  • The purpose of this study presents a model of the integrated online library service with LMS (Learning Management System). The new library service is called 'Library on Blackboard' which was developed and implemented by Murray State University Libraries in Murray, Kentucky, USA. This user-centered service with applied information technology has the potential to enhance the quality of the library performance in university libraries. The introduction of the Learning Management System in South Korea has a potential to enhance the education environment and promote new library services. With the emergence of new information technologies and growing popularity in online classes and distance education programs, the importance and usage of Learning Management Systems in higher education has increased.

  • Contemporary University students are considered the Z generation who were born after 1995. They are more tech savvy than millennials. To target the generation, traditional class management platforms have evolved to smart LMS that is more customized and accessible for smart devices. Global level information search and collaboration can also be implemented using such smart LMS. However, switching from one LMS to another LMS requires great effort from teachers and support from staffs. This study measured the learners' perception of the system when they were exposed to a new smart-LMS. Blackboard Learn Ultra was used for 15 weeks and at the end of the semester, a questionnaire was administered to the students of these classes. Results indicated that experience with previous LMS discouraged students from adopting Blackboard Learn. Result of TAM modeling indicated that perceived usefulness, compared to perceived ease of use and attitude, was an effective aspect to bring positive acceptance of the system. A qualitative approach and network analysis were also conducted based on students' responses. Both positive and negative responses were detected. Inconvenience due to mechanical aspects was mentioned. Dissatisfaction compared to previous local LMS use was also mentioned. Mobile application and communication effectiveness were positive aspects. Revised course development and promoting how useful the system may help enhance the acceptance of the new system.

  • First steps of Planetary exploration are usually conducted with the use of autonomous rovers. These rovers are capable of finding its own path and perform experiments about the planet's surface. This paper makes a proposal for a multi-agent system which effectively take the advantage of a blackboard system for share knowledge and effort of each agent. Agents use Reactive Model with the combination of Belief Desire Intension (BDI) Model and also use a Path Finding Algorithm for calculate shortest distance and a path for travel on the planet's surface. This approach can perform a surface exploration on a given terrain within a short period of time. Information which are gathered on the blackboard are used to make an output with detailed surface soil variance results. The developed Multi-Agent system performed well with different terrain sizes.

  • For hand expression recognition, hand pose recognition based on the static shape of the hand and hand gesture recognition based on hand movement are used together. In this paper, we proposed a hand expression recognition method that recognizes symbols based on the trajectory of a hand movement on a virtual blackboard. In order to recognize a sign drawn by hand on a virtual blackboard, not only a method of recognizing a sign from a hand movement, but also hand pose recognition for finding the start and end of data input is also required. In this paper, MediaPipe was used to recognize hand pose, and LSTM(Long Short Term Memory), a type of recurrent neural network, was used to recognize hand gesture from time series data. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, it was applied to the recognition of numbers written on a virtual blackboard, and a recognition rate of about 94% was obtained.

  • As e-business being rapidly developed the importance of security is on the rise in network. Intrusion detection systems which are a core security system detect the network intrusion trial. As intrusions become more sophisticated, it is beyond the scope of any one IDS to deal with them. Thus we placed multiple IDS agents in the network and the information helpful for detecting the intrusions is shared among these agents to cope effectively with attackers. Each agent cooperates through the BBA (Black Board Architecture) and CNP (Contract Net Protocol) for detecting intrusions. In this paper, we propose the effective method comparing the blackboard architecture to contract net protocol.

  • Scheduling jobs effectively under consideration of actual loads on machines is one of the most complicated tasks in production control. The complexity of the finite capacity scheduling often makes the conventional methods of industrial engineering fail. As an alternative, Knowledge-based approaches to job-shop scheduling have been evolved recently. This paper presents a blackboard- based scheduling expert system which combines knowledge-based scheduling with interactive scheduling. It is shown to be possible to generate the feasible schedule within a reasonable time. Flexible reaction management is also possible while keeping the changes in the generated schedule to the minimal and adjusting the schedule to tardy operations or working environmental changes. The system is equipped with a rule base with heuristics for handling conflicted event. A case study applying the implemented system is described.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate middle and high school mathematics teachers' levels and multiple approaches in United States practicing their abstraction levels and, different strategies and method of solutions towards given number theory problems. The mathematics teachers taking part in this study are consisted of 25 members of online graduate and undergraduate course (MAE 5641 and MAE 4813) delivered through Online Learning System called as the Blackboard (http://www.blackboard.com). Data collection methods include journal entries, written solutions to problems, the teachers' reflections on said problems, and post interviews. Data analysis was done based on [Hazzan, O. & Zazkis, R. (2005). Reducing abstraction: The case of school mathematics. Educ. Stud. Math. 58(1), 101-119]. Analysis of students' written solutions revealed that transitions among the solution methods have major effect on abstraction levels. Elevation and reducing abstraction is a dynamic process.

  • Advance in Internet technology has changed traditional production planning and control methods. In particular, collaborations between participants in supply chains are being increasingly addressed in industry for enhancing chain-wide productivity. A representative paradigm that emphasizes collaboration in production planning and control is CPFR(Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment). In this paper, we present a multi-agent system architecture that supports the collaborations specified in CPFR. The multi-agent system architecture consists of event manager, data view agent, business rule agent, and collaboration agent. The collaboration agent systematically controls negotiation between supplier and buyer with the aid of collaboration protocol and blackboard. The multi-agent system has been implemented with EJB(Enterprise Java Beans).

  • In this paper, an architecture is suggested which efficiently detects intrusions in network environments. In the architecture, the Blackboardbased agent coordinates opinions of several independent agents which are performing unique functions, by resolving conflicts and reconfirming notices of intrusion. In the simulation, it was found that conventional agents judge simple resource access activities as 'intrusion' while blakcboard-based agent reserves the judgement until additional information confirms notices of independent agents. Reconfirmation process based on additional questioning will roduce positive errors.
