PWM컨버터를 적용한 경전철 전력공급시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on DC Traction Power Supply System Using PWM Converter)

  • Currently, power conversion system which converts AC to DC Power is applied in domestic urban railway. The diode rectifier is used in most of them. However the diode rectifier can not control the output voltage and can not regenerate power as well. On the other hand, PWM (pulse width modulation) converter using IGBT (isolated gate bipolar transistor) can control output voltage, allowing it to reduce the output voltage drop. Moreover the Bi-directional conduction regenerates power which does not require additional device for power regeneration control. This paper compared the simulation results for the DC power supply system on both the diode rectifier and the PWM converter. Under the same load condition, simulation circuit for each power supply system was constructed with the PSIM (performance simulation and modeling tool) software. The load condition was set according to the resistance value of the currently operating impedance of light rail line, and the line impedance was set according to the distance of each substations. The train was set using a passive resistor. PI (proportional integral) controller was applied to regulate the output voltage. PSIM simulation was conducted to verify that the PWM Converter was more efficient than the diode rectifier in DC Traction power supply system.

온도 의존성 가변 저항 발열체로 표면 처리된 금속 분리판 제조 및 평가 (Synthesis and Evaluation of Variable Temperature-Electrical Resistance Materials Coated on Metallic Bipolar Plates)

  • For the successful cold starting of a fuel cell engine, either internal of external heat supply must be made to overcome the formation of ice from water below the freezing point of water. In the present study, switchable vanadium oxide compounds as variable temperature-electrical resistance materials onto the surface of flat metallic bipolar plates have been prepared by a dip-coating technique via an aqueous sol-gel method. Subsequently, the chemical composition and micro-structure of the polycrystalline solid thin films were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and field emission scanning electron microscopy. In addition, it was carefully measured electrical resistance hysteresis loop over a temperature range from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ using the four-point probe method. The experimental results revealed that the thin films was mainly composed of Karelianite $V_2O_3$ which acts as negative temperature coefficient materials. Also, it was found that thermal dissipation rate of the vanadium oxide thin films partially satisfy about 50% saving of the substantial amount of energy required for ice melting at $-20^{\circ}C$. Moreover, electrical resistances of the vanadium-based materials converge on an extremely small value similar to that of pure flat metallic bipolar plates at higher temperature, i.e. $T{\geq}40^{\circ}C$. As a consequence, experimental studies proved that it is possible to apply the variable temperature-electrical resistance material based on vanadium oxides for the cold starting enhancement of a fuel cell vehicle and minimize parasitic power loss and eliminate any necessity for external equipment for heat supply in freezing conditions.

  • In this study, ion nitriding of a EHA pump part made of AISI 4340 steel was performed under different applied power conditions to study the relationship between dimensional changes of specimens and the type of applied power source. Microstructures and micohardness distribution at different processing conditions were also examined. Duplex surface treatment of ion nitriding with the optimum process conditions to produce the minimum dimensional variation in a EHA pump part and a TiN thin film coating by unbalanced magnetron sputtering was performed and the specimens with a duplex surface treatment were subjected to a high speed wear test to evaluate the wear performance of EHA hydraulic pump parts with various surface treatment conditions. Results indicated that uniform and continuous surface layer with a minimum dimensional variation could be obtained by ion nitriding with bipolar mode power source and much enhanced wear characteristics with a duplex surface treatment could be obtained, compared with results from ion nitriding or single-layerd TiN coating specimens.

A 2 GHz 20 dBm IIP3 Low-Power CMOS LNA with Modified DS Linearization Technique

  • The linearization technique for low noise amplifier (LNA) has been implemented in standard $0.18-{\mu}m$ BiCMOS process. The MOS-BJT derivative superposition (MBDS) technique exploits a parallel LC tank in the emitter of bipolar transistor to reduce the second-order non-linear coefficient ($g_{m2}$) which limits the enhancement of linearity performance. Two feedback capacitances are used in parallel with the base-collector and gate-drain capacitances to adjust the phase of third-order non-linear coefficients of bipolar and MOS transistors to improve the linearity characteristics. The MBDS technique is also employed cascode configuration to further reduce the second-order nonlinear coefficient. The proposed LNA exhibits gain of 9.3 dB and noise figure (NF) of 2.3 dB at 2 GHz. The excellent IIP3 of 20 dBm and low-power power consumption of 5.14 mW at the power supply of 1 V are achieved. The input return loss ($S_{11}$) and output return loss ($S_{22}$) are kept below - 10 dB and -15 dB, respectively. The reverse isolation ($S_{12}$) is better than -50 dB.

  • Resent research activities and technical trends for UPS(UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY) are reviewed. There are increasing demands for UPS to get mote useful performance. This needs are high-efficiency, high-confidency, high-quality, low-cost. self-diagnosis. maintenance-free, and a wide variety of options. These can be satisfied with high-technology and optimal system coordination. In this paper. according to these demands. a newly developed UPS and a wide variety of options are introduced. Also. the data related are presented.

  • This paper introduces the design of BiCMOS latched comparator circuit for high-speed system application, which can be used in data conversion, instrumentation, communication system etc. By exploiting the advantage technology of the combination of both the bipolar transistor and the CMOS transistor devices. The comparator circuit includes an input stage that combines MOS sampling with a bipolar regenerative amplifier. The resistive load of conventional current-steering comparator is replaced by a load, which is made by a NMOS transistor. The advantage of design and PSPICE simulation of BiCMOS latched comparator are the circuit will obtain wide bandwidth with lowest power consumption at a single supply voltage. All the characteristics of the proposed BiCMOS latched comparator circuit is carried out by simulation program.

Controls on KSTAR Superconducting Poloidal Field (PF) Magnets

  • As a part of the plasma control system (PCS) for the first plasma campaign of KSTAR, seven sets of fast feedback control loop for the superconducting poloidal field magnet power supply (PF MPS) have been implemented. A special real-time digital communication interface has been developed for the simultaneous exchanges of the current/voltage data from the 7 sets of 12-thyristor power supplies in a 200 microsecond control cycle. Preliminary power supply tests have been performed before actual cooldown of the device. A $29mH/50m{\Omega}$ solenoid dummy has been fabricated for a series of single power supply tests. Connectivity and response speed of the plasma control system have been verified. By changing hardware cabling, this load was also used to estimate mutual inductance coupling effects of two geometrically adjacent solenoid coils on each power supply. After the cooldown was complete, each pair of the up/down symmetric PF coils has been serially connected and tested as part of the device commissioning process. Bipolar operation and longer pulse attempts have been investigated. The responses of the coils and power supplies corresponding to the plasma magnetic controls in plasma discharges are also analyzed for the future upgrades.

  • Nowadays, CO2 lasers are used widely in many applications such as materials fabrication, communications, remote sensing and military purpose etc. It is important to control the laser output power in those fields. In this paper, current resonant half-bridge inverter and Cockcraft-Walton circuit are used to vary the laser output power. This laser power supply is designed and fabricated which has less switching losses and compact size. Also we used an IGBT(Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) as a switching device of a power supply and PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control the gate signal of the IGBT precisely. We investigated the output characteristics of this CO2 laser. As a result, the maximum laser output power of 26[W] is obtained at the resonant frequency of about 13[kHz].

  • Power factor improved for single-phase buck-converter is studied in the paper. To sinusoidal waveform the input current with a near-unity power factor over a wide variety of operating conditions, the output capacitor is operated with voltage reversibility for the supply by arranging the auxiliary diode and power switching device. Then the output voltage is superposed on the input voltage during on time duration of power switching devices in order to minimize the input current distortion caused by the small input voltage when changing the polarity. The tested setup, using two insulated gate bipolar transistors(IGBT) and a microcomputer, is implemented and IGBT are switched with 20[kHz], which is out of the audible band. Moreover, a rigorous state-space analysis is introduced to predict the operation of the rectifier. The simulated results confirm that the input current can be sinusoidal waveform with a near-unity power factor and a satisfactory output voltage regulation can be achieved.
