Real-Time Side-Rear Vehicle Detection Algorithm for Blind Spot Warning Systems (사각지역경보시스템을 위한 실시간 측후방 차량검출 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a real-time side-rear vehicle detection algorithm that detects vehicles quickly and accurately in blind spot areas when driving. The proposed algorithm uses a cascade classifier created by AdaBoost Learning using the MCT (modified census transformation) feature vector. Using this classifier, the smaller the detection window, the faster the processing speed of the MCT classifier, and the larger the detection window, the greater the accuracy of the MCT classifier. By considering these characteristics, the proposed algorithm uses two classifiers with different detection window sizes. The first classifier quickly generates candidates with a small detection window. The second classifier accurately verifies the generated candidates with a large detection window. Furthermore, the vehicle classifier and the wheel classifier are simultaneously used to effectively detect a vehicle entering the blind spot area, along with an adjacent vehicle in the blind spot area.

  • Purpose: Most modern office buildings adopt the curtain wall system in order to provide occupants with the sense of openness and high-technology, which requires large window area. As a result, the amount of solar radiation increases, negatively affecting cooling load during the summer and increasing energy costs. However, the performance of window itself is not sufficiently controllable parameter to control thermal comfort and solar radiation. Therefore, a shading device such as venetian blind is required to control them and thus a variety of studies have been performed thus far. So, the purpose of this study is to improve the performance of blind through the development of blind control algorithm. Method: Among various input variables for the control of venetian blinds, the vertical solar radiation has been selected in this study as the primary input variable and the optimal control algorithm for venetian blinds were developed for each window orientation. Result: The developed optimal control algorithm has a positive effect on building energy savings.

Component based moment-rotation model of composite beam blind bolted to CFDST column joint

  • This paper aims to explore the mechanical behavior and moment-rotation model of blind bolted joints between concrete-filled double skin steel tubular columns and steel-concrete composite beams. For this type of joint, the inner tube and sandwiched concrete were additionally identified as basic components compared with CFST blind bolted joint. A modified moment-rotation model for this type of connection was developed, of which the compatibility condition and mechanical equilibrium were employed to determine the internal forces of basic components and neutral axis. Following this, load transfer mechanism among the inner tube, sandwiched concrete and outer tube was discussed to assert the action area of the components. Subsequently, assembly processes of basic coefficients in terms of their stiffness and resistances based on the component method by simplifying them as assemblages of springs in series or in parallel. Finally, an experimental investigation on four substructure joints with CFDST columns for validation purposes was carried out to capture the connection details. The predicted results derived from the mechanical models coincided well with the experimental results. It is demonstrated that the proposed mechanical model is capable of evaluating the complete moment-rotation relationships of blind bolted CFDST column composite connections.

A Study on the Position Accuracy Improvement Applying the Rectangular Navigation in the Hyperbolic Navigation System Area. (쌍곡선항법시스템을 이용한 직각항법에 의한 측위정도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays Hyperbolic Navigation System-LORAN, DECCA, OMEGA, OMEGA-is available on the ocean, and Spherical Navigation System, GPS (Global Positioning System) is operated partially. Hyperbolic Navigation System has the blind area near the base line extention because divergence rate of hyperbola is infinite theoretically. The Position Accuracy is differ from the cross angle of LOP although each LOP has the same error of quantity. GDOP(Geometric Dilution of Precisoin) is used to estimate the position accuracy according to the cross angle of LOP and LOP error. Hyperbola and ellipse are crossed at right angle everywhere. Hyperbola and ellipse are used to LOP in Rectangular Navigation System. The equation calculating the GDOP of rectangular Navigation System is induced and GDOP diagram is completed in this paper. A scheme that can improve the position accuracy in the blind area of Hyperboic Navigation System using the Rectangular Navigation System is proposed through the computer simulation.

Luminance Performance of a Room with Light Guide and Blind Systems by Mockup Experiments (혼합형 채광조절장치가 실내공간의 휘도분포에 미치는 영향에 관한 Mockup 실험평가)

  • As ecological design elements, daylighting can be applied to provide adequate illumination on visual tasks to create an attractive visual environment and to save electrical energy. Daylighting control systems reject direct sunlight and penetrate it onto the ceiling or to deep into the room. This study aims to evaluate the luminance environment of sloped light guide with automated venetian blind systems according to sun angle changes. For evaluation, a mock-up model was used and the south facing side-window mounted between the clerestory window and the view window. To assess luminance performance, 3 view points of luminance were monitored. As results, the conventional and lightshelves show ideal luminance ratio between workplane and surroundings(3:1) and workplane and darkness area(2:1) due to total ratio of surroundings and darkness area has lower ratio than workplane. Compared to the lightshelves window, conventional window shows unrelieved effect in between the workplane and brightness area(1:5). It means that there has low deviation according to the required standards. Also, compared to the ratio between the brightness area and darkness area(2~6:1) conventional window with high deviation(10~20:1) provide discomfort glare due to the excessively strong contrast, while lightshelves window shows a required luminance ratio that provide a three-dimensional effect to occupants. Therefore, luminance distribution indicate that application of a lightshelves and blinds not only has a significantly positive effect but also offers higher luminance quality in a daylit room

Comparative Studies on Lighting Environment and Energy Performance depending on the Transmittance of Window and Slat Angle of Blind (창호의 투과율과 블라인드 슬랫각도에 따른 빛환경 및 에너지성능 비교 연구)

  • Recently, curtain wall structure is constructed according to increasing high rise building. Glass is usually used in opening of curtain wall structure and window area ratio is finally increased. Excessive Daylighting and solar radiation by large window area ratio cause discomfort glare and add to cooling load in the case of office that is heavy on lighting and cooling. Therefore, this study suggests to use low transmittance window for solve those problems. Indoor lighting environment and building energy performance were analyzed by increasing transmittance from 10% to 90% and comparing fixed venetian blind. Consequently, the range of transmittance that is possible to daylighting and prevent discomfort glare. Secondary energy consumption is efficient in the case that transmittance is the range of from 20% to 50%, primary energy consumption is nice on from 20% to 40%. If those result put together, the range of window transmittance from 30% to 50% is proper in the office in lighting environment and energy consumption aspects.

  • This study analyzes areas, traffic lines and characteristics of block of traditional villages in order to suggest how to build urban village in the way that can solve problems occurring in residential areas these days. The study showed the following results: 1) Traditional villages have definite boundary and entrance, and the community area for the villages is close to the entrance to encourage community activities of villagers. 2) With an access in the form of a blind alley branched from the main road, traditional villages form a small-sized clustering and encourage community activities in a natural way. 3) Formed of block with a pattern of net, blind alley or standing in a line on both sides, traditional villages help residents to form close relations between. These findings suggest that for building desirable urban villages, 1) they should have definite boundary, 2) size and location of community area should be determined in the way to activate community activities of residents, 3) roads inside the village should have branched form rather than standardized check pattern so that small-sized clustering could be formed along the branched inner roads, and 4) clustering in villages should be arranged in a line on both sides or in the form of a blind alley giving consideration to the length and width of roads. The roads should be also of a closed type so that residents could create strong bonds with their neighbors.

Analysis of Autonomous Vehicles Risk Cases for Developing Level 4+ Autonomous Driving Test Scenarios: Focusing on Perceptual Blind (Lv 4+ 자율주행 테스트 시나리오 개발을 위한 자율주행차량 위험 사례 분석: 인지 음영을 중심으로)

  • With the advancement of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, autonomous driving on real roads has become feasible. However, there are challenges in achieving complete autonomy due to perceptual blind areas, which occur when the AV's sensory range or capabilities are limited or impaired by surrounding objects or environmental factors. This study aims to analyze AV accident patterns and safety issues of perceptual blind area that may occur in urban areas, with the goal of developing test scenarios for Level 4+ autonomous driving. It utilized AV accident data from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to compare accident patterns and characteristics between AVs and conventional vehicles based on activation status of autonomous mode. It also categorized AV disengagement data to identify types and real-world cases of disengagements caused by perceptual blind areas. The analysis revealed that AVs exhibit different accident types due to their safe driving maneuvers, and three types of perceptual blind area scenarios were identified. The findings of this study serve as crucial foundational data for developing Level 4+ autonomous driving test scenarios, enabling the design of efficient strategies to mitigate perceptual blind areas in various scenarios. This, in turn, is expected to contribute to the effective evaluation and enhancement of AV driving safety on real roads.

Design and Implementation of Testbed for Cooperative Localization using Area Reduction Method (영역 축소 기법을 이용한 협력 위치추정 테스트베드 설계 및 구현)

  • In this study, we designed and implemented testbed for localization algorithm by using a area reduction method in outdoor environment. The proposed algorithm used 3 steps of area reduction method, which estimated blind nodes position. Also, we have experimented with using a Zigbee module for 5 fixed reference nodes and 4 blind nodes in sensor field of $60m{\times}23m$. The results show that our algorithm is improved the localization accuracy even at the number of ref. node is fixed and the number of blind node is increased. In future research, we will be adding the function of seamless localization in indoor and NLOS(non-line of sight) environment.

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the blind spot for public transportation by level of service(LOS) in public transportation supply service. For the purpose, we proposed indices of service coverage area, service frequency and hours of service and analysis method for them. Service coverage area analysis is to decide station location and network design for the maximum beneficiary area. Moreover, we can use the service frequency is for the maximum service frequency decision and hours of service is for the minimum operation hours. The results of this study are applied to the plan of minimum supply service, minimum service frequency and minimum operation hours for city and national public transportation plan.
