The Effect of Clinical Experience for Psychiatric Nursing on Urinary 17-Ketosteroid(KS) and 17-Hydroxycorticosteroid(OHCS) of the Student (간호학생의 정신간호학 실습이 요중 17-Ketosteroid(KS), 17-Hydroxycorticosteroid(OHCS)에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the first experience of the clinical experience for psychiatric nursing on the urinary 17-ketosteroid (KS) and 17-hydroxycorticosteroid (OHCS) of the nursing students. We analyzed the urine of fifteen students on curriculum who were students of D college in K city, compared with the control. In terms of 17-KS, at the end (4 PM) of the first day (p=0.001) and the last day (p=0.003), there was statistically significant difference between the control and the experimental group. In terms of 17-OHCS, at the end of the first day, there was statistically significant difference between the control and the experimental group (p=0.005), and between at the beginning (8 AM) and at the end during the clinical experience (p=0.035). At the last day, also, there was significant difference on the statistics between at the beginning and at the end in both the control (p=0.018) and the experimental group (p=0.004). In conclusion, 17-KS and 17-OHCS may be used as a indicator of the amount of stress to improve the educational environment for the students.

Comparisons of the Effects of A-solution and 0.9% Normal Saline Oral Gargling on Xerostomia, Halitosis, and Salivary pH in Nursing Students (아로마용액과 0.9% N/S 구강함수가 간호대학생의 구강건조, 구취 및 타액 pH에 미치는 효과 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of gargling with A-Solution and 0.9% normal saline on xerostomia, halitosis, and salivary pH among nursing students. Methods: The study design was a randomized, controlled trial. The experimental group received oral gargling treatment for 15 seconds with A-solution while the control group received oral gargling treatment for the same time with 0.9% normal saline. Outcome variables were measured at baseline, 60 minutes, and 120 minutes. Results: The groups were homogeneous in general characteristics, and the outcome variables before the treatment between the experimental group and the control group. 1) There were no significant differences in xerostomia, halitosis, and salivary pH between the two groups. 2) There were no significant differences in xerostomia, halitosis, and salivary pH based on the time. 3) There were significant interactions between group and time in subjective halitosis (F=3.766, p=.034) only. Conclusion: These findings indicate that oral gargling with Aroma solution and 0.9% normal saline could have the same effect of reducing xerostomia and halitosis in nursing students.

Comparison of Patient-Sitter Ward Nurses and General Ward Nurses on Work-Related Musculoskeletal Symptoms, Occupational Stress and Nursing Work Environments (보호자 없는 병동 간호사와 일반병동 간호사의 근골격계 자각증상, 직무스트레스 및 간호업무환경 비교)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to compare work-related musculoskeletal symptoms, occupational stress and nursing work environments of nurses working in patient-sitter wards and general wards. Methods: The study surveyed 240 nurses with more than one year of experience working in both patient-sitter wards and general wards. The collected data then was analyzed by SPSS statistics version 22. Results: As for the musculoskeletal symptoms, the survey showed that 85.2% and 67.8% of the nurses had such symptoms respectively in patient-sitter wards and general wards. In terms of occupational stress, no significant difference was observed between the patient-sitter ward and the general ward (t=-0.23, p=.821). Lastly, the study showed that there is a significant difference in terms of work environment considering the scores recorded 2.65 and 2.55 points respectively in patient-sitter ward and general ward (t=2.53, p=.012). Conclusion: Follow-up research should look at ways to lower the rate of experiencing work-related musculoskeletal symptoms; analyze work performances and establish work standards to lower occupational stress; and devise measures to improve the work environment for the nurses working in patient-sitter wards.

The Effects of Self-leadership Reinforcement Program for Hospital Nurses (병원간호사의 셀프리더십 강화 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study has been carried out in order to develop and verify the effects of self-leadership reinforcement program for hospital nurses. Methods: The research design was a non-equivalent control group pre-posttest design. Participants were 64 individuals (32 in each group), all of whom were nurses working at a university hospital, with less than five years of job experience. Experimental group was provided with two hours of self-leadership reinforcement program, once per week, for four weeks. The questionnaire for pre and post test included general characteristics, transfer motivation for learning, self-leadership, communication ability, clinical nursing competency, organizational commitment, and turnover intentions. Results: There was a significant difference in self-leadership scores between experimental group and control group (F= 15.10, p<.001). There was also a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in terms of transfer motivation for learning (t = -5.44 p<.001), communication ability (F = 15.29, p<.001), clinical nursing competency (F = 15.23, p<.001), and organizational commitment scores (F = 7.21, p=.009). Conclusion: The self-leadership reinforcement program developed in this study was effective in improving self-leadership, communication ability, clinical nursing competency, and organizational commitment. Thus, by implementing the program at clinical levels, it will be a basis for nursing personnel resource administration.

A Coorientation Analysis of Perception on Bionursing between Clinical Nurses and Nursing Professors (기초간호자연과학 교육과 연구에 대한 임상 간호사와 간호학 교수의 상호지향성 인식)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare perception on bionursing and satisfaction and importance about bionursing subjects of clinical nurses with that of professors using a coorientation model. Methods: Subjects for this study consisted of 135 clinical nurses at a tertiary hospital and 114 nursing professors. Questionnaire for perception on bionursing consisted of competency of professor, linkage with clinical practice and research of bionursing. Perceptions on bionursing education and research, satisfaction and importance about subjects of bionursing were measured. The data were analyzed by t-test. Results: Perception of clinical nurses on research of bionursing was more positive than professors. Perception of professors on research of bionursing was significantly less than that of professors estimated by clinical nurses. Perception of clinical nurses on linkage with clinical practice and research of bionursing estimated by nursing professor was significantly less than that of clinical nurses. Satisfaction of clinical nurses with the subjects of bionursing was significantly less than that of professors. Clinical nurses perceived anatomy the most important while professors perceived physiology the most important. Conclusion: Perceptions of clinical nurses on bionursing as well as satisfaction and importance about subjects of bionursing were identified to be different from those of professors.

Effects of a Finger Guard while Opening the Glass Ampoule by Nursing Students (손가락보호대의 적용이 간호대학생의 유리앰플 개봉 시 찔림사고, 불안 및 사용자만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of a finger guard developed to prevent sharp injuries in nursing students. Methods: This study was an equivalent control group posttest design. Seventy nursing students were randomly allocated to either the experimental group (n= 35) or the control group (n= 35). The finger guard was used whileopening the glass ampoule in the experimental group. The outcome variables such as sharp injuries, anxiety and user satisfaction were measured. Results: Sharp injuries were 0 in the experimental group and 2 in the control group (p= .160). Anxiety in the experimental group was significantly lower than the control group (p< .001). User satisfaction was 4.33 score in the range from 1 to 5, the highest item was the weight (4.63), followed by effectiveness (4.51). Conclusion: Using a protective device while opening the glass ampoule was observed to be effective in reducing anxiety among the nursing students, and exhibited protection of skin.

Awareness and Competency of Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms Infection Control in Nursing Students with Clinical Practice (임상실습을 경험한 간호대학생의 다제내성균 감염관리 인식과 감염관리역량)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to identify awareness and competency for Multi-Drug Resistant Organisms (MDRO) infection control in nursing students with experience of clinical practice. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted from March 2019 to May 2019 by including 231 nursing students in four nursing schools located in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Chungcheongnam-do. The data were collected using self-report questionnaires. Results: The awareness and the competency for Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) infection control were lower than that of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The agreement between the awareness and the competency of MDRO infection control in participants was low with regard to isolation, contact precautions, and disinfection for MRSA. Also, it was low with respect to disinfection, isolation, contact precautions, and carrier identification for CRE. The awareness and the competency of MDRO infection control exhibited significant positive correlation. Conclusion: The infection control competency is required to prevent MDRO infection. In order to enhance the infection control competency, it is important to raise awareness about MDRO infection control by providing education based on the guidelines and the principles of infection control.

The impact of Knowledge, Risk perception, Fear, Self-efficacy on COVID-19 Preventive behaviors in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 COVID-19 관련 지식, 감염위험지각, 두려움, 자기효능감이 COVID-19 감염 예방행위에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aims to identify the knowledge, risk perception, fear, self-efficacy, and preventive behaviors among nursing students, and factors influencing preventive behaviors on COVID-19. Methods: Data was collected from March, 2022 to May, 2022. The participants included 218 nursing students in their 3rd and 4th grade of three universities in two cities. Results: The knowledge of COVID-19 was 13.54 out of 15 points, risk perception was 4.83 out of 8 points, fear was 13.26 out of 35 points, self-efficacy was 19.96 out of 25 points, and preventive behaviors were 7.56 out of 9 points. The explanatory power of self efficacy (β= .21, p= .002), which affects preventive behaviors was 67.0%. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop a systematic nursing intervention that improves self-efficacy to improve preventive behaviors against COVID-19 among students. This study's result can be used in the future to develop appropriate health policies and program to prevent emerging infectious diseases.

Development of Clinical Research Management: Enhancement of Nursing Students' Clinical Competency in Handling Clinical Trials (간호대학생의 임상시험실무역량강화를 위한 '임상연구관리' 교과목 개발)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop a new course entitled 'Clinical Research Management' to enhance nursing students' clinical competency in handling clinical trials. Methods: The goals and content of the existing current education program for clinical research professionals such as clinical research coordinators and clinical research associates provided by the Korea National Enterprise for Clinical Trials were analyzed to identify the core educational concepts. A focus group interview was performed to investigate essential competency levels for the professionals who were to begin their career in the area of clinical trials after graduating from the college of nursing. Through these initial processes, we identified the core competency required for clinical research professionals and the related course content. Goals and objectives based on the specified four competencies were set and confirmed by expertise review. Results: We developed a new course entitled Clinical Research Management, a 16-week elective subject consisting of various teaching and learning strategies based on four core competencies: basic knowledge on clinical trials, communication, risk management, and ethics. Conclusion: The results of this study will contribute to enhancing nursing students' clinical competency, including knowledge, skills, and attitudes relevant to clinical trials.

Analyzing the Features and Control Factors of Headache among High School Students (남녀 고등학생의 두통 양상과 조절요인 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the features and the control factors of headache among high school students. Methods: Data were collected from 120 high school students who suffered headache over one time per a year. The gathered data were analysed with frequency, t-test, ANOVA and $X^2$-test using SPSS 14.0 Program. Results: There were no significant differences in the frequency and the intensity of headache according to general characteristics except status of family economy and the perceived satisfaction of schoolwork achievement and no significant difference were observed in the features and the control factors according to the gender. The main cause of headache of the high school students were stress and the lack of sleep. Conclusion: These results suggest the need to develop a program that would help students relieve schoolwork stress which would help preventing the major cause of headaches for high school students.
