  • This paper proposed the strategy learning method by means of the fusion of Back-Propagation neural network and Q learning algorithm for two-person, deterministic janggi board game. The learning process is accomplished simply through the playing each other. The system consists of two parts of move generator and search kernel. The one consists of move generator generating the moves on the board, the other consists of back-propagation and Q learning plus $\alpha$$\beta$ search algorithm in an attempt to learn the evaluation function. while temporal difference learns the discrepancy between the adjacent rewards, Q learning acquires the optimal policies even when there is no prior knowledge of effects of its moves on the environment through the learning of the evaluation function for the augmented rewards. Depended on the evaluation function through lots of games through the learning procedure it proved that the percentage won is linearly proportional to the portion of learning in general.

  • The game of Go is one of the oldest games and originated at least more than 2,500 years ago. In game programming the most successful approach is to use game tree searches using evaluation functions. However it is really difficult to construct feasible evaluation function in computer Go. Monte-Carlo Tree Search(MCTS) has created strong computer Go programs such as MoGo and CrazyStone which defeated human Go professionals played on the $9{\times}9$ board. MCTS is based on the winning rate estimated by Monte-Carlo simulation. Prior to implementing MCTS into computer Go, we tried to measure each winning rate of three positions, center, corner and side, in Tic-Tac-Toe playing as the best first move. The experimental result revealed that the center is the best, a corner the next and a side the last as the best first move.

  • This paper introduces a system for mosaicking sequences of soccer images in a panoramic view for soccer game analysis. The continuous mosaic images of the soccer ground field allow the user to view a wide picture of the players' actions. The initial component of our algorithm automatically detects and traces the players and some lines. The next component of our algorithm finds the parameters of the captured image coordinates and transforms them into ground model coordinates for automatic soccer game analysis. The results of our experimentations indicate that the proposed system offers a promising method for segmenting, mosaicking, and analyzing soccer image sequences.

  • As game industry prospers, the negative side of games becomes highlighted as well as its contributions to economy growth. In spite of strong arguments for the necessity to regulations as a means to decrease addiction or overindulgence, research has produced future suggestions rather than quantifiable evidence. In this paper, we propose adopting a simulation approach in addition to quantitative approaches to better understand optimal regulatory levels since a simulation approach can visualize unexpected side effects of regulations. In this study, we suggest the application of an agent-based model (ABM) as a smart service to measure the effects of regulatory policies. We review cases applying ABM in various domains and consider the possibility of using an ABM to understand the effectiveness of web board-game regulations. We find that the ABM approach would be useful in several areas, such as the analysis of regulatory effects that reflect a variety of characteristics, the measurement of micro-regulatory effects, and the simulation of regulations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of individual board game program (IBGP) on cognitive function and depression level in 7 elderly people with mild cognitive impairment(MCI). We used the mini-mental state examination korean version (MMSE-K), montreal cognitive assessment korean version (MoCA-K), and korean form of geriatric depression scale(KGDS). The results showed significant differences in MMSE-K before, after, and follow-up(p<0.05), and there were differences of orientation for time, place, and object and attention in before, after, and follow-up(p<0.05). MoCA-K showed differences in before, after, and follow-up assessments(p<0.01), and showed differences in visual construction skill, orientation, and short-term memory(p<0.05). Finally, there was a difference in depression level before, after, and follow-up of KGDS(p<0.01). Therefore, IBGP for the elderly can help improve the cognitive function, and based on this, it is expected that an advanced IBGP will be applied to improve orientation for time and place in the elderly.

  • We designed a family of completely autonomous mobile robots with local intelligence. Each robot has a number of on-board sensors, including vision, and does not rely on global positioning systems The on-board embedded controller is sufficient to analyze several low-resolution color images per second. This enables our robots to perform several complex tasks such as navigation, map generation, or providing intelligent group behavior. Not being limited to playing the game of soccer and being completely autonomous, we are also looking at a number of other interesting scenarios. The robots can communicate with each other, e.g. for exchanging positions, information about objects or just the local states they are currently in (e.g. sharing their current objectives with other robots in the group). We are particularly interested in the differences between a behavior-based approach versus a traditional control algorithm at this still very low level of action.

  • In South Korea, regulations on gambling have been implemented since the beginning of the Game Rating Board, and they have been improved, newly enacted or deleted according to the current game industry. For instance, regulations on arcade games include that no more than 10,000 KRW can be input per hour, automated operation is prohibited, results cannot be saved, money exchange is prohibited, etc. The study aimed to relieve excessive regulations on gambling arcade games in South Korea such as unnecessary regulations and duplicate regulations in a practical way. It is therefore expected to contribute to implementing regulation plans for gambling games suitable for the level of consciousness of the South Korean people.
