The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires during May 2007. One hundred-ninety samples were analyzed by SPSS Windows. Frequencies, Cronbach's alpha, factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way analysis of variance, Duncan's multiple range test and chi-square test were conducted. The results were as follows. Lifestyles were categorized into four factors by factor analysis: popularity-seeking type, body-management-seeking type, convenience-seeking type and healthy-seeking type. In addition, the respondents belonged to one of four groups by cluster analysis: body-management-seeking group, popularity-seeking group, convenience-seeking group, and healthy-seeking group. There were significant differences in perception about individual body images, concern of diet, awareness of diet necessity and knowledge and practices for diet among the four groups. That is, the body-management-seeking group showed the highest levels of concern of diet, awareness of diet necessity and the practice of fasting therapy. Additionally, the healthy-seeking group showed the highest level of practice of exercise therapy.

  • This study was designed to evaluate the effect of the individual nutrition education for type 2 diabetes who participate the diabetes buffet. The subjects were 66 patients and divided into education (n=34) and control groups (n=32). The mean age of education and control groups were 59.8 and 56.6 years old, respectively. There were no differences in age and body mass index (BMI) between two groups. Initial glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), post prandial plasma glucose (PP2), total plasma cholesterol, and blood pressure were not different between two groups. But fasting blood sugar (FBS) was higher in education group than in control group. On completion of the study, the education group showed significant decreases in body weight, BMI, FBS and PP2, however, the control group showed no changes in body weight, BMI and PP2, and showed a significant increase in FBS. Initial calorie and protein intakes of the education group did not meet the prescribed amount, however, mineral and vitamin intakes were higher than estimated average requirement (EAR). By the end of study, calorie and protein intakes were significantly increased to meet the prescription. In order to evaluate the effect of diet education, awareness of calorie requirement was used as an index of understanding diet prescription. The degree of awareness of calorie requirement was dependent on age: younger patients showed higher awareness than older subjects. The subject who showed better understanding of diet prescription showed lower levels of HbA1c, FBS, and PP2 at the end of the experiment period. The results of this study clearly show that individual diabetes diet education is effective to make the patient understand their diet prescription, and is effective to control body weight and blood sugar level. Awareness of calorie requirement could be used as an index of understanding of prescribed diet. Since age is an important variable to determine the awareness of calorie requirement, different strategies of nutrition education should be developed for different age groups, especially patients over 70 years old.

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the body cathexis, ideal body shape, clothing satisfaction and their interrelationships. The subjects were 445 middle- and high- school girls. The findings were as follows : the subjects were more satisfied with their face appearance than body parts. They were very unsatisfied with thigh. leg and weight. Generally they were more satisfied with upper body than lower body, and more satisfied with length measurements than girth measurements. They accepted 169.19cm as ideal height and 49.18kg as ideal weight. The middle-school girls wanted to be taller than high-school girls by 3cm. But the ideal weight of both were almost same. The Rohrer indices indicated that the subjects were normal to slender type. But the Rohrer indices calculated using ideal height and ideal weight showed that the subjects thought extremely slender type as ideal body shape. The attitude of body was evaluated by two factors. the awareness of body shape and the physical attractiveness. The awareness of body shape was deeply influenced by girth measurements and lower body parts. And physical attractiveness was severely affected by face appearance. Weight was more important than height in regard to body cathexis. The ideal body shape was independent of individual situation but was formed by social value. The satisfaction of clothing in terms of design related aspects was influenced by body cathexis. Also the more satisfied with their body. the more they felt comfortable for their clothing. The body cathexis was interrelated with the satisfaction of clothing in some aspects.

  • This study sought to investigate the relationship between perception, body awareness, and beauty management behavior in the untact era in their MZ generation's, and as a result of the study, it was confirmed that there is a causal relationship between variables. For the empirical analysis of the study, a survey was conducted online(Google questionnaire) in Seoul/Gyeonggi area from June 7 to 26, 2021. Of the 548 questionnaires, 512, excluding 36, were analyzed using SPSS V.21.0. Among the sub-factors of perception in the untact era, it was confirmed that the social environment perception and human relationship perception are key factors that negatively affect body consciousness and beauty management behavior, and so does self-awareness(p<.05). Next, it was confirmed that, among the sub-factors of body consciousness, appearance management awareness and appearance/body care effort were key factors that positively affected beauty management behavior, and that appearance confidence was also an important factor that positively affected beauty management behavior(p<.05). Therefore, through this study, we intend to provide basic data for product development, programs, and marketing strategies that can cope with changes in the beauty consumption market in preparation for the post-COVID era.

Male subjects' appearance management behaviors were focused on hair, skin, cosmetic surgery, fashion and body shape. A chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis were used. The major findings were as follows: (1) The mean of male college students' 'awareness toward appearance management' is 30.01(out of a possible 50). (2) The variables that significantly influenced their awareness toward appearance management are 'an allowance amount per month' and 'household income'. (3) Subjects' most preferred behavior is a variable of 'fashion care' in the appearance management(29.9%). (4) Appearance management behavior is different, according to demographic variables and awareness toward appearance management. (5) The mean of 'monthly expenditure for appearance management' is 247,194won. Consequently, the study shows that there is a most significant relation of 'awareness toward appearance management' to 'expenditure for appearance management'

  • This study investigated dieting behavior, awareness of body shapes, and eating disorders in female adolescents according to age and BMI. The Eating Attitude Test for Korean Adolescents (EAT-26KA) and sociocultural standards were used to measure eating disorders and sociocultural attitudes related to appearance, respectively. In addition, the BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) scale was used to measure the correlation between disordered eating and depression. The data were collected from 390 female adolescents living in Seoul and were analyzed using SPSS15.0. The results indicated that subjects wanted to be thinner despite having a normal body weight (BMI 19.35${\pm}$2.73). They also thought of themselves as fat and with desires to be slimmer, and viewed "diet and exercise" as the best way to lose weight. About 67.4% of the respondents had tried a diet and had experienced dizziness, anorexia, and general exhaustion while dieting. Also, 5.1% of the subjects were classified as eating disorder and suffered from stress to be thin. In addition, 85.0% of the subjects with eating disorder had tried a diet due to "appearance". They thought that "being underweight" was an ideal body image and considered themselves fat, although their BMIs were in the normal range (19.94${\pm}$2.02). In terms of symptoms during dieting, many of the subjects dealing with an eating disorder felt dizzy, had low energy, and were depressed. In conclusion, we must educate young females about healthy eating and positive body image to prevent the development of adolescent eating disorders.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing positive subjective health awareness of middle school-age multicultural adolescents in Korea. Methods: This study used data from the fourth to sixth waves of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. In this study, a panel logit model analysis was performed using the Eviews 8.0 program (p<.050). Results: Socioeconomic status (r=.02, t=2.13, p=.033), body satisfaction (r=.71, t=1.97, p=.048), and depression (r=-.74, t=2.35, p=.018) influenced positive subjective health awareness in multicultural adolescents. When multicultural characteristics were entered into a statistical model with environmental and personal characteristics, multicultural characteristics did not have a significant influence on positive subjective health awareness. Conclusion: Environmental, personal, and multicultural characteristics were related to positive subjective health awareness in multicultural adolescents; thus, an integrated approach considering those variables is recommended. Nursing interventions and educational programs are needed to improve the psychological status of multicultural adolescents and reduce prejudice about them. In addition, nurses need to be sensitive to multicultural characteristics and the developmental characteristics of multicultural adolescents.
