A Study on Correlation among Empowerment, Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention of Food Service Industry Employees (외식업체 종사자들의 임파워먼트가 직무만족과 이직의도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This research was conducted targeting 269 employees working in the hotel and food service industry in the Busan area to provide human resources policy implications for food service companies by understanding the causal relationship between the empowerment of foodservice industry employees and job satisfaction and turnover intent. To achieve the research purpose, this research identified the demographic characteristics through a frequency analysis, obtained reliability and validity through a factor and reliability analysis, attaining a meaningful result in the significance level of p<.01 in all factors by conducting a correlation analysis to understand the overall relationship between the variables. As a result of the multiple regression analysis to verify a hypothesis, the explanatory adequacy of the regression model for the effect of self-determination and meaning, the sub-factors of empowerment, on job satisfaction was 34.6%, and the self-determination and meaning was respectively analyzed as (${\beta}$=.125, p<.05) and (${\beta}$=.511, p<.001), thus, the hypothesis that the empowerment of employees in the food service industry has a positive (+) effect was selected. In addition, the multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effect that empowerment (self-determination, meaning) has on job turnover intent, and as a result, the explanatory adequacy of the regression model was 11.2%, the self-determination was ${\beta}$=-.024, showing that it was not analyzed as a statistically meaningful result, and the meaning was analyzed as(${\beta}$=-320,p<.001). Thus, the hypothesis that the empowerment of employees in the food service industry has a negative (-) effect on job turnover intent was partially selected. In the regression analysis result of the effect of job satisfaction on turnover intent, the explanatory adequacy of the entire regression model appearing in the entire analysis was 25.3%, and the job satisfaction was analyzed as (${\beta}$=-.503,p<.001). Thus, the hypothesis that job satisfaction has a negative (-) effect on job turnover intent was selected.

Effects of Activity of Daily Living and Depression on Quality of Life among Elderly Women in Rural Areas (농촌 여성 노인의 일상생활수행능력과 우울이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine factors affecting quality of life among community-dwelling elderly women who live in rural areas. Methods: The design of this research was cross-sectional descriptive study. The participants were 92 community-dwelling women aged 65 or older. Data were collected from November 1 to 15, 2013. ADL (Kart's Index), GDS-SF (Geriatric Depression Scale Short Form) and GQOL (Geriatric Quality of Life Scale) were used to measure variables. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman's coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The participants' mean age was 77.5, and 85.9% had elementary school graduation or less education, and for 64.1%, their economic status was low. Spearman's rho coefficient analysis found that QOL was significantly associated with depression (r=-.72, p<.001), perceived health (r=.58, p<.001), regular exercise (r=.47, p<.001), education level (r=.29, p=.005), and ADL (r=-.21, p=.043). Multiple regression analysis showed that 65.9% of their QOL was explained by depression (${\beta}=-.72$), perceived health (${\beta}=.24$), ADL (${\beta}=-.16$), exercise (${\beta}=.22$) and number of diseases (${\beta}=.19$). Conclusion: These results indicate that older women who live rural areas need support for ADL, and prevention of depression to improve their quality of life.

Convergence Study on Stress, Stress of Clinical Practice, Coping, and Psychological well-being in Nursing Students. (간호대학생의 스트레스, 임상실습 스트레스, 대처, 심리적 안녕감에 관한 융합 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress, clinical practice, coping with the stress, and the degree of psychological well-being of nursing student. A descriptive research study was conducted to confirm successful university life of nursing college students and how to continue their nursing life. The data were collected from questionnaires filled out by 242 nursing students who experienced clinical practice. Data collection was performed from October to November, 2015. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 program using ANOVA, t-test, pearson correlation coeffient and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the psychological well-being increased as the problem faced, the problem was solved directly, and the less stress was applied. Results of the regression analysis showed problem solving coping(${\beta}=.446$), avoidance coping (${\beta}=-.301$), and stress(${\beta}=-.281$), it were explained 51.0%. Therefore, nursing college students should be able to cultivate psychological well-being through a strategy of managing stress to actively ask for solutions to problems through self or social support system.

The Moderating Effects of Emotional Intelligence in the Relations between Transformational Leadership and Organizational Commitment (조직 내 상사의 변혁적 리더십과 부하직원의 조직몰입 간의 관계에서 감성적 지능의 조절효과 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the moderating effects of emotional intelligence in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment. To achieve the this research purpose, theoretical and empirical studies related to transformational leadership, organizational commitment, and emotional intelligence were carried out simultaneously. The established hypotheses related to transformational leadership, organizational commitment, and emotional intelligence were verified by the hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS. The result of this research are as followers : First, the hierarchical regression analysis revealed that moderation term was significant(${\beta}$=0.146, p<.01). The interaction term for charisma and emotional intelligence had a significant and positive relationship with organizational commitment. Second, the hierarchical regression analysis revealed that moderation term was insignificant(${\beta}$=2.295, p<.05) The interaction term for inspirational motivation and emotional intelligence had a significant and positive relationship with organizational commitment. Third, the hierarchical regression analysis revealed that moderation term was significant(${\beta}$=0.200, p<.001). The interaction term for intellectual stimulation and emotional intelligence had a significant and positive relationship with organizational commitment. Fourth, the hierarchical regression analysis revealed that moderation term was significant(${\beta}$=2.213, p<.01).

Gender Differences in Bone Mineral Density-Related Factors among Adults: Based on the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2010-2011 (성인의 골밀도 관련요인에 대한 성별차이: 국민건강영양조사 자료[2010-2011년] 활용)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the factors related to the bone mineral density (BMD) in male and female adults aged 50 years or older. The factors included were socio-demographics, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, blood lipids, and health habits. Methods: As a secondary data analysis, this study used raw data from the 5th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and selected 2,295 adults aged over 50 years who participated in the survey and had BMD values. The T-score of the femoral neck was evaluated for BMD. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA and multiple regression. Results: The factors influencing the BMD in men were age (${\beta}=-.029$, p<.001), BMI (${\beta}=.100$, p<.001), triglyceride (${\beta}=-.001$, p=.001), and calcium (${\beta}=.001$, p=.003), and the suggested regression equation explained 25.6% of the variance in BMD (F=16.32, p<.001). The factors related to BMD in women were age (${\beta}=-.060$, p<.001), BMI (${\beta}=.091$, p<.001), total cholesterol (${\beta}=-.002$, p=.028), HDL cholesterol (${\beta}=.009$, p=.001), and calcium (${\beta}=.001$, p=.004), and the suggested regression equation explained 47.0% of the variance in BMD (F=61.72, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, the modifiable factors, such as BMI, blood cholesterol, and calcium, should be targeted to improve the BMD in both men and women.

Factors Affecting Nursing Professionalism (간호 전문직관에 미치는 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the level of nursing professionalism and the factors affecting it, In addition, it can serve as a fundamental resource for development of appropriate strategies for nursing professionalism. Method: This study was performed on 370 nurses working at two university hospitals located in Seoul. Data was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS Win 14.0. Result: The estimated regression model of nursing professionalism was statistically significant (F=199.89, p=.000). Major factors influencing nursing professionalism were observed as ability of job performance (${\beta}=.811$), job satisfaction (${\beta}=.140$), organizational commitment (${\beta}=.086$), and turnover intention (${\beta}=.084$). These four factors explained 67.9% of nursing professionalism. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, further research is needed to investigate other factors affecting nursing professionalism.

A study on the prediction of the generation of domestic sewage by improvement of water demand estimation (생활용수 수요추정방법 개선에 의한 하수발생량 예측에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to improve water demand estimation and analize correlation between generation of domestic sewage and domestic water use. To improve the prediction of water demand estimation, new water demand equation was developed. The results is as follows. $InQ_t = {\beta}_0+{\beta}_1InP_t+{\beta}_2InY_t+{\beta}_3InH_t+{varepsilon}_t$By using the statistical analysis of the "generation of domestic sewage" and "domestic water use", the regression equation between them is formed. The result is as follows. Generation of domestic sewage : 0.8487 $\times$ Domestic water use + 684.57 ($R^2$= 0.972)>$R^2$= 0.972)

The Influence of Gender Role Conflicts, Professional Nursing Values and Career Preparation Behaviors of Male Nursing Students (남자 간호대학생의 성역할 갈등, 간호전문직관이 진로준비행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of gender role conflicts, professional nursing value on career preparation behaviors of male nursing university student. Data were collected from 127 male nursing university student in grade 2-4 by using structured questionnaires from July 1 to November 30, 2018. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression by using SPSS Win 24.0 program. Multiple regression analysis showed that the predictors of career preparation behaviors were professional nursing values(${\beta}=0.28$, p=.001), satisfaction with major (${\beta}=0.23$, p=.006), club(${\beta}=.19$, p=.020) and the regression equation explained 20.8% of career preparation behaviors. Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to provide career educational programs considering according to the academic year of male nursing students and to develop educational programs to improve the nursing professionalism of male nursing students.

Depression, Stress Coping Behavior, Social Support, and Self-esteem of Middle School Students in Gangwon Do (강원도 일 지역 중학생의 우울과 스트레스 대처행동, 사회적 지지, 자존감의 관계)

  • Objectives: The main purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing depression of middle school students in relation to coping behavior, social support, and self-esteem. Methods: The questionnaire survey was carried out on a convenience sample of 442 middle school students. The data analysis procedure included frequency, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using depression as the dependent variable. Results: The prevalence of depression was 16.7%. Multiple regression revealed that the factors such as "negative" coping(${\beta}$=.29, p<.001), friend support(${\beta}$=-.23, p<.001), "social support pursuing" coping(${\beta}$=-.22, p<.001), school record(${\beta}$=.15, p<.001), self-esteem(${\beta}$=-.13, p<.01), family support(${\beta}$=-.13, p<.01), "agressive" coping(${\beta}$=.11, p<.01) turned out to be significant affecting factors. Forty six percent of varience in depression was explained by these factors. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that to prevent the occurrence of depression, psychosocial aspects including emotional support should be considered when developing mental health education program for middle school students.

Factors Influencing Suicidal ideation among Korean University Students

  • Korea has the highest suicide rate among the OECD countries, and the suicide rate is highest among young adults in their 20s, most of whom are university students. Therefore, suicide among Korean university students is a public health issue that is of interest to us. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the suicidal ideation of university students in Korea, and to use them as a basis to establish effective intervention for university suicide prevention through it. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study using convenience sampling method. The participants were 344 university students at universities in S and G cities. Data were collected with a structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression analysis using with the SPSS/Win 23.0 program. There was a significant correlation between depression (r=.45, p<.001), drinking alcohol (r=.14, p=.008), social support (r=-.26, p<.001), quality of life (r=-.46, p<.001), and suicidal ideation. In the first step of hierarchical regression analysis, satisfaction of school life (${\beta}=.198$, p<.001) was the significant factor influencing the suicidal ideation. Explanatory power was 25.2%. In the second step of the hierarchical regression analysis, absence of parents (${\beta}=-.095$, p=.044), depression (${\beta}=.247$, p<.001), quality of life (${\beta}=-.280$, p<.001), and explanatory power were increased to 42.0%. The results of the study indicate the need to actively identify the group of university students in their 20s with high risk of suicide through continuous evaluation of depression, and to improve the quality of life as a method of preventing suicide. In addition, the effect of absence of parents on the suicidal ideation among Korean university students suggests that parental support may play an important role in suicide prevention.
