Purpose: The purpose of this research is to determine optimal replacement age using non-informative prior information and Bayesian method. Methods: We propose a novel approach using Bayesian method to determine the optimal replacement age in block replacement policy by defining the prior probability with data on failure time and repair time. The Marcov Chain Monte Carlo simulation is used to investigate the asymptotic distribution of posterior parameters. Results: An optimal replacement age of block replacement policy is determined which minimizes cost and nonoperating time when no information on prior distribution of parameters is given. Conclusion: We find the posterior distribution of parameters when lack of information on prior distribution, so that the optimal replacement age which minimizes the total cost and maximizes the total values is determined.
Due to climate change and population growth, water scarcity is getting worse all over the world. Among various methods for desalination of seawater, the Multi-Effect Adsorptive Desalination method, which combines the existing Multi-Effect Desalination method and the Adsorptive Desalination method and can produce high-concentration-high-concentration freshwater, is emerging. Because the Multi-Effect Adsorptive Desalination method combines the two different methods, the system becomes complicated and the possibility of failure increases. Therefore, in this study, availability analysis was performed on the Multi-Effect Adsorptive Desalination process. A total of four types of reliability block diagrams were presented, and availability analysis was conducted based on them. The first form of a reliability block diagram is configured in series without any redundancy. The availability of the reliability block diagram composed of the serial system was found to be lower than the required availability. In order to increase availability, the redundancy to pumps and boiler are added to system. As a result of availability analysis, it was confirmed that designing desalination systems with redundancy to pump meets the 93% availability, which is typically required availability for various plants.
In this paper, we propose a new motion vector smoothing scheme which has high reliability and coding efficiency of motion vectors. In motion vector filed, groupings are made using angle and magnitude of the motion vectors. In each group, the unreliable motion vectors are corrected by the motion vector smoothing. In 3$\times$3 window, motion vector of the current block is made to group, and the motion vector smoothing is performed only in that group. Result of computer simulation shows much improvement of the reliability of motion vectors. Moreover, coding bits of the motion vector are diminished from 0.967 to 6.773 bits per block.
A location-aware algorithm is proposed in this study to optimize the system performance of distributed systems for processing big data with low data reliability and application performance. Compared with previous algorithms, the location-aware data block placement algorithm uses data block placement and node data recovery strategies to improve data application performance and reliability. Simulation and actual cluster tests showed that the location-aware placement algorithm proposed in this study could greatly improve data reliability and shorten the application processing time of I/O interfaces in real-time.
In these days, the reliability analysis and prediction are applied for many industrial products and many products require guaranteeing the quality and efficiency of their products. In this study reliability prediction for core units of machine tools has been performed in order to improve and analyze its reliability. ATC(Automatic Tool Changer) and interface Card of PC-NC that are core component of the machine tools were chosen as the target of the reliability prediction. A reliability analysis tool was used to obtain the reliability data(failure rate database) for reliability prediction. It is expected that the results of reliability prediction be applied to improve and evaluate its reliability. Failure rate, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) and reliability for core units of machine tools were evaluated and analyzed in this study.
During the design phase of a system, which requires high reliability and safety such as aircraft, high speed train and nuclear power plant, reliability engineer must set up the target system reliability. To meet a reliability goal for the system, reliability allocation should be done gradually from the system to its element. For this end, first of all, we need to construct functional block diagram based on the design output and PWBS(Project Work Breakdown System). Another important input data for reliability allocation is the relationship between the cost and the reliability. In this study we investigate various reliability allocation models, which can be applicable to aircraft, vehicle, and power plant, and etc. And we suggest a proper reliability allocation model which can be effectively applicable to KTX-II high speed train to achieve the target system reliability.
