  • The flow of granular materials is common to many industrial processes. This paper discusses a methodology which utilizes high speed digital imaging to measure velocity of dry granular solids flowing down an inclined chute under the action of gravity. Glass particles have been used as granular solids in our experiment. The proposed technique utilizes block matching for spatially averaged velocity measurements of the glass particles. The velocity measurements are refined to the subpixel resolution by the variance normalized correlation with interpolation.

  • This paper presents a method of hierarchical state estimation of the time-varying linear systems via Block-pulse function(BPF). When we estimate the state of the systems where noise is considered, it is very difficult to obtain the solutions because minimum error variance matrix having a form of matrix nonlinear differential equations is included in the filter gain calculation. Therefore, hierarchical approach is adapted to transpose matrix nonlinear differential equations to a sum of low order state space equation from and Block-pulse functions are used for solving each low order state space equation in the form of simple and recursive algebraic equation. We believe that presented methods are very attractive nd proper for state estimation of time-varying linear systems on account of its simplicity and computational convenience. • Projection that can be used as a feature for image representation, includes much available informations such as approximated shape and location. But when we retrieve image using it, there are some disadvantage such as requiring much index data and making different length of projected vector for differenr image size. In order to overcome these problems, we propose a method of using block variance for the projected vector. We use block variance of the projection vector to localize the characteristics of image and to reduce the number of index data in database. Proposed algorithm can make use of statistical advantage through database including various size of images and be executed with fast response time in implementation.

  • Smoke detection plays an important role for the early detection of fire. In this paper, we suggest a newly developed method that generated LBPV(Local Binary Pattern Variance)s as special feature vectors from RGB contrast images can be applied to detect smoke using SVM(Support Vector Machine). The proposed method rearranges mean value of the block from each R, G, B channel and its intensity of the mean value. Additionally, it generates RGB contrast image which indicates each RGB channel’s contrast via smoke’s achromatic color. Uniform LBPV, Rotation-Invariance LBPV, Rotation-Invariance Uniform LBPV are applied to RGB Contrast images so that it could generate feature vector from the form of LBP. It helps to distinguish between smoke and non smoke area through SVM. Experimental results show that true positive detection rate is similar but false positive detection rate has been improved, although the proposed method reduced numbers of feature vector in half comparing with the existing method with LBP and LBPV.

  • The emerging display technology has been replaced the previous position of the CRT with the LCD. The nature of hold type display such as LCD, however, causes many problems such as motion blur and motion judder. To resolve the problems, we used frame interpolation technique which improves the image quality by inserting new interpolated frames between existing frames. In this paper, we propose a novel frame interpolation technique that uses dominant MV and variance different value in each block. At first, the proposed algorithm performs unidirectional motion estimation using blocking matching algorithm. The new frame is generated by pixel average using compared block variance or by pixel motion compensation using dominant motion vector, whether the motion estimation find the target area or not. Several experiments with the proposed algorithm shows that the proposed algorithm has better image quality than the existing bidirectional frame interpolation algorithm at the rate of about 3dB PSNR and has low complexity comparing to the unidirectional frame interpolation technique.

  • This paper discusses how to use projections for the analysis of data from balanced incomplete block designs. A model is suggested as a matrix form for the interblock analysis. A second set of treatment effects can be found by projections from the suggested interblock model. The variance and covariance matrix of two estimated vectors of treatment effects is derived. The uncorrelation of two estimated vectors can be verified from their covaraince structure. The fitting constants method is employed for the calculation of block sum of squares adjusted for treatment effects.

  • This paper suggests techniques to enhance coding time which is a problem in traditional fractal compression and to improve fidelity of reconstructed images by determining fractal coefficient through adaptive selection of block approximation formula. First, to reduce coding time, we construct a linear list of domain blocks of which characteristics is given by their luminance and variance and then we control block searching time according to the first permissible threshold value. Next, when employing three-level block partition, if a range block of minimum partition level cannot find a domain block which has a satisfying approximation error, There applied to 24-bpp color image compression and image techniques. The result did not occur a loss in the image quality of the image when using the encoding method, such as almost to the color in the RGB image compression rate and image quality, such as gray-level images and showed good.

  • Recently, sensor networks are built and used on many kinds of fields such as home, traffic, medical treatment and power grid. Sensing data manipulation on these fields could be a serious threat on property and safety. Thus, a proper way to block sensing data manipulation is necessary. In this paper, we propose IoT(Internet of Things) sensing data validation mechanism based on data obfuscation and variance analysis to remove manipulated sensing data effectively. IoT sensor device modulates sensing data with obfuscation function and sends it to a user. The user demodulates received data to use it. Fake data which are not modulated with proper obfuscation function show different variance aspect with valid data. Our proposed mechanism thus can detect fake data by analyzing data variance. Finally, we measured data validation time for performance analysis. As a result, block rate for false data was improved by up to 1.45 times compared with the existing technique and false alarm rate was 0.1~2.0%. In addition, the validation time on the low-power, low-performance IoT sensor device was measured. Compared to the RSA encryption method, which increased to 2.5969 seconds according to the increase of the data amount, the proposed method showed high validation efficiency as 0.0003 seconds.

  • This study is aimed at investigating the influence of different quantitative knowledge of results on the measurement error during lumbar proprioceptive sensation training. Twenty-eight healthy adult men participated and subjects were randomly assigned into four different feedback groups(100% relative frequency with an angle feedback, 50% relative frequency with an angle feedback, 100% relative frequency with a length feedback, 50% relative frequency with a length feedback). An electrogoniometer was used to determine performance error in an angle, and the Schober test with measurement tape was used to determine performance error in a length. Each subject was asked to maintain an upright position with both eyes closed and both upper limbs stabilized on their pelvis. Lumbar vertebrae flexion was maintained at $30^{\circ}$ for three seconds. Different verbal knowledge of results was provided in four groups. After lumbar flexion was performed, knowledge of results was offered immediately. The resting period between the sessions per block was five seconds. Training consisted of 6 blocks, 10 sessions per one block, with a resting period of one minute. A resting period of five minutes was provided between 3 blocks and 4 blocks. A retention test was performed between 10 minutes and 24 hours later following the training block without providing knowledge of results. To determine the training effects, a two-way analysis of variance and a one-way analysis of variance were used with SPSS Ver. 10.0. A level of significance was set at .05. A significant block effect was shown for the acquisition phase (p<.05), and a significant feedback effect was shown in the immediate retention phase (p>.05). There was a significant feedback effect in the delayed retention phase (p<.05), and a significant block effect in the first acquisition phase and the last retention phase (p<.05). In conclusion, it is determined that a 50% relative frequency with a length feedback is the most efficient feedback among different feedback types.
