  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the severity, depression and to identify factors influencing quality of sleep in Restless Legs Syndrome(RLS) patients. A total of 303 consecutive RLS patients were assessed by self questionnaires and participant's medical records were reviewed for obtaining their clinical information. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. The quality of sleep was positively correlated with symptoms(r=. 21, p<.001) and depression(r=. 37, p<.001). The results of multiple regression analysis showed that significant variables influencing the quality of sleep were depression(${\beta}=.35$, p<.001), age(${\beta}=.21$, p<.001), and severity(${\beta}=.15$, p=.005). The explanation power of this regression model was 21.0% and it was statistically significant. As a result, to improve their sleep quality, the nursing interventions are required for RLS patients who have the depression, age, and severity.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the influence of corporate association in family restaurants upon the customer's service valuation and company evaluation and to empirically analyze whether the service valuation plays a mediating role between the corporate association and the company evaluation. Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 301 customers and the data were analysed by frequency, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The primary results are as follows. Multiple regression analysis, to verify the hypothesis, showed that corporate association(corporate competence association $\beta$=0.636; corporate social responsibility association $\beta$=0.091) in family restaurants had positively significant influence upon service valuation, and service valuation($\beta$=0.567) had positively significant influence on company evaluation. As a result of analyzing the mediating effects, the direct effects(corporate competence association $\beta$=0.166; corporate social responsibility association $\beta$=0.123) of the corporate association in family restaurants upon customer's corporate evaluation were indicated to be smaller than the total effects(corporate competence association $\beta$=0.430; corporate social responsibility association $\beta$=0.161). Accordingly, the partial mediating effect was surveyed to exist that has influence upon company evaluation through service evaluation without explaining 100% directly in evaluation on corporate association.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify that the expressions of angiogenin, transforming growth factor-beta(TGF-${\beta}$), vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), human apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease(APEX) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-${\alpha}$) were associated with the tumorigenesis of the oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC). Materials and Methods: Fifty-one samples of OSCC and fifteen normal oral mucosae were obtained to analyze the expression levels of above five factors. mRNA expressions were quantified by the quantitative competitive PCR(QC-PCR) method. After 2% agarose gel electrophoresis stained with ethidium bromide, the concentration of mRNA was calculated by a digital image analysis system. The expression levels of angiogenin, TGF-${\beta}$, VEGF, APEX and TNF-${\alpha}$ were compared by unpaired Student's t-tests between cancer and normal tissues. We analyzed statistically to find the cut-off values that would be useful as diagnostic markers, and the linear regression analysis between every two factors of these five factors by SAS system. Results: All of these five factors (angiogenin: P<0.0037, TGF-${\beta}$: P<0.0001, VEGF: P<0.0102, APEX: P<0.0023, TNF-${\alpha}$: P<0.0074) were significantly correlated with OSCC. In the analysis to find the cut-off values for the diagnosis, we could not find any value that had a reasonable sensitivity and specificity. In the linear regression analysis, there were correlations between angiogenin and TNF-${\alpha}$, TGF-${\beta}$ and VEGF, TGF-${\beta}$ and APEX, TGF-${\beta}$ and TNF-${\alpha}$, VEGF and APEX, VEGF and TNF-${\alpha}$, APEX and TNF-${\alpha}$. Conclusion: Our results suggest that not only angiogenin, TGF-${\beta}$, VEGF, APEX and TNF-${\alpha}$ are significantly associated with the tumorigenesis, but also the close relationship between these factors might enhance the tumorigenesis of OSCC. We can not find clinical availability for diagnosis.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate factors affecting the somatizationof 4th grade elementary school students in South Korea. Methods: The research used cross-sectional data of 2,031 first grade elementary school students that participated in 4th-year Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Data analysis, which included descriptive statistics, t-tests, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression, was performed using SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: Aggression (r=0.60, p<.001) and depression (r=0.69, p<.001) showed significant positive correlation, while affection (r=-0.22, p<.001), reasonable explanation (r=-0.28, p<.001), peer relationship (r=-0.06, p=.001), and teacher relationship (r=-0.20, p<.001) were negatively correlated with somatization of elementary school students. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that depression (${\beta}=0.52$, t=25.52, p<.001), aggression (${\beta}=0.27$, t=13.30, p<.001), reasonable explanation (${\beta}=0.05$, t=2.99, p=.002), and affection (${\beta}=0.04$, t=2.13, p=.031) were significant predictors of somatization. This regression model has an explanatory power of 52.8%. Conclusion: To reduce somatization, it is necessary to develop a therapeutic intervention to change student emotions into a positive coping mechanism and strategy. The results of this study will contribute to the development of programs and practices for healthy school life.

  • GM1 gangliosidosis is a rare autosomal recessively inherited metabolic disease due to deficiency of ${\beta}$-galactosidase caused by mutations in the GLB1 gene. There have been three clinical subgroups in GM1 gangliosidosis, however it is difficult to differentiate because there is considerable overlap between classical phenotypes and clinical and imaging findings among the subgroups. Here, we report a Korean girl with type 2 GM1 gangliosidosis, who showed dysostosis multiplex and progressive neurological deterioration. Developmental regression was first noted at the age of 9 months, and she was diagnosed as GM1 gangliosidosis by ${\beta}$-galactosidase enzyme analysis and GLB1 mutation analysis at the age of 16 months.

  • The main purposes of this thesis are to examine the job satisfaction of dental technicians, to explore the factors which have impacts on the job satisfaction of the dental technicians, and finally to address some suggestions for dental technicians in order to improve their job satisfaction. This study is based on the survey data which were conducted among dental technicians engaged in the dental technical places in Daegu area from March 1, 2003, to March 31, 2003. Three hundreds and twenty questionnaires were distributed and 304 of them were collected. Among them 293 questionnaires were eventually used for the statistical analysis. Descriptive and regression analysis were introduced, and in which 12 independent variables and one dependent variable were included. The results of this study are as follows: Approximately 50 percent of the dental technicians in Daegu expressed that they were satisfied with their job, while about 20 percent of them were not satisfied with their job. According to the multiple regression analysis, work environment($\beta$,=0.216), human relationship($\beta$,=0.405), and self-esteem($\beta$,=0.156) have statistically significant positive effects on job satisfaction. On the other hand, conflicts caused in the process of carrying out their jobs have statistically a significant negative effect($\beta$,=-0.166) on job satisfaction. Among 12 independent variables, human relationship has the strongest effect($\beta$,=0.405) on job-satisfaction and 12 independent variables explains approximately 35 percent of variance in the job-satisfaction of dental technicians in Daegu. In conclusion, with regard to the improvement for the job-satisfaction of dental technicians, the association of dental technicians' active concern and long-term plans are necessary. Finally, some suggestions for the increase of the level of job satisfaction of dental technicians are introduced and discussed.

  • Relationships between TSP and PM10 concentrations were evaluated using their respective data sets collected from Taegu and Kyeungsan areas during the period of December 1993 to November 1994. The collection of data was made using the gravimetric and $\beta$-ray absorption ($\beta$-MPM) methods for 7 days of every month from three urban sites in Taegu and one suburban site in Kyeungsan. Correlation coefficients between TSP and PM10 concentrations for these four sampling sites were found in the range of 0.85 $\sim$ 0.96. Correlation analysis was also conducted for $\beta$-PM concentration data that were measured only from the residential and commercial sites. The correlation coefficients between TSP and $\beta$-PM concentrations were 0.9 in the residential site and 0.8 in the commercial site. By contrast, the correlation coefficients between PM10 $\beta$-PM concentrations were almost identical for both the residential and commercial sites with a value of 0.88. The mean ratio for PM10 to TSP concentrations for all sites was appeared to be 0.68. The analysis of seasonal trends in PM10/TSP ratios showed that the contribution of PM10 to TSP concentrations was more significant during winter (0.70 $\sim$ 0.75) than during summer (0.61 $\sim$ 0.68). The results of this study may provide empirical informations on the compatability of aerosol data measured by different sampling methods.

  • In the mandatory application of the CPTED, only negative parts of urban parks and vegetation were reflected. Therefore, this study tries to present the positive effects of urban parks and vegetation. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effects of urban parks and vegetation on crime occurrence and to suggest the planning implications of this to CPTED based on theory related to crime, environmental psychology, and crime occurrence analysis. This study used the crime occurrence data of Seoul, NDVI, population, distance from urban park, floating population, and the like. This study collected data from the Statistics Korea, the local government, and Landsat 8 satellite images provided by the USGS and created data of environmental variables and social variables by district using ArcGIS and statistical program. Literature analysis, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and geographically weighted regression were used to determine the relationship between crime occurrence and environmental variables, and to discuss its implication. It was found that crime occurrence has a relationship with the total population (${\beta}=.663$), the number of amusement facilities (${\beta}=.447$) and the area of a police station jurisdiction (${\beta}=.395$). This confirms that a crime rate is low when the floating population is large (${\beta}=-.241$) and vegetation vitality is high (NDVI, ${\beta}=-.281$). Vegetation vitality (NDVI) is effective in lowering violence through psychological stabilization, strengthening territoriality and improving regional image. The implications for the allocation of urban park and vegetation, program and management plan of urban park and vegetation to reduce crime occurrence have therefore been presented.
