  • Volume of concrete slab changes by temperature and moisture effects. At that time, tensile stress develops because the slab volume change is restrained by friction resistance between the slab and subbase, and then crack occurs occasionally. Accordingly, researchers have made efforts to figure out the friction characteristics between the slab and subbase by performing push-off tests. Lately, researches to analyze concrete pavement behavior by the friction characteristics have been performed by finite element method. In this study, The friction characteristics between the slab and subbase were investigated based on the friction test results for lean concrete, aggregate, and asphalt subase widely used in Korean concrete pavements. The energy method bilinearizing relation between nonlinear friction resistance and displacement were suggested. The friction test was modeled by 3-D finite element program, ABAQUS, and the model was verified by comparing the analyzed results to the test results. The bilinear model developed by the energy method was validated by comparing analysis results obtained by using the nonlinear and bilinear friction resistance displacement relation as input data. A typical Korean concrete pavement was modeled by ABAQUS and EverFE and analyzed results were compared to evaluate applicability of the bilinear model.

  • Estimating the nonlinear seismic response of structure in earthquake engineering is important. Nonlinear static analysis is a typical method, and a variety of methods and techniques for estimating the stiffness of structural system at a certain analysis stage have been introduced and used in numerical structural analysis. On the other hand, such methods have many difficulties in practical usage because they use time-consuming iterative methods or simplified algorithms for calculating the structural stiffness at specific points in the time of nonlinear static analysis. For this reason, this study suggests an accurate and effective method for estimating the stiffness of a structure in nonlinear static analysis. For this goal, existing theories of an incremental step-by-step solution was investigated first. Subsequently, an algorithm available for calculating the precise stiffness of a structural system, each element of which has a bilinear material model, was developed based on the investigated methods. Finally, a computer program, sNs, was developed with the algorithm used.

  • Stereoscopic 3D video can be transmitted by frame-compatible packing format to fulfill the compatibility requirement with the existing digital TV. Then, the reduced stereo image needs to be expanded to the original size at the receiver. This paper proposes an adaptive interpolation method for the discarded image lines. The horizontal line-based linear filter and NEDI6 filter are used selectively for the interpolation of each pixel. Experimental results show that the NEDI6 combined with the horizontal line-based linear filter yields better image quality than the bilinear method by around 0.6dB.

  • We survey a recently developed immersed finite element method (IFEM) for the interface problems. The IFEM uses structured grids such as uniform grids, even if the interface is a smooth curve. Instead of fitting the curved interface, the bases are modified so that they satisfy the jump conditions along the interface. The early versions of IFEM [1, 2] were suboptimal in convergence order [3]. Later, the consistency terms were added to the bilinear forms [4, 5], thus the scheme became optimal and the error estimates were proven. For elasticity problems with interfaces, we modify the Crouzeix-Raviart based element to satisfy the traction conditions along the interface [6], but the consistency terms are not needed. To satisfy the Korn's inequality, we add the stabilizing terms to the bilinear form. The optimal error estimate was shown for a triangular grid. Lastly, we describe the multigrid algorithms for the discretized system arising from IFEM. The prolongation operators are designed so that the prolongated function satisfy the flux continuity condition along the interface. The W-cycle convergence was proved, and the number of V-cycle is independent of the mesh size.

  • In this paper, for natural facial synthesis, lip-synch algorithm based on key-frame method using RBF(radial bases function) is presented. For lips synthesizing, we make viseme range parameters from phoneme and its duration information that come out from the text-to-speech(TTS) system. And we extract viseme information from Av DB that coincides in each phoneme. We apply dominance function to reflect coarticulation phenomenon, and apply bilinear interpolation to reduce calculation time. At the next time lip-synch is performed by playing the synthesized images obtained by interpolation between each phonemes and the speech sound of TTS.

  • This paper develops a stability analysis and controller synthesis methodology for a continuous-time affine Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with parametric uncertainties. Affine T-S fuzzy system can be an advantage because it may be able to approximate nonlinear functions to high accuracy with fewer rules than the homogeneous T-S fuzzy systems with linear consequents only. The analysis is based on Lyapunov functions that are continuous and piecewise quadratic. The search for a piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function can be represented in terms of bilinear matrix inequalities (BMIs). A simulation example is given to illustrate the application of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a robust observer-based output feedback control for stabilization of linear time invariant systems with polytopic uncertainties. To this end, this paper not only finds a robust observer gain but also suggests how to determine the model used in the observer, which is not obvious due to model uncertainties in the conventional observer design method. The robust observer gain and the observer model are selected in a way that the whole closed-loop is stable by solving LMIs and BMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities and Bilinear Matrix Inequalities). A simulation example shows that the proposed robust observer-based output feedback control successfully leads to closed-loop stability.

  • This paper treats with the design method for the single loop oversampled Sigma-Delta A/D converter with one delay and the digital integrator. Such an integrator was kgenerated by means of the bilinear transform of the analog integrator. The frequency spectrums of the quantizer and the decimator output signal are evaluated by FFT respectively. With the performance evaluation system, the values of SNR are obtained versus the input sinusoidal signal amplitude, frequency, the oversampling ratio, the DC-input level, the loop gain and the limitting value of the integrator. As compared with existing results, values of SNR versus the input signal amplitude and the oversampling ratio for the suggested system are about 6dB higher then previously reported results respectively. Furthermore, this approach achieves an about 60dB input dynamic range.

  • All the resitors in the active RC filter networks can be relplaced by the switched capacitors. Therefore, An SC filter circuit can be fully integrated using MOS technology. A switched capacitor is much better than a resistor in temperature and linearity characteristics, and the former can be fabricated on the much smaller area then the latter. In this paper, It is given the generalized disign method of the active SC filter from the active RC filter using Bilinear Z-transformation. By SC filtering Techniques using Bilinear Z-transform, It enalbes us to realize the FDNR and Gyrator filters, which could not be realized in the exsisting designs, and it permits the processing of signals at much higher frequenies that many previous designs do. Experiments show that the response of the SC active filter is similiar to that of its prototype active RC filter.

  • This paper presents a new intelligent digital redesign (IDR) method via the compensated bilinear transformation to design the digital controller such that the digital fuzzy system is equivalent to the analog fuzzy system in the sense of the state-matching. This paper especially consider a multirate control scheme with a predictive feature, where the digital control input is held constant N times between the sampling points. More precisely, the multirate control scheme is proposed that utilizes a numerical integration scheme to approximately predict the current state from the state measured at the sampling points, the delayed measurements. For this system, the IDR conditions incorporated with stabilizability in the format of the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) are derived. The superiority of the proposed technique is convincingly visualized through a numerical example.
