ and waist to hip ratio (WHR) ${\geq}$ 0.90, and a group of females with BMI ${\geq}23kg/m^2$ and WHR ${\geq}$ 0.85 were randomly assigned to either a Doenjang supplement (9.9 g dry/day) group or a placebo group for a 12-week randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled study. Anthropometric parameters, abdominal fat distribution by computerized tomography (CT) and blood components were measured before and after the intervention period. After the 12-week study, the Doenjang supplementation group had significant reductions in body weight (kg), body fat mass (kg) and body fat (%) compared to the placebo group, the supplementation of Doenjang resulted in a significant reduction in visceral fat ($cm^2$), although no changes were observed in total and subcutaneous fat are as ($cm^2$), serum lipid profiles and dietary intakes. The present study demonstrated that daily supplementation of 9.9 g dry/day of Doenjang for 12 weeks reduces body weight and visceral fat in overweight adults.
