  • Power factor and harmonics are increasingly important for high speed train auxiliary block. This paper presents experimental results of the power factor and harmonic performance of two parallel PWM circuits under various supply and load conditions. For reducing harmonics the harmonic content is eliminated by the phase shift between two converters switching phase. Experimental results show the usefulness of the proposed method and applicability to PWM converter in auxiliary block of high speed train.

  • Power factor and harmonics are increasingly important for high speed train auxiliary block.   • The electric train in the first line subway runs faster in the block from Suwon to Cheonan than the general block. The faster run results in the deterioration of ride quality due to the increase of noise and vibration. To reduce the noise and vibration of the electric train, a running test of the electric train was performed in the block from Suwon to Cheonan. The experimental results show that the sources of the noise and vibration basically comes from the irregularity of the railroad track and the connection part between car body and bogie. The possible countermeasure of the high speed electric train can be the reinforcement of the center pivot to have more flexibility and the frequent maintenance of electric train.

  • Accurate and reliable tracking system is essential for the central train control system. There are two systems widely being used. one is the fixed block system which utilizes the track circuit for the detection of train position. the other is the moving block system which has the advantage over the former since it enables shorter radio signal for the train position detection. In this paper a new algorithm is proposed which uses signal's phase difference of arrival to detect the train position. Experimental verification of the algorithm is presented in the paper.

  • In part I, we studied only step speed control for train, the second part extended to beacon signaling system and moving block system. With the calculated braking distance in part I, part II showed how to reduce headway using the beacon signaling system and moving block system, revealed that the beacon system has a braking distance advantage for sighting allowance with compared to step speed control, proposed beacon installation interval and revealed the braking distance with moving block system being nearly approached to train pure braking distance. We compared three different train control system to decide the best signaling system for a given condition and obtained the result that three systems have a same headway near 10~13 steps speed control.

  • The CBTC(Communication Based Train Control) system, a recent train control system, is a wireless communication based train control system that is operated in the moving block system control by tracking trains in real time. In additioin, the system helps to increase the volume of traffic by shortening driving headways through controlling moving block system control. Furthermore, driverless modes are performed by controlling ATP(Automatic Train Protection)/ATO(Automatic Train Operation). In this paper, controllable elements in ATO driverless train control system, affecting comfortable ride, will be analysed and applied to CBTC train control system that developed by POSCO ICT. Finally, the test results of improved comfortable ride will be showed by appling the developed system to the Gyeong-san light rail transit test track.

  • A signal system is critical point of transport capacity and train operation in urban rail transit. Today the moving block system by radio is taking place of the fixed block system by track circuit for efficiency and short headway in underground railway and right rail transit. In this study, assuming specification of a train, track and control system, the minimum headway on the moving block system and the fixed block system is researched for the maximum transport capacity.

  • There is growing interest in CBTC(Communication Based Train Control) system in accordance with the development of the communication technologies. The CBTC system, which adopts the moving block, has advantages such as headway and installation cost reduction compared with the existing system with fixed block. For the moving block system, it is required to locate the trains in real-time. Based on EPLRS(Enhanced Position Location Reporting System) technology, the train position can be provided only through the communication between radios. This paper introduces EPLRS based train detection method and verifies its effect by instance.
