  • In this paper, we present a CPW-based 77 GHz 3-stage power amplifier MMIC for automotive radar systems. The power amplifier MMIC has been realized using a 130 nm $In_{0.88}$GaP/$In_{0.4}$AlAs/$In_{0.4}$GaAs metamorphic high-electron mobility transistors(mHEMTs) technology and an output stage with a cascode configuration. This produced a good output power and gain performance at 77 GHz. The fabricated power amplifier MMIC exhibited a small-signal gain of 18 dB, an output power of 17 dBm and 9 % power added efficiency(PAE) at 77 GHz with a total gate width of 800 ${\mu}m$ in the output stage. These performances could be useful to low-cost and small-sized components for 77 GHz automotive radar systems.

  • This paper describes the design and fabrication of a LNB(Low Noise Block downd-converter) which is a component of a FST(Flyaway Satellite Terminal), one of the ET(Earth Terminal) of the military satellite. LNB is physically composed of an down-converter module, a low noise amplifier module, a transmit band suppression filter, a isolator, a housing, and a cable assembly. It was designed using simulator (AWR) to satisfy the electrical characteristics of LNB's such as gain, noise figure and unwanted signal. The gain and noise figure characteristics were measured at 61.4dBm and 1.37dB, respectively. The unwanted wave was measured at -66.79dBc. Of the electrical requirements of Table 1, not only the above three but also all other items were confirmed to be satisfied.

  • In this study, the steel material for shipbuilding(LR-A class) was used, and FCAW was taken advantage of 3G attitude and they are welded by different welding ways. As a result of analyzing wave with welding monitoring system, the stable values are obtained which are the first floor(electronic current 164~182 A, voltage 24 V), the second floor(electronic current 174~190 A, voltage 22~25 V), the third floor(electronic current 158~188 A, voltage 22~25 V), and fourth floor(electronic current 172~184 A, voltage 22~25 V), at this time, the stable wave standard deviation and changing coefficient could be obtained. When the welding testing through nondestructive inspection was analyzed know defect of welding, there was no defect of welding in A, D, E, but some porosities in B, and slag conclusion near the surface in C, because the length of arc was not accurate, and the electronic current and voltage was not stable. After observing the change of heat affect zone through micro testing, each organization of floor formed as Grain Refinement, so welding part was fine, the distance of heat affect zone is getting wider up to change the values of the electronic current and voltage. As a result of degree of hardness testing, the hardness orders were the heat affect zone(HAZ), Welding Zone(WZ), and Base Metal(BM). When the distribution of degree of hardness is observed. B is the highest degree of hardness The reason why heat effect zone is higher than welding zone and base metal, welding zone is boiled over melting point($1539^{\circ}C$) and it starts to melt after the result of analysis through metal microscope, so we can know that delicate tissue is created at the welding zone. Therefore, in order to get the optimal conditions of the welding, the proper current of the welding and voltage is needed. Furthermore the precise work of welding is required.

  • In this paper, we have designed and fabricated high conversion gain Q-band active sub-harmonic mixers for a receiver of millimeter wave wireless communication systems. The fabricated active sub-harmonic mixer uses 2nd harmonic signals of a low local oscillator (LO) frequency. The fabricated mixer was successfully integrated by using $0.1{\;}\mu\textrm{m}$GaAs pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors (PHEMTs) and coplanar waveguide (CPW) structures. From the measurement, it shows that maximum conversion gain of 4.8 dB has obtained at a RF frequency of 40 GHz for 10 dBm LO power of 17.5 GHz. Conversion gain from the fabricated sub-harmonic mixer is one of the best reported thus far. And a phase noise of the 2nd harmonic was obtained -90.23 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset. The active sub-harmonic mixer also ensure a high degree of isolations, which are -35.8 dB from LO-to-IF and -40.5 dB from LO-to-RF, respectively, at a LO frequency of 17.5 GHz.

  • Low noise amplifier (LNA) is an integral component of RF receiver and frequently required to operate at wide frequency bands for various wireless system applications. For wideband operation, important performance metrics such as voltage gain, return loss, noise figure and linearity have been carefully investigated and characterized for the proposed LNA. An inductive shunt feedback configuration is successfully employed in the input stage of the proposed LNA which incorporates cascaded networks with a peaking inductor in the buffer stage. Design equations for obtaining low and high impedance-matching frequencies are easily derived, leading to a relatively simple method for circuit implementation. Careful theoretical analysis explains that input impedance can be described in the form of second-order frequency response, where poles and zeros are characterized and utilized for realizing the wideband response. Linearity is significantly improved because the inductor located between the gate and the drain decreases the third-order harmonics at the output. Fabricated in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process, the chip area of this wideband LNA is $0.202mm^2$, including pads. Measurement results illustrate that the input return loss shows less than -7 dB, voltage gain greater than 8 dB, and a little high noise figure around 6-8 dB over 1.5 - 13 GHz. In addition, good linearity (IIP3) of 2.5 dBm is achieved at 8 GHz and 14 mA of current is consumed from a 1.8 V supply.

  • This study was conducted to develop an efficient cryopreservation method of human embryonic stem (ES) cells using vitrification. In an initial experiment, sub-clumps of human ES cells (CHA-hES3 and CHA-hES4) were vitrified using grids after incubation with STO feeder cells for 1 or 16 h (Groups 1-1 and 1-2, respectively). After storage for $2{\sim}4$ months, thawed clumps were re-plated on a fresh feeder layer. The survival rates of warmed CHA-hES3 and CHA-hES4 cells of Group 1-2 were significantly higher than those of the corresponding Group 1-1 cells. In the second experiment, human ES cells were vitrified after incubation with feeder or feeder-conditioned medium (Groups 2-1 to -7). Relative mRNA expression of BM proteins and survival rates were increased following incubation of ES cells with fresh feeder cells for 16 h. In conclusion, increasing of tight adhesion between ES cells by extended incubation with feeder could reduce cryoinjury after vitrifying/warming.

  • In this study, the effect of the friction stir welding (FSW) was compared with that of the gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) on the microstructure and microhardness of Cu-Ni alloy weldment. The weldment of 10 mm thickness was fabricated by FSW and GTAW, respectively. Both weldments were compared with each other by optical microstructure, microhardness test and grain size measurement. Results of this study suggest that the microhardness decreased from the base metal (BM) to the heat affected zone (HAZ) and increased at fusion zone (FZ) of GTAW and stir zone (SZ) of FSW. the minimum Hv value of both weldment was obtained at HAZ, respectively, which represents the softening zone, whereas Hv value of FSW weldment was little higher than that of GTAW weldment. These phenomena can be explained by the grain size difference between HAZs of each weldment. Grain size was increased at the HAZ during FSW and GTAW. Because FSW is a solid-state joining process obtaining the lower heat-input generated by rotating shoulder than heat generated in the arc of GTAW.

  • To elucidate the relationship between blood parameters related bone metabolism and antioxidant enzyme activity in postmenopausal period 60 women residing in Iksan area were recruited. Food and nutrient intake of each individual subject were estimated by 24-hour recalls of 3 non-consecutive days. The biochemical markers including total protein, albumin, osteocalcin (intact bone gla protein; BOP), calcium, phosphorus and hemoglobin were measured in fasting blood. In addition, parameters of antioxidative capacity including the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) , catalase (CAT) and total antioxidant capacity (TA) were monitored in blood, also. The mean age, height, weight, and BM! of subjects were 64.8 years, 151.1 em, 59.5 kg $26.0\;kg/m^2$, respectively. The mean SOD, GPx, and CAT activities were 138.5 U/ml, 1,273.8 U/ml and 314.3 kU/l respectively, and TA was 1.16 mmol/l without significant difference among different age groups. BMI was positively correlated with SOD activity (p < 0.01). SOD activity and CAT activity showed positive correlation with serum albumin (p < 0.05) and hemoglobin (p < 0.01). In conclusion, this study revealed that antioxidant enzyme activity holds a significant relationship with the blood parameters like as serum albumin and hemoglobin in postmenopausal women and further systematic research is needed to investigate the their relation mechanism.

  • Two of the essential processes required for metastasis are neoangiogenesis and tumor cell invasion of basement membranes (BM) and extracellular matrix (ECM). Recently, data showed that herbs removing blood stasis has an anti-angiogenic effects. Tonifying vital Qi and eliminating pathogenic factor was a basic modality in Oriental oncology. In this study, we investigated several Qi and Blood tonics for potent angiogenic inhibitors. Methanol extracts of samples inhibited the proliferation of ECV-304 at the concentration of 100 ㎍/㎖. Zizyphi Fructus, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Angelicae Gigantis Radix decreased the gelatinolytic activity of MMP-9 from ECV-3Q4, at the concentration of 100 ㎍/㎖ in gelatin zymography. In in vitro invasion assay, herbs inhibited the invasion activity of ECV-304 by 53% of control (Ginseng Radix), 39% (Zizyphi Fructus), 36% (Angelicae Gigantis Radix), 25% (Glycyrrhizae Radix). Ginseng Radix inhibited the capillary-like tube formation of ECV-304 at the concentration of 160 ㎍/㎖, Angelicae Gigantis Radix and Paeoniae Radix Alba inhibited at the concentration of 320 ㎍/㎖. These results indicated that Ginseng Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix, and Angelicae Gigantis Radix could be considered as potent angiogenic inhibitiors.

  • LCP(Life Cycle Profiles) of bridge structures are indispensable for the LCC(Life Cycle Cost) evaluations of bridge system. The bridge under considerations may be newly-designed one or one in service. Thus, a systematic study of LCP is essential for both reliable LCC evaluation and strategic bridge management. LCP is mainly influenced by the structural environment in nature. However, in Korea, LCC evaluation has been performed with the LCP of foreign research results or only with the pieces of professional engineers' opinion. Therefore, to alleviate the drawbacks of foreign LCP and to enhance the reliability of current LCP, LCP should be established using the available data in bridge management system(BMS). In this study, LCP along with a subset of the BMS data was investigated and several mathematical expressions were proposed and evaluated. The condition ratings of a bridge were trasformed into the numerical indices through fuzzy logics with real field data. From the numerical results, it is concluded that the mathematical LCP model of $y=\sqrt{y^2_0-at}$ is shown to be the fittest one (R=0.815) to express the condition rating varied with the age. This has been drawn from the case study of slab bridges under the similar conditions.
